DEEP COVE COTTAGE

Only 1 mile from the S. Blue Hill Boat Launch, Deep Water Cottage is but a short boat ride away to absolute peace and tranquility. This delightful Salt Box styled cottage is one of the few private homes resting on Long Island, of which the remaining 95% of the island is part of Acadia National Park. Situated between both Blue Hill Village and Mount Desert Island, this 4 1/2 mile long, 2 mile wide island is a dream location. Enjoying panoramic westerly and south-westerly views over the impressive sailing lanes of Blue Hill Bay, with Blue Hill Mountain in the distance, the views are unsurpassed. A large, deep water pier and mooring awaits your own boat. Or, should you need transport, such is offered for drop off and pick up (including all your supplies) and one midway round trip. Any extra trips are negotiable. There is 24 hour Emergency service available too. Three cozy three bedroom saltbox style cottage has an open floor plan to allow much light and open views of the water. There is a full bath w/shower on the 1st floor and a half bath on the second floor. A large deck overlooks the bay, and is a great place to take in the many sailing races coming out of Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club. Long Island had a rich history in the early heydays of the area, when lack of roads made island living more advantageous. Earlier residents were hearty and independent souls who farmed and raised their own livestock including sheep, from which they knit their own clothing from home spun wool. At one point, more than 6000 sheep inhabited the island. Later sawmills provided quality lumber to the growing region which boomed with the advent of the shipbuilding industry. Stone foundations and old cemeteries are nearly all that remains of its history, as the eventual development of roads made mainland living more desired. Today the island is enjoyed by the few private homes that are fortunate to make this home, or the visitors who come to explore its scenic splendor.
