|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
This is your opportunity to experience all the ambience of a fully-modern log cabin with that old-time fairy tale charm, deep in the woods of scenic Lookout Mountain. The view of Shinbone Valley below provides a pastoral glimpse of nature at its most magnificent. The cabin features wood carvings and ironwork by local artisans in every detail and at every turn. The front steps greet our guests with acorn finials on the rail. Through the hand built barn-style front door one can glimpse the ironwork turkey chandelier hanging gracefully from the cathedral ceiling of the living area. Up the cabin stairs with its hand carved acorn newel post is the loft, which boasts a hand built and carved pine queen sized bed with four stately acorn finials. And Daisy the wooden bear cub clutches the cabin's massive center post high above her human guests.
On chilly winter days the cast iron stove and old fashioned quilts give all the comfort you could want. Turn off that central heat and cozy up to the stove. Plenty of starter pine and stove wood provided for your first night's fire!
In spring, the scent of blossoms fills the air. On rainy days, enjoy the woods, anyway, on the huge screen porch. There the patter on the metal roof will lull you to a gentle doze. The old porch glider is the best bed in the cabin.
In summer, huckleberries and blackberries line the path to the lower deck, and new mown hay spills an irresistible scent into the country air on the cattle ranch leading to the cabin.
And in fall, you will feel each morning like you have awakened in the middle of a golden bowl of sunlight.
Get in touch with yourself and your family. This cabin has all the comforts and conveniences of a modern kitchen and bath, laundry facilities and heat and air, but none of the distractions of intrusive modern life.
Craftsmanship and imagination fill the cabin. Books and games line the shelves. We suggest that you leave your city cares at home and inhale all the restorative peace that nature has to offer. Relax, unwind and unplug!
HI, I'm Sara. I am a business owner in Jacksonville, Fl. I grew up in Georgia but have been a Floridian for 45 years. Visiting the mountains is a particular pleasure of mine, and I hope you will enjoy it, too!
Sara Moore purchased this cabin in 2008
I have enjoyed visiting the mountains of my home state, Georgia, since I was a little girl. I was an active Girl Scout, as was my sister and my daughter. All of us were campers at Camp Juliette Low for girls in Cloudland, Ga. When the chance presented itself to buy a cabin in the area, I jumped at it. The log shell was built as a labor of love by one man over the course of ten years. However, when he was unable to complete it, my close family friends, who are local artists, bought it and completed it in 2007, adding their own unique artistic touches.
The view of Shinbone Valley is breathtaking. The original owner created a lower deck 200 feet down the mountain, where the sunrises are unparalleled (they even say that he slept there while he was building the log shell). Seasons each show off their natural best. There is usually at least one light snow in winter, and the cast iron stove is wonderful at keeping the entire cabin snug. In spring, the earliest Amalancher tree blooms in the dooryard. In summer, there is no better snooze than on the old glider on the sleeping porch. This little cabin accomodates any size group, from the couple on their (second) honeymoon, to a family of seven seeking to renew their bond. It's terrific for kids. The area boasts a cattle ranch that is as well maintained as any in Georgia. It is home to several summer camps, the closest being Camp Juliette Low, a Girl Scout camp for girls, and Valley View Ranch, one of the premier equestrian camps for girls in the country. Walking or hiking is always a treat. And fishing and horseback riding are favorite activities of the local folks.
I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our little mini-vacation. Your place is cozy and peaceful which is just what I needed. Thanks for the thoughtful amenities. I especially enjoyed all of the quilts.
This is an adorable cabin. It is very clean, and there are a lot of details which are very charming. The location of being perched on the brow and the view from the porch is very unique and beautiful and unlike any area we have traveled before. For our anniversary weekend, Saturday was very foggy and rainy, and we so enjoyed spending time under a blanket on the screen porch glider with a cup of hot chocolate. We dined at both The Crushed Tomato in Summerville, GA and Moonlight Bistro in Mentone, AL, and enjoyed both of those experiences. Sunday, the weather was more inviting, and we went to Desoto Falls and Cloudland Canyon. Both were spectacular experiences. Cloudland Canyon had hikes for all levels. The owner is very nice, communicative, and prompt if you have questions. We would definitely stay her again...
My wife and I stayed at the Acorn Ledge Lodge for a Valentines weekend. We enjoyed the relaxed ambiance of the cabin and all the amenities that it has to offer. It is a great place to come relax and getaway. We enjoyed a trip to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga via the scenic route through lookout mountain and also had a wonderful meal in Mentone, AL. This was our second stay and we will defiantly be going back again soon!
