La Souleilo' is located at 950m elevation above the village of Ercé at the edge of the forest on south facing land that remains sunny all day long. The house has recently been renovated, conserving its traditional granite walls wood and slate roofs but on the inside providing modern comforts. The road leading up to the house is unpaved and rough. However: no traffic, no noise, no pollution. Just the sound of cowbells from the pastures and the church bell from the bottom of the valley. La Souleilo is 20 minutes from the ski station Guzet-Neige, which you can see from the house. It can be a point of departure for several walks, and depending on the season you can find chestnuts, mushrooms, wild strawberries and blueberries. Good trout fishing is within walking distance. Erce village is part of the Haut Cousseran in the Pyrenees. 120 Kms South of Toulouse. It takes about one hour and 20 minutes by highway passing through the cities of Saint Girons and Oust. 135 Kms from Carcassonne. About 2 hours passing by Mirepoix Foix Massat and Oust.

Location and history: The lieu-dit ' La Souleilo' is located above the village of Ercé at the edge of the forest on south facing land that remains sunny all day long. Many stone barns were built on this part of the mountain, where the grass remained green all year round and the cows could graze even in winter. With the mechanisation of farming, the barns of Souleilo were abandoned, as the slopes were too steep for tractors. They have recently been renovated, conserving their traditional granite walls and slate roofs but on the inside providing modern comforts. From the large covered terrace with its barbecue you can relax and admire the splendid view of the Pyrenees and the Mont Valier. Shopping: At Erce village(about 1km from the house) you will find a cafe- restaurant and a small grocery store with all basic food. All kind of stores are available at Oust (8 kms) and big supermarket at Saint Girons (20 Kms). Many restaurants are available in the surrounding villages.

Ski: Guzet Ski station can be seen from the gite. It is at 14 kms at an altitude of 1400 meters (Pelioou is at 1000 m.). Season usually starts in December and finishes end of March. For more information, please contact us for web site details. In the heart of pine forest, the ski resort of Guzet awaits you. The network of snow-guns has been newly extended for a guarantee of abundant snow the whole season long. This resort offers a wide range of skiing pleasures with its snow park, entertainment, and shops. Unlike bigger station Guzet is never crowded and you will not spend your time queuing.

Quelle belle maison pour des vacances! Confortable,propre, chaleureuse,il n'y manque absolument rien ! Les chevaux,les vaches, les anes, tout pour nous éblouir! La cour, le foyer et la vue! Mais quelle vue sur ces pics| Nous y serions restés beaucoup plus longtemps! Déjà le dépaysement commence juste pour s'y rendre»!!! Et l,accueil de M. Koch est chaleureuse! Nous vous le recommandons sans aucun problème!! Bonnes vacances!

Excellent Base for Walking

Beautiful area, well equipped gite, wood burner for cool evenings, welcoming owner. Local villages provide plenty of small shops for grocery shopping, and for a few more St Girons is not far. Particularly good for walking as there is loads of information already in the house about local walking circuits. We were lucky with the weather, and didn't feel the need to go further than the local valley, in the short time (4 nights) we were there.

A Peaceful Retreat

We had a fantastic stay at La Souleilo. It has all the amenities necessary to create a little home away from home, especially with our one year old. Our little girl had her first birthday in this beautiful place. The kitchen had everything we needed including a food mill! The town of Ercé is a time warp, and the scenery is breathtaking. We would love to stay again, only next time we'd love to see the sun a bit more! There is so much to do in the area. We loved the Caves of Naix.
