Sylvia and Andre are great and made us feel welcome and at home. Their place was very comfortable for four of us and we loved being surrounded by the works of these two talented artists. Cool neighborhood.

Brooklyn Is The Place to Be

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five enjoyed four nights in this comfortable brownstone. We fell in love with Brooklyn, which though huge, is a borough of neighborhoods. The residence is about an 8 minute walk to the subway (a Q train gets you to the south end of Central Park in 30 minutes), and to Prospect Park, which is Brooklyn's own Central Park. The residence is located in a diverse, historical, "real" neighborhood. We enjoyed sweets from Cinnamon Girl, dinners at King of Tandoor and J&J Jamaican restaurants, and breakfast at Wholesome Foods, all within a 5 minute walk. We also took in an Easter service at Brooklyn Tabernacle; took in Coney Island rides/games/boardwalk; hiked through Prospect Park; explored neighborhoods like Midwood, Brighton Beach, Park Slope and Borough Park; and walked over the Brooklyn Bridge---all (except for Coney Island and $31 for a 7 day METRO pass) for free. A bottle of wine and Snickers treats were a nice welcome, and the residence was a great place to launch out from and return to at the end of adventures. The residence also doubles as art and photography gallery that displays the owners' striking creations. Skip Manhattan, and come (or at least stay) here.

Very comfortable & spacious in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

My husband, daughter, and I spent a very happy 3-day weekend, celebrating both my husband's birthday and our daughter's quarter-century birthday. We really enjoyed seeing the Batsheva Dance Company perform and hearing Batsheva's artistic director talk at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) - the main event during our weekend dance adventure. It was very easy to get to the subway, which we all took to BAM and which my daughter and I took to Lincoln Center so she could do some research in the NY Public Library for the Performing Arts. We also went to the Manhattan JCC where my daughter helped teach a Nia dance jam and to the 92Y/Harkness Dance Center, where my daughter met with the director.

It was very helpful to have a well-outfitted kitchen. We also went to a new restaurant in Brooklyn - Mason & Mug, started by the son of our daughter's dance troupe mentor in Chicago - delicious, farm-to-table, kosher small plates, definitely not my grandparents' kosher fare.

The apartment was clean and well-maintained, and Sylvia and Andre were very helpful and responsive in answering our questions via email before we arrived, and by phone when we were leaving. We really enjoyed Sylvia's paintings and Andre's photographs, which grace the walls. We'll definitely recommend this property to our friends and relatives, and next time, we're back in NYC, we hope to stay there again.

A family affair

  • 5 of 5

My brother turned 21 on September 11th so my family and I decided to plan a surprise trip to NY. To pay our respects to the September 11th memorial and to say good bye to our childhood hero Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees.

We arrived in Brooklyn from Los Angeles and the trip immediately got off to a great start when we met the awesome artist Sylvia. The apartment is very spacious and very comfortable. Can't beat the location specially for the price. Just a 5 minute walk to the Q train and 15 mins later you're in Manhattan. The neighborhood itself has many grocery stores including one that is similar to a Wholefoods. I think it was called Wholesome. Few good pizza spots and terrific Indian food too.

All in all our trip was amazing. The Yankees won on a walk off homerun and that was worth more than the price of admission.

Sylvia thank you for your hospitality. Definitely be back. The little touches of your art and your husbands photos make for a cozy stay. Oh and thank you for the free coffee. I've already ordered my own through Amazon. We'll be back for sure.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

This is a cool, very-good-value apartment in Lefferts Gardens which is well situated for exploring Brooklyn and NYC. The neighbourhood is friendly and for the time being, relatively hipster-free. That said, the local Wholesome Foods market is a bonus, groceries-wise, and the trendier shops and restaurants of Park Slope, on the opposite side of Prospect Park, are a mere subway stop away. The park itself, a haven for joggers and cyclists, is five minutes' walk away and hosts a farmers' market on Saturdays. There's really no reason to stay in Manhattan.

Sylvia and André were perfect hosts, attentive/available yet relaxed. You'll feel like you have your own place. The apartment itself was as advertised - the hosts' painting and photography is a nice touch. The TV does show some local channels, but no cable, while the Wi-Fi worked perfectly. Large, functional kitchen. Sleigh bed in spare room sleeps 6'2" comfortably. One could say that the apartment is a little frayed around the edges - paintwork, etc - but that's also part of its charm, and it was clean everywhere it needed to be, especially bathroom. Our only (minor) criticism is that the ceilings/walls aren't very well insulated against noise, however this isn't a complaint against the hosts/neighbours, who were conscientious at night and in the morning. In other words we got our sleep.

We'd definitely go back!

Clean and convenient in a great location!!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was clean, kitchen had everything we needed. There was even ice in the freezer all ready for us and coffee pods for the one cup coffee machine. However, on the practical side, I have to say that this apartment really cannot comfortably sleep six unless two of the six are very small children. As you walk in the door, on the left is the living room/bedroom #1 with several straight chairs, a leather sofa which folds down to a "bed" and a king bed. There is also a separate little bedroom with a single bed with a trundle . These beds were very comfortable and in a separate room so good for children if the adults wished to stay up and talk. Our two teenage daughters could not sleep on the sofa "bed" and ended up sleeping on the floor with quilts under them. For four people the apartment would have been ideal. We went all over NYC from this apartment. There are two subway stations approximately the same distance from the apartment so it was possible to go almost anywhere quite easily. Also found it easy to find the apartment when we drove from New England. We loved NEW YORK!! Hosts Sylvia and Andre were very friendly and nice and were able to answer any questions we asked. There was even a complimentary bottle of wine when we arrived but since we don't drink, we left it for the next guests to enjoy..

Owner's Response: It was wonderful to have you stay with us, and we are sorry that your daughters didn't find the sleeper-sofa comfortable enough. Nobody had complained about it before, but we will now look into buying a new sofa that is better suited for sleeping. We always appreciate any input to improve every aspect of our guests stay.

Charming Brooklyn Brownstone

  • 5 of 5

My dear girlfriends & I met up for a weekend getaway in NYC. We opted to stay in Brooklyn rather than the hustle & bustle of Manhattan. What a treat this home away from home was!! Sylvia & Andre were wonderful hosts - we even had a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived! The neighborhood was quiet & beautiful but still close to any amenities you may need. This will be our choice when visiting NYC again - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
