This cottage is self-contained, set in an old lava area covered with birchwood in West Iceland.
It has a master bedroom (sleeps 2), a 2°floor bedroom (sleeps 2), a studio with a sofa bed (sleeps 1-2), an open kitchen/dining/living-room, a w.c, a shower and a Finnish sauna. A spacious balcony surrounds the house, with access to car-park via a pedestrian bridge.
The house is set in a rural area characterized by lava and birchwood. Its exterior is clad with larch and grass (roof). The wonderfully clean water is extracted from the lava beneath the house.
Distance to Reykjavik is about 90 km, and there is about an hour´s drive to Stykkisholmur, the Snaefellsnes national park and Reykholt/Husafell.
Guests should be aware that the house is off the beaten track, i.e. it is located some 14 km. (gravel road) off the main road between Borgarnes and Stykkisholmur/Snæfellsnes, and the last 3-4 km. are a simple driveway. All services are sought in Borgarnes, some 24 km. (20-25 min.) drive from the house.
The house is on the fringe of an area where there are about 10 houses scattered in the lava, a few hundred meters from any other building. Tranquility and silence, disrupted only by bird song and the sound of water from a nearby brook.
The panorama is 360°. Excellent hiking routes in the lava fields/woodland, or on to the nearby hills and slopes. A very rich arctic flora. Nearby fresh water fishing in Lake Hitarvatn and Langavatn and salmon fishing in the many rivers in the Borgarfjordur area.
Leisure services in the region include horse-riding, fishing, hiking, bird-watching etc.
All facilities (e.g. turist info, grocery shopping, medical services, swim-hall, bakery, coffee shops etc.) are to be found in Borgarnes, 24 km. away.
A special house in a beautiful setting.
