About Owner/Manager

I've lived in the Custer area for 10 years and am a South Dakota native. After living out of state for 18 years, I returned to South Dakota for a more peaceful life.

Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2011
Why Owner/Manager chose Custer

I vacationed in the Custer area as a child, and returned to it because I've found the Custer area to be the perfect blend of rustic country living, beautiful scenery and friendly people. The town of Custer has all the shopping, restaurants and entertainment that anyone could possibly need without the frenzy of fast food, Walmarts and traffic that frazzle city folks lives.

Spacious, secluded home in a beautiful location

We had a family gathering in this lovely home and all 12 of us were so pleased. The home is beautiful without being fussy, and the three levels provided plenty of space. The home is set in a great location; private and less than 2 miles from Wind Cave. It is close to Custer as well. We also visited Jewel Cave, Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, and Lead. We saw bighorn sheep, elk, bison, pronghorn, prairie dogs, burros, and loads of deer. The driveway was steep, but it wasn't an issue for us. Jody is accommodating and clear in her instructions. Thank you for providing such a pleasant place for our family to gather and just enjoy the area and each other!

Wonderful experience!

We held our family Thanksgiving celebration at this home and could not have asked for a better experience! The home was warm and comfortable and absolutely gorgeous. We can't say enough about how perfect it was. The location was great, the views were beautiful and the wildlife was amazing.
We had the full experience of a log cabin without losing the comforts of home. The owner has Internet service and satellite TV available which was mandatory with our family. The home was fully stocked with everything we needed to celebrate our holiday together.
Our expectations based on the listing were surpassed. The owner had great instructions on how everything worked and anticipated what things we may have questions on. We would recommend this property to others! The location is close to all sites in the area. We visited Rapid City, Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Hill City (shopping and wineries) and Custer State Park (wildlife).
At the cabin, saw deer, elk and wild turkeys.

Great location, Excellent accomodations

This is a perfect cabin for a larger sized group looking to spend time in the southern black hills. Excellent access to Custer State Park, Wind Cave, Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore, etc. The home is beautiful and just off a main highway north and south. Wildlife abundant around the cabin, great seclusion, and roomy for our large group. Great place to unwind after long days of sightseeing, hiking, and touring. Important that they had wireless and DirectTv to afford a few comforts of home as well. Thanks to the great staff that was ready with questions before and during our stay!

Weekender

The home is not finished and was still covered with construction dirt and dust. The furnace/AC is extremely noisey and the beds are very uncomfortable. The grill was dirty - the last renters did not clean up and neither did the cleaning crew so we couldn't use it. For the price, it didn't come close to other VRBO locations we have stayed in.
Owner's Response: I feel bad that this group didn't contact me during their stay. I could have had the grill cleaned for them in less than an hour. I do provide a gas grill and propane for guests to grill on the deck and we scrape it clean between guests. The beds are all new premium mattresses. We understand our guests have different preferences, so we have mattresses with three different styles of firmness. I leave it up to the guests to work out within the group, which bed they prefer. The home is new and construction is complete, except the cabinet doors on the wet bar in the lower level family room. It was added just before the season started last spring because I thought it would be a nice feature. It is usable as it is, but when the cabinet doors are added, it will be nicer. The furnace/AC is a brand new heat pump and is very typical of custom homes. The home has been professionally cleaned at least 21 times since construction was complete. Through this late summer and fall we've had a drought, and it has been dry and dusty in the area. The deck furniture and exterior of the logs may get dusty if it gets windy, but it isn't construction dust. I am very sorry this group didn't have a great time on their vacation even though I strive to do the best possible to make everyone's vacation worry free. Feel free to call me at any time with questions.

Great holiday

The cabin was great! We had several families join us for Labor Day, and each couple (4) had a room for themselves. In fact the bedrooms on the top floor and the master each had a balcony. We heard elk bugling and coytes howling at night off the deck, while the kids (7) played downstairs in the family room and camped out down there at night.
The cabin is located near Hot Springs, and about 30-45 min from all the major attractions around Rushmore. It was nice to come back to a secluded cabin in the woods after all the tourist activities of the day. It was very peaceful and relaxing.
There were plenty of TV's with Direct TV for those who wanted to watch football and or movies, and those who had wireless devices were able to stay connected (if they wanted). AT&T service was great, but Verizon was not working at all.
What a great place to spend time with our family and friends.
