About The Owner

Local born and raised in Hawaii. Owner of the First Surf Shop in Kona, called ' Pacific Vibrations Surf Shop'. Opened in 1978 when Kona had no traffic lights!, or any major shopping centers. We are located right in the heart of Kailua Kona Town. We can offer our guest a 10% discount of our Surf wear for Surfing, lots of Bikini's and Sunglasses. We have Surfboards, Boogie boards, swim fins and Standups Surf boards. We also are the official retailer for the amazing GoPro underwater Cameras too! Check it out, we have the best selection in Kona. Also involved with the Ironman Triathlon World Championship since 1983. We are the official Water Patrol, making sure the swimmers are safe. October is super intense, our location becomes a training spot for all the runners getting ready for the biggest event in Kona. Its also steps away from the turn around spot for the run portion of the race.

Why The Owner chose Kahaluu

You will love the location for one. Our price $$$ per night is the least expensive home in our neighborhood. We are surrounded only by private vacation rental homes, and not condo's or apartment. So for the most is quiet and peaceful, you can't help but love the feeling of a Hawaiian Home.

What makes this house unique

Location, Location, Location !!!..its why King Kamehameha I and III decided it was their playground and residence.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic retreat in the heart of it all! We had a wonderful time during our recent stay at the Melekai—a perfect fit for our family. Located on Ali’i Drive, Kailua’s main coastal road where all the action is, the house offers a place to get away from it all while still being within walking distance of a fantastic surfing/snorkeling beach and within a few miles of Kailua’s shops and restaurants.

The true gem of this house is the wonderful lanai—with ocean views and outdoor dining—we spent most of our time here playing games, enjoying meals as a family, watching whales breach (!!) just off the shore. Fully fenced in, this lanai was a perfect place to let our two year old play safely.

The house is well-stocked for beach and surf adventures. There was something for everyone: chairs, umbrellas, sand toys, boogie boards, surf boards, ice chests, you name it. It also had all the amenities needed to be comfortable at home: comfortable beds, a great selection of cooking implements, a grill, several baby cribs and toys.

Truly our home away from home!

Nice house, great lanai, wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

Our group of usually 7 adults (friends and family) stayed at Hale Melekai for just over a week and really enjoyed it. Simmy was very responsive in all our communications and when we reported problems with the gas grill at the house, the next day she had a new grill delivered and installed which was greatly appreciated (and used multiple times). The lanai is huge and we ate every dinner out there and spent a lot of time just hanging out on the large number of chairs, couches, and chaises. The wifi was good, the gas stove was a pleasure, and the location near Kahalu’u Bay excellent (a five minute walk to amazing snorkeling). There is a little shoreline access spot virtually across the street from the house and we watched multiple gorgeous sunsets from there. The house has a wrap-around porch that is a great place for drying snorkeling gear and towels. It was an excellent place to stay and helped make our vacation in Kona special and enjoyable!

Memorable Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house. It was comfortable having our own bathrooms but we enjoyed the together time we spent on the lanai. It is huge and we spent most of our house time outside there. We would have breakfast and lunch outside while watching for whales spouting and jumping. The owner made us feel very comfortable and all of the beachware really came in handy. It was so convenient to just walk to the beach and my son was able to surf from there. We all snorkeled and saw tons of fish. Beautiful sunsets. Kitchen was well equipped.

Perfect place for my family's kona vacation

  • 5 of 5

This house has many great features. Our favorite parts were the location, the lanai and the kitchen.

There is great snorkeling and surf lessons just a 4 minute walk away, and the white sand beach is under a mile in the other direction which is a great spot for body surfing, body boarding, beach volleyball and swimming. Downtown kona is a short drive away with a fantastic market on Wednesday and Saturdays. The lanai is huge with a full size dining table that comfortably fit all 7 of my family. There are many seats and a bar with a clear view of the ocean. The lanai has both a covered and not covered section so you can either escape the heat or get some sun depending on your mood. We had a great time in the well equipped kitchen with plenty of room for many hands to help out. Another nice feature is that each room has it's own bathroom.Overall we highly recommend this wonderful property.

Great Place to Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful place for our family vacation. We had large group and the house was great as it had a lot of spots for people to hang out. The lanai was our favorite gathering place to watch the sunset every evening as well as a perfect place to enjoy our Thanksgiving dinner. The house had everything we needed and it was nice to have beach gear like boogie boards and towels. The little kid wading pool was a hit with our kids as well (who knew after spending all day at the beach they would want more water time). Simmy was very accommodating and helped us to find the best activities with each of my inquiries. The location was great as we could walk down to the beach where we saw turtles within a minute after getting into the water. The beach there was great for snorkeling, paddle-boarding and surfing. This truly was a great place to stay!

Kahaluu snorkel Beach, only a 4 minute walk

We are in a Historical Preservation area. Hawaiian High Chiefs and Kings were born in Kahalu'u. They lived here for all its beauty and because it was close one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii, Kahalu'u. There was plenty of fishes and still does. And also Surf in our protected bay. Kahalu'u beach park is 4.2 acre opened in 1953. It has fishponds, bathing ponds, and popular is the shallow, calm water, which teems with tame, colorful reef fish, coral head, and turtles. The Kohala Center sponsors the Reef Teach program, in which volunteers educate visitors about the marine life and water quality in order to minimize damage to the natural resources . There is still standing the ancient Surf Heiau, where they often prayed for waves. Its a very special place, and you will be amazed. We are located on the race courses of the 'Ironman Triathlon World Championship', and the Lavaman races. Our location is key, numerous beach parks are all within 10 miles, including White Sands, Pahoehoe County park, Honokohau Harbor, Old Airport has an Olympic swimming pool. gymnasium, football and soccer fields, a skateboard facility, ball fields, and community center.
