The Black Sea coast covers the whole eastern board of Bulgaria. The Black Sea Coast beaches occupy approx. 130km of the 378km coast. The region is an important centre for tourism during the summer, drawing foreign and Bulgarian visitors alike and constituting one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. Internationally known since 1989 as the Red Riviera, since the fall of the iron curtain its nick name has been changed to the Bulgarian Riviera. The country's average air temperature in summer is above 28 degrees, with the average water temperature at 25 degrees. There are more than 240 hours of sunshine in may and September and more than 2300 hours in July and August.
