The Littlehouse is located less than 10 minutes off of Highway One, and is accessible by a good road in all seasons. It is situated in a redwood forest in a canyon along a tumbling stream. Pleasantly isolated, it enjoys sunny days and cool nights. Its amenities, delightful furnishings, full kitchen, gas fireplace, luxurious bed and bath, generous closet area, private deck, are appropriate for either short or long term visits. Coastal and forest hiking trails and scenic beaches are nearby. Carmel with its delightful shops and many restaurants is a short drive away as is the Big Sur Village, Nepenthe and Pfeiffer Beach . Simply a delight.
Marketing these days is too much with us. Flowery modifiers, lyrically poetic descriptions, vivid adjectives wash over us all day, everyday. I can't take it. Just know that the LittleHouse is a special lodging in a beautiful place.
We can't say enough good things about the Little House. Maureen and Gerry are great people, and the care and craftsmanship that they have put into the LittleHouse shows. There's a positive flow throughout the entire property, and we couldn't have asked for a better place for some R&R.
Being as this is the first time we booked with HomeAway, we really lucked out in finding this place. We had our mini honeymoon here, and wish we could have stayed longer. After the last year planning a wedding, this was the perfect place to unwind. Upon arrival, there were fresh flowers, and a bottle of champagne to celebrate waiting for us.
It has plenty of modern amenities, coming with a fully equipped kitchen, with all cooking necessities (cooking spray, cooking oils, pots, pans, knives, etc.) and they provide light groceries (eggs, fruit, bread, milk, and plenty of bottled water). They have a ton of great books, and up-to-date DVD's, wi-fi, and a landline phone provided for you, since there is no cellular service.
The use and placement of the windows and skylights not only offer great natural lighting, but gives an open feel to the home, where you can see the redwoods surrounding you. There's a stream that is parallel to the road, and just gives you that Zen feeling. The space is beautifully and efficiently designed and laid out, so you feel as if you have a lot of space.
It's also close to Carmel/Monterey and Big Sur. We're already planning on booking every year for our wedding anniversary, so long as they are still available.
Again, loved every single second of our stay, and wish we could have extended it. Looking to book as soon as January 2015, and again in October 2015.
Very secluded, private and quiet. Huge redwood forest all around LittleHouse, the air is full of oxygen and the scents of the woods. A trickling stream below. You'll sleep like a baby. Close to the coastal attractions yet just twenty five minutes from the conveniences of Carmel/Monterey. Well designed, well thought-out cabin and accommodations. The owners are great. This has been a wonderful experience.
My stay was perfect! The house is clean and beautiful with lots of windows and skylights to view the redwoods from. There was coffee, tea, fruit, eggs and bread. The heaters worked wonderfully. They have a fantastic selection of dvd's and lots of brand new titles! Maureen and Peter were very welcoming. I would recommend this house to anyone to enjoy a calm, cozy retreat in the redwoods!
We absolutely loved every second spent at The Littlehouse, I do not even know where to start this review. This place was a perfect getaway for a much needed relaxing yet exhilarating vacation. It was the perfect base camp for our amazing Big Sur adventure. Very romantic and secluded this hidden gem in the redwoods has everything needed for a wonderful and peaceful escape from reality. We were delighted upon arrival to see how impeccably clean and well-kept The Littlehouse was. The full kitchen has everything you could possibly need for preparing a home cooked meal. They have a great selection of DVDs both new and classics. There is no cell phone reception at The Littlehouse (or in most of the Big Sur area) but The Littlehouse has its own land line phone with unlimited calls both incoming and outgoing and free wireless internet. The bed is exceptionally comfortable and the bedding is clean and cozy. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the rippling nearby stream was so relaxing. The location is great about a ten minute drive off Hwy 1 on a rustic but well-kept road. Once you are on Hwy 1 you are only about 15 miles from Carmel and another five miles to Monterey. It is also a short drive from many other spectacular Big Sur destinations including Julia Pfeiffer, Point Lobos, Garrapata State Beach, Bixby Bridge, Nepenthe, and Deetjen's Restaurant. We stayed 5 days in May at The Littlehouse and were heartbroken when we had to leave. The owners were wonderful and even though they live on the property we only saw them when we checked in and then again when we checked out. It was nice to know that they were only a phone call away if we needed anything. They designed and built this place with such tremendous attention to detail and a great use of space. They also stocked the place with fresh eggs, bread, cheese, fruit preserves, milk and a full assortment of condiments for making a delicious first morning breakfast. There was also plenty of bottled water so no need to bring your own. One tip I have for future visitors is to pack lightly because there are quite a few stairs to get up to the little house. Really all you need is your clothes and some food everything else is provided for you. (We really over packed)
We really fell in love with The Littlehouse in the Redwoods and hope to make it back again someday. I would recommend this sublime little piece of heaven to anyone looking to have a unique, relaxing, romantic, and unforgettable Big Sur experience.
We recently had a fabulous stay at the little but amazingly comfortable house deep in the canyon. We were astounded at Jerry's craftsmanship in contructing the entire house; the use of space was also perfect. Everything was high end and worked well -- shower, appliances, wonderfully comfortable bed. Though in a redwood canyon you are high in trees and have a great perch to survey the forest. Jerry is an excellent host always ready to assist, answer questions and recommend favourites (take up his suggestion for lunch at Ventana!). Only caution is that there is a long set of steps up to the house so it might be problematic for the less mobile. Overall, couldn't be a better place to relax and savour the Big Sur atmosphere.
Our stay at the Littlehouse in the Redwoods went above and beyond our expectations. Nestled away deep in the redwoods, Littlehouse is a gem amongst the spectacular nature atmosphere. The cabin is cozy, accommodating in every aspect with attention given to every detail. We were welcomed with a fridge stocked with bottled water, fresh eggs, jam and bread. The coffee and cream provided for the perfect start to our day. The Littlehouse location was perfect. Staying right in between Carmel and Big Sur was just what we needed. We felt one with nature. Honestly t I could go on and on :) We will definitely be staying here again and again. Enjoy!
