Spectacular Japanese style home with ocean view and pool. Hear the waves break on the lava cliffs just a short walk from the home.
This one-of-a-kind home features two master suites.
Each suite has approximately 600 square ft. and includes sleeping and sitting areas with satellite TV and VCR/DVD.

Inside the home is a private garden with tropical plants and flowers which accent the small waterfall, stream and fish pond.

My wife and I purchased our home in Hawaii in 2000. We are pleased to offer this unique Japanese living experience to you when we are away.
The Owner purchased this house in 2000
We looked for several years for a home on the Big Island that we would enjoy living in. The unique Japanese design, quality of construction, open living areas, ocean view, private and peaceful setting made this home an easy choice for us.
This is where my wife and I go to get away from it all. It is easy to forget the normal pressures of everyday life in this private and peaceful setting-our Sanctuary in Paradise!
We own the lot across the street from our house. The lot was hand cleared to preserve the natural flow of the lava. Our landscapers have planted many native plants. Guests are welcome to take a walk on the 1 acre lot.
Lovely Japanese home. Roof leaks with several puddles throughout. Would recommend with the caveat of improved maintenance.
We where very pleased with our stay, the roof was being replaced (hurricane damage) and we had a little water problem which was fixed immediately. We would be back because overall it was a wonderful stay and Rachel was the best.Thank you Rachel,we will recommend your home to all our friends, you'll hear from us on our next visit to the Big Island. Mahalo.
Beautiful home and layout.I would most definitely stay there again.i love the Coqui frogs at night although I never did find any. With the sliding doors open in the early evening the breeze is better than an air conditioner.
i had the pleasure of staying at this residence in may of 2014 and it was really nice. some of the reviews mentioned barking dogs and that was a concern as thats something i was trying to get away from here at home. the complaints were not warranted in my opinion. the sounds of the island were pleasant, not silent, but not annoying at all. the property is located in a quiet neighborhood 2 blocks from the water, and a good distance from any traffic. the pool, the bicycles, the snorkle gear... all very nice to have at our disposal. i found the japanese style doors and open air feeling of the place to be interesting. it was warm, but comfortable. the guestbook contains many suggestions for activities and food, all we tried were fantastic. standouts were pretty much everything; the sights of exploring the island, the friendly nature of all the people we met and the relaxing laid-back attitude of it all made for a very nice get-away.
Two couples--seniors all--spent ten days at this lovely home. We were in Hilo to experience Merrie Monarch festivities, and this rental gave us peace and quiet to recover from the hullabaloo of craft fairs and hula excitement. Our first drive to the house made us wonder where we were headed...but when we arrived, we found a wonderful, spacious house sitting amid hibiscus blossoms, coconut palms, ohia trees, wild orchids and old lava flows. Within a couple of days we became accustomed to the 20 minute ride to Hilo; it felt like we were just a hop, skip and jump away!
While the kitchen may seem dated, it was clean and amazingly well equipped with all sizes of pots, pans and even baking dishes and utensils...not to mention lots of dinnerware, silverware, glassware, and coffee mugs. We were able to pluck kalamansi in the backyard which we found were a perfect replacement for lemons and limes in our nightcaps! The pool was nice, clean and inviting--even though we didn't have a chance to use it.
Be prepared at times for a rooster or two outside your bedroom window for an early morning wake up call--totally charming! You feel off the beaten path--even though you really aren't. Many thanks to Rachel for prompt replies to questions and inquiries. She is great to work with!
All in all, we would recommend this house highly to anyone looking for a peaceful location that offers lots of room for everyone to enjoy time together and apart as well.
An excellent and wonderful retreat at the end of day of adventures. A
very unique house with lots of space and privacy...I don't think the pictures do it full justice, and for the price, you can't ask for anything more. A short drive away from population, yet close to many choices of things to do....Thermal ponds, tidal pools, awesome markets and the Volcano. I would highly recommend the Wednesday evening market in Kalapana. Thank you to the owners who have been great to deal with and offer up ways help and assistance with contact numbers etc. We will be back for sure.
