The apartments building is located in the centre of the little village of Canaules between the Mediterranean coast & the Cevennes Mountains . It is just a 15 minute drive from Anduze ( the Gateway to the Cevennes ) . Anduze is a thriving tourist town with a good selection of restaurants and cafés all along the main street . It really comes alive at weekends but is also worth a visit in midweek for the Wednesday night market or the Thursday morning traditional market . Also 15 minutes away you will find the larger town of Alés . This is one of the biggest towns in the region and it has all of the facilities , attractions & shopping options you would expect to find in any large town . In Alés also you will find a sandy river beach open June to August. There is entertainment laid on, easy parking and clear shallow water for swimming. Nearby also ( within 1 hour ) are the exciting cities of Nimes & Montpellier as well as the beaches of the Mediterranean & the ski resorts of the Cevennes.

The list of activities and things to do in Languedoc Roussillon, is absolutely endless. You'll find water practically everywhere so there's no shortage of canal boating, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, fishing and swimming . Three mountain ranges make skiing, rock climbing and walking great options too. Golf , tennis & horseriding are all nearby also.

For the slightly more adventurous, there's ballooning (there's nothing like floating over the rivers and vineyards of Languedoc on a summer's day), paragliding and flying (guided flights over the Cathar castles are highly recommended). For equestrians, there's France's most famous horse trail (Le Sentier Cathar), and for ornithologists, the variety of birds in Languedoc, especially in the mountainous and swamp regions, with everything from vultures to pelicans.

Flights to Languedoc are multiplying, thanks to the low-cost airline boom, which has brought down prices and opened up small airports . As a result flights to Languedoc are now surprisingly cheap. Excellent motorways mean that the many airports near Languedoc are also a great option if you're visiting the region. You can even fly into Girona in Spain and stock up on spirits at the border! . Food & Drink : Nearby you will find many small villages & towns which have an abundance of places for eating & drinking . There's one small bar / restaurant in Saint-Jean-De-Serres which is just 1.5 km away. You can also get really good take-away pizza here . A little further on in Ledignan (5km's) there are a couple of places to eat & drink as well as another pizza take-away . For a selection of Bars & Restaurant's there is of course nearby Lezan which is just 4 km away . Sauve (11 km's away) has some very good restaurants hidden among it's narrow streets as has it's next door neighbour - Quissac (10.4 km's from Canaules) where you will also find a nice fast food / take-away. For a bigger choice of restaurants visit nearby Anduze (known as the gateway to the Cevennes). Here you will find many family friendly restaurants side by side along the main street . During the Summer months in particular Anduze is buzzing with tourist activity but even during the quiet Winter months Anduze has a feeling of excitement about it that is difficult to describe .

These 2 apartments are especially suitable for families with young children . There is one apartment on the first floor . This apartment can also accommodate up to 7 people . On the second floor there are 2 large apartments . Each one can comfortably accommodate 8 people & can be extended to take up to 10 people . It is possible to rent all 5 apartments for your holiday or for various functions , A combination of any of the 5 apartments for larger families / groups is available also . Gerry speaks fluent French, Italian, and some Spanish and German. He was born a Belgian, educated a Frenchman and bred an Englishman. I, Jenny, am English and I am working on my french. My franglais is very 'Allo Allo' but I've become very good at charades to get myself understood.

Both Gerry and I adore France, the countryside, the food, the weather and the wine. We feel very privileged to have the opportunity to look after this beautiful building in such an exquisite part of France.

We've visited France nearly every year in one area or another, including a 3 month trip around France in a small camper van (or hot tin can, as it felt at the time). We can honestly say that having been here in Canaules, it is the most quintessential France we have yet seen. We are both keen skiers and spend time, every winter, in Montgenevre on the French Italian border.

Whether you are seeking a relaxing break by the pool, enjoying the countryside, sampling the superb wines from nearby vineyards, sight seeing, or a more active holiday, La Bastide des Lavandières apartments are ideally placed.

La Bastide des Lavandieres is located in the village of Canaules deep in the Languedoc wine producing region of the south of France . Originally constructed during the 19th century (1850) it has previously been used as a small hotel as well as a café & a night club . Following extensive renovations & rebuilding during 2007 & the early months of 2008 this wonderfully preserved stone building has now been converted into seven luxury apartments with private off-road parking & extra large swimming pool.

Canaules is a typical French village - small but full of character . It is close to a number of larger villages & small towns as well as numerous vineyards - many of which welcome visitors . Guests are very welcome to come & visit our friends the Plagne family at the nearby Domaine de la Vallière and also the Chardonnaud family at Domaine les Vieux Foudres . Both vineyards are delighted to welcome our guests for tastings , tours etc .

Nearby you will find a selection of excellent restaurants & typically French small bars . Ales which is just a 15 minute drive away has all of the shopping & entertainment options you would find in any large city of it's size . And now it has a beach as well ! Nimes , Montpellier & Marseilles are just 3 of the cities which are easily reached as well as the beaches on the coast or the skiing in the Cevennes. The seven large apartments in La Bastide des Lavandieres have been completed & furnished to a very high standard with all the facilities & amenities you would expect to find in any top class accomodation including en-suite bedrooms , large living & dining space & spacious balconies or terraces with bbq's provided . All apartments have Free WiFi internet , UK satellite tv channels & radio stations as well as digital French TV . Access to building is controlled by an intercom system with buzzer release for front door in each apartment .

Outside we have a large 12m x 6m swimming pool with a shallow kids area , inflatable pool toys , sun loungers , tables , chairs & sun umbrellas . The pool area is fully fenced & gated to ensure child safety at all times . Our pool is open from early May until mid October . During this time we also have our pool bar open where during the afternoons & early evenings you are welcome to enjoy a glass of wine / soft drink & a chance to get away from the hot summer sun in the company of fellow guests . *Free Wi-Fi is available in the pool area & in our poolhouse bar.

In our courtyard you will find a kids play area as well as extra tables & chairs for dining outdoors either with family or other guests . Our large private car park has space for up to 8 cars.
