Our circa 1920 Red Casita has been fully re-modeled for your home-away-from-home comfort. Nestled in the back yard of one of California Heights’ oldest Craftsman houses, the Red Casita is close to freeways and transportation, but part of a beautiful neighborhood with tree-lined streets and historic homes. California Heights was awarded the First and Grand Prizes of Neighborhoods USA's (NUSA) 2012 National Conference, and was featured in Sunset Magazine’s “10 Most Desirable Neighborhoods” write-up in 2004. It is conveniently located between Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Head to the beach for a day in the sun, to Naples Island for a gondola ride, to one of several theme parks, or simply out your front door to enjoy lounging on one of two brick patios. The possibilities are endless.
The Red Casita is a studio apartment which features a queen size bed, twin sleeper sofa, 40” flat screen TV with Verizon Fios, DVD player, WiFi, Ethernet, and access to a brick patio with BBQ. Efficiency kitchen features microwave/convention oven, toaster, electric skillet, coffee maker, refrigerator, and all cooking/dining necessities.
This quaint little cottage is fantastic! We have stayed here twice now, and it will continue to be our first choice whenever we are in town. The cottage sits in the backyard of the owner's home. It's small, but completely accommodating. It is very clean. The bed is comfortable. Nice flat screen TV. There is a small kitchenette with limited cooking utensils. Just outside the door is a small patio with a BBQ grill and a breakfast table for some nice al fresco dining. A perfect place to unwind after having a day of fun.
The location is perfect. Just minutes from the airport, yet nestled in a safe quiet neighborhood. Tons of great restaurants and shops nearby. Nick's on 2nd is usually where we eat our first day in town. Handy's Smokehouse Meats is a hidden gem just down the road. It's a take out joint, with amazing sandwiches (brisket & pulled pork) and to-die-for beef brisket chili. OH MY. They also have baby back ribs that you can bring back and throw on the grill.
Esther is quick to help with any inquiry, and very efficient in communications, especially for last minute bookings. We have recommended the Red Casita to family members, who enjoyed their stay as much as we did. A great bargain. You won't be disappointed.
We went on a last minute weekend trip to Long Beach. When we arrived, we quickly got on vrbo.com to look for a place...ANY place...other than a hotel. We found the Red Casita, and couldn't have been more pleased! It is super close to the airport, yet sits nestled in a beautiful neighborhood.
The casita is a little guest house in the back yard of the owners. We never even saw them until the day we left. We chatted with them, they were very friendly. There is a small kitchenette, comfortable bed, great flat screen TV, and a cool little patio just outside the door with a barbecue grill and a small table with a couple of chairs. A very quaint and intimate setting. Very clean. Owners are right there if you need anything. Tons of great restaurants and eateries close by.
We have already been back to the Red Casita on another weekend trip, as have some of our relatives, on our referral. We will stay here every time if it's available. Very affordable, so much better than staying in a hotel. I highly recommend this location.
Though on a quite small property we had lots of privacy. We were with 3 persons and had lots of space inside the casita. Too bad there were no 3 high seats, but we managed it without too much hassle.
Beds very comfortable and large enough.
Furniture and bathroom of good quality.
No cooking-posibilities inside, but we used the BBQ which was excellent.
Close to shops/restaurants (walking distance) and beach/LA (by car).
Prompt replies via mail
Definitely worth the money.
5 Star, 2 thumbs up:
The title says it all, but allow me to expand. From the initial inquiry stage, the Red Casita staff (Esther) were prompt, understanding and more than accomodating. We were looking for a comfortable stop off in between leases that was private and clean. The Red Casita was all that and more. There was a BBQ for us, a nice breakfast table that had some nice sun, and the living space was more than adequate for what we needed. Also, the place is very close to all shops, fooderies and grocery stores so the convenience factor is a ten.
I would recommend the Red Casita to a long term guest, short term guest, and anything in between. The overall experience was a 10, and my wife and I have had not so many of those in our homeaway expeditions.

The Red Casita is an adorable little cottage in the back yard of an historic home in a safe, quiet Long Beach neighborhood. We couldn't have been more comfortable and content. The owner was kind and helpful, the manager wonderful to work with and the cottage itself was immaculately clean, well-stocked and simply and nicely decorated. I spent time writing and my son and I also visited relatives, went to Disneyland and CA Adventure for a couple of days and enjoyed the beach and other attractions in Long Beach. We went out only once in order to save money, cooking in the little kitchen which has an electric skillet, a microwave, toaster, 1/2-sized refrigerator and coffee maker. It was fun and easy to make our meals. The bed was comfortable and my son slept well in the small pull-out single bed. The cottage is close to several restaurants, coffee shops, Target, etc., but almost anything you'd need is within a few minutes driving distance. We will return!
