We are located on Sunset Point, Saint Joseph Island. 1 hour east of the city of Sault Ste Marie, which is home to the Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, International Airport and International Bridge which joins Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, with Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, USA.

The cottage has been designed to cater for the larger family in mind and can accommodate 6 people, with a main floor shower room and extra wide access doors.

Waterfront property, designed over 3 floors with a full basement for storage.

From the deck area, you can enjoy the sunshine and wildlife in the daytime and if you're really lucky you might even get to see the beautiful white deer.

While sipping your favorite drink in the evening, you can admire one of our beautiful sunsets, after all, it isn't called Sunset Point for nothing!

Alternatively, on cooler days or nights, why not place a log on our beautiful wood burning fireplace and enjoy the breathtaking views.

Wherever you decide to sit, we’re sure you’ll enjoy the quiet surroundings and have a very relaxing time and will want to come back year after year!

This fully furnished cottage offers just about everything you need for an enjoyable stay.

The cottage interior is clean and bright with the spacious open concept kitchen/dining/living area, making it a very sociable environment.

There are lots of windows to provide plenty of sunlight, fresh air and breathtaking views.

The Cottage is 10 minutes away from Richard's Landing, where you will find:

• liquor / beer store

• great hardware store (hunting and fishing supplies at Kentvale Stores)

• restaurants

• Ice cream shop (beautiful local made ice cream)

• art & gift shops

The cottage is non-smoking and please note: there are steps to the front and rear of the property. For pets, please enquire.

Don’t forget that September and October are great months to stay at the cottage. The fall tree colors are fantastic. A super opportunity for spectacular views and photographs to take.

In the winter, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and ice fishing is the thing to do on St. Joseph Island. There are hundreds of kilometers of groomed trails that attract thousands of snowmobilers every season.

In the spring, hundreds of thousands of maple trees on St. Joseph Island begin to produce sap, which is tapped, collected and boiled down to produce a delicious, world class maple syrup.

Gilbertsons maple syrup pancake kitchen is a must, during maply syrup season, it's delicious.

Islanders and visitors take advantage of this spring harvest by attending one of the many pancake breakfasts and other events that all revolve around maple syrup.

This season peaks in late March / early April.

Travelling from Europe:-

We recommend flying into Toronto's Lester Pearson Airport from

where you can either hire a car or catch a flight to Sault St Marie.

If you choose to drive, we would recommend you plan to stop overnight along your journey because it can take approximately 8-9 hours to drive north through Ontario. This is a very beautiful drive, where you might even see the odd moose or bear, but

it is tiring, especially after a long flight, so please be sensible if you choose to drive.

A good stop off after your flight, is Penetanguishene, Midland, where you will find a fairly good choice of accommodation and if you fancy a bit of fishing in Georgian Bay, we can recommend the services of a great local fisherman for you!

We would strongly recommend that you book your car hire well in advance and you can do this through most major car rental / car hire companies in your home country or you could do

this direct with the local Canadian car rental companies. If you require details of any, please ask.

An alternative route, would be to take in Niagra Falls and the beautiful Niagra On The Lake, then drive through Michigan, USA, right up to the International Bridge at Sault Ste Marie.

Just make sure that you check out what paperwork and U S Dollars you will require to pass through the U.S. Border Control!!

Finally...

We are only 1.5hrs drive away from the Searchmont Ski Resort, so why not book a winter visit and enjoy the drive up to Searchmont, through some of the most spectacular scenery.

We purchased the plot of land because of it's beautiful waterfront location and after saving up for a number of years we had the cottage built on it by a very trusted local builder.

This is a special location for us to visit our relatives in the area and for us all to get together with our children from time to time.

The views over the water are what this place is all about, you just sit back and watch the sunset go down and enjoy all of the wildlife who pass by. It's so relaxing and the ideal location to completely unwind and chill out.

The cottage is clean and modern. Everything that you would need/want for a week's vacation is there. The lot is huge and very private. The sunsets were spectacular from the large deck. We had a terrific time and look forward to returning next summer!

Well-equipped and Comfortable!

This open-concept cottage was well-equipped and quite comfortable. I enjoyed having the open windows toward the water and western skies. The second bathroom was appreciated too. Days were filled with natural life, such as, deers (with their babies), variety of birds, raccoons, porcupines, and more deers! Viewing ships in the channel from all over the world was a treat too. I would definitely suggest this cottage to all my friends and family.

WONDERFUL COTTAGE ON A WONDERFUL ISLAND

We had an absolutely wonderful time at this cottage!

To start, communication with the owner during the booking process was stellar. We have rented HomeAway and VRBO properties many times and I have never had such a positive experience. Easy, explanative, and accommodating. (Thank you, Richard!)

As for the cottage itself, RENT IT! It is away from it all, yet within easy distance to many wonderful things: markets, cafes, swimming beaches, parks, boat launches, ice cream shops, marinas, the list goes on. We particularly enjoyed spending time at Fort St. Joseph which was an easy 15 minute drive from the cabin. We also brought our boat and put in at Sailor’s Encampment which was only about 10 minutes away.

The cottage is just beautiful. It is spacious and appealing. Everything was comfortable and they have all of the necessary kitchen, linen, and toiletry items that you would need. Nothing is forgotten. Let me not forget to mention the wildlife! Every single day we saw deer, herons, cranes, geese, ducks, swans, and an especially sweet squirrel who was having a feast in a nearby pine tree. All which we saw right out the back deck! One other thing I especially liked about the cottage was that it was down a quiet road. There was no traffic heard, no “business” or “white” noise heard anywhere. Just the sounds of nature. We loved it!!! Also, we had two young children with us and this was a great property for them as well. They played with some of the toys there and especially enjoyed roasting marshmallows over the bonfire we had in the fire pit one night.

I also have to mention what a wonderful island St. Joseph Island is. Everyone is so friendly. And everywhere you go is filled with beautiful scenery. It is definitely off the beaten path and that was just the kind of vacation we were looking for. We came over from the States and it was well worth it!

P.S. The sunsets at this place are incredible! And make sure to get some local maple syrup!
