Photos and Description of the Santa Fe vacation cottage rental
casita (studio) , 1 bathroom, queen bed sleeps two people.

This 'Casita' is self-contained inside a garden wall, with outdoor table and grill under a shade canopy. You can relax in a large customized bathtub/shower and there is plenty of storage space in the bathroom with a chest of drawers and large closet. There is a complete kitchen and wireless/ethernet is included as well as apullout television with full direct tv package. Firewood is provided during winter months for cozy fires in the kiva fireplace. Through the privacy gate is the Plaza Verde of the compound with a small solar, salt swimming pool (seasonal) and chaises on a deck. It has a large outdoor dining area and lawn under shade trees where the other tenants meet for wine and tapas, sometimes a potluck dinner and convivial relationships. For those interested, it is a permaculture design with a shared orchard and vegetable garden open to exploration. The caretaker lives in the garden house on site and is available for consulting. The reserved parking area is just off Gonzales Road next to a private entrance and flagstone stairway to the Casita. It's a very safe property in the historic Eastside, under many large shade trees and beautiful gardens. Down the little dirt lane is access to the arroyos and foothill trails and the SF River.

The Audobon Society is at the end of the valley on the historic Randall Davie's Estate with lovely hikes into the mountains. The downtown Plaza is just a 1 mile walk under shade trees. We are walking distance to the famous Canyon Road art galleries, gourmet restaurants, and bars, as well.

About Mela

Homeowners are Doug and Mela. Two other families live on the 3.5 acre compound as well as the caretaker. All of us have common interests in permaculture, organic gardening and sustainability.

What makes this cottage unique

Lower end of property has large communal garden where everyone is welcome to stroll , enjoy the harvest and connect with nature. There are several fruit trees and local veggies. There is a greenhouse and extended hoop house for growing. Visitors are welcome.

We are just a few blocks from Canyon Road and the many galleries, restaurants and bars. We are a short walk from the arroyos and Dale Ball Trails that traverse the foothills, as well as the Santa Fe River and the large shade trees. Easy biking to the Plaza just 1 mile away. Drive up Gonzales Road to the Ski Basin Road where there are many beautiful stops and hiking trails to running creeks and waterfalls.

  • The adobe bed frame is known for deep sleep in a one room guesthouse, delineated by an adobe wall. The mattress is an organic cotton mattress with organic cotton sheets and beautiful duvet, coverlet and pillows. It has a cabinet with flat-screen TV and stereo. The large windows next to the bed have carved shutters inside for extra privacy. There is an abundance of light from many exterior windows with two sets of curtains for privacy and sleeping. At the end of the bed is a kiva fireplace and views of the private garden enclosed behind a curved adobe wall. There is a sitting area and desk, dining table for four, and a compact kitchen.

My husband and I stayed her for our 2nd anniversary- and it really exceeded our expectations! This was the first time we stayed anywhere through Home Away, and it was completely worth it. That was the week of the Albequerque Balloon Festival, so all the hotels from Albequerque to Santa Fe were either booked or very expensive. This casita was the perfect place for us! I communicated with Johanna, and she was very responsive and made the process go very smooth. There were plenty of amenties left for us: wine, organic coffee, dishes, some condiments, and toiletries. The tub in the bathroom is AMAZING for an evening bath. Johanna was also very helpful when it came to nearby restaurants, grocery stores, etc. You are close enough to the square to walk/bike/short drive, but you are far enough away to enjoy the quiet- and also very close to the gorgeous spa Ten Thousand Waves, and the beautiful mountains. Next time we might come in the summer so we can enjoy the pool and the large outdoor patio with a grill! The place is small- but much larger than a hotel room, and the perfect size for 2 people. The pictures don't do it justice- it is beautiful, charming, and cozy! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to staying here again the next time we visit Santa Fe!