WOW - this property is exactly as described. We were blessed to spend our 16th Wedding Anniversary at Sara's property. I surprised my husband with this reservation, he was overwhelmed at my choice! He loved it all. We both loved everything. I think my favorite spot in the cabin was the screened in porch with it's wonderful rocking chairs and amazing view of the valley below. I could go on and on about the cabin inside and out, but the description and pictures are exact. Thank you Sara for sharing your cabin with so many. You are blessed to be a blessing over and over! We ate at the very same restaurant we ate at on our honeymoon 16 years ago - The Canyon Grill in Rising Fawn, GA. If you travel to this cabin it is an amazing restaurant. Visit their website for menu offers and any specials. We did mention it was our Anniversary and rec'd a free dessert - our choice. We drove and visited the small, quaint and wonderful towns of Menlo, Summerville, and LaFayette Georgia. We followed information from Sara and found The Crushed Tomato in Summerville, GA! One of the best Brick Oven Handmade Pizza's we have ever had. In fact it was so good - we ate it twice! We want to go back just so we can eat the Pizza again. The Christmas lights on Main Street and Music Timed Christmas Light show in LaFayette is across from the Police Station. It was incredible - perfect for the little ones or those young at heart. Be sure to check out the house and see Santa's Train and Christmas Village. We want to come back just to spend more time in these towns. We drove by Howard Finster's Paradise Garden, but they were closed. We missed out on Mentone just because we ran out of time and there was some rainy days - but hey, we rested and relaxed and that is what we were there for. I look forward to coming back again and again. I will be a repeat Customer Sara!
We had a great time on our trip! The cabin was outstanding in every aspect! We definitely plan on scheduling another trip there in the future. I give it five stars!

I took my 13 year old grandson to cloudland for his fall break. The cabin was a perfect central location for all we wanted to do. We went to “Tigers For Tomorrow”, a wildlife refuge for tigers and lions, wolves and bears, and took the “Guided Education Tour”. I would recommend this for anyone! So awesome! http://www.tigersfortomorrow.org/ We blew glass ornaments @ orbixhotglass.com Such a fun trip. The people there are very sweet and made the experience special for both of us. We went water-fall hunting, both in Desoto Falls and Little River Canyon. (be sure to take your camera). We also visited “Down on the Farm” and went through their corn maze….three hours later we still had not found all of the 6 stations…but lots of fun. We ate @ “The Wildflower Café” where my grandson ordered the best pizza we’ve ever had. This place is like a little “Pixie-land” outside, twinkling lights, colored mosaic benches, and beautiful flowers everywhere. Around the corner, is “St. Joseph's-on-the-Mountain”, a little church w/ the most beautiful stained glass windows.
The town of Mentone has lots of little shops on either side of the street and a “Farmers Mket” on Saturday morning. Just be sure to check the city calendar from October through the winter months. A lot of the stores close thru the week and you never know when or what will be open. http://www.mymentone.com/ You might also want to check to see which time zone you will be in when going places. Cloudland is eastern, but a few miles out, you could be in central, depending on where you are going.
Sara was a pleasure to work with. I have wanted to visit her cabin for a couple of years, and booked early to make sure we could get dates in October, as they go fast. Of course the porch was a special place. We had our daily devotions there…played checkers, cards and Battleship. (It rained our first 2 and ½ days there) Our last night, my grandson and I had a sweet 2 hours on the glider, w/ my arms wrapped around him just talking about all we had done and what we liked best. He said the best part, for him, was just what we were doing, spending time on the glider and talking… Thanks Sara.
My fiance and I decided to take a last-minute weekend getaway, so we found the lodge online and Sara was extremely accommodating with our last-minute booking! The property was clean and beautiful! We had a great weekend spent exploring, hiking, and recharging! All of her recommendations for local food and fare were spot on! Our dogs loved it, as well!
This is horse country! A list of local stables is included in the info on nearby state and national parks. There are plenty of great restaurants and antique shops 20 minutes west in Mentone, AL...Believe it or not, the only winter skiing in AL or GA is in Mentone! Hang gliding in Rising Fawn. Also wonderful caving activities in Valley Head, and underground Ruby Falls in Chattanooga, especially appeals to little folks.
