Filthy home with bugs and critters
We were a group of 6 adults and 2 small children; my husband and I and our 2 daughters families for Memorial weekend. 1st the good: It's in a decent location. There were ample towels, washcloths, and bed clothing. The kitchen was equipped with dishes & the standard small appliances as well as garb bags, soap, PT, etc. The bad: Within the 1st hour we saw a cockroach in a kitchen drawer. Because of this, we decided to wash some of the dishes. When we opened the dishwasher there were about 5 roaches in there scurrying about so that seemed to defeat the purpose of cleaning the dishes. At that point I called the mgmt company and left a message. The response time was fairly quick and I was basically asked what needed to be done. I suggested some sort of roach traps since we had small children and I didn't want poisonous spray in the home. The following afternoon someone came & we saw one roach house was placed under the kitchen sink. We bought some household spray and killed about 20 roaches ourselves during our 3 night stay. We did consider that the cockroaches had likely killed off the bed bugs so we did struggle with killing the roaches. If you don't mind roaches then this might be the place for you. Secondly the floors, which were mostly wood, were filthy. In addition to sand everywhere it was if they had not been damp mopped in months. If you walked anywhere in the house without shoes on, your feet were black. Because of this evident lack of cleanliness.....it disgusted me to sit on any of the furniture, particularly the main couch/futon in the living room which had a stained cover on it. If you don't mind dirt then this might be the place for you. On the final night of our stay I was awakened by quite a commotion in the attic directly above my bedroom. My first thought was "oh it's a cockroach fight". Then I realized it was something much bigger than a roach; more likely a raccoon. The noise in the attic lasted about 45'. The next day we inspected the roof line (from the ground below) and noticed a nest of some sort. If you don't mind critters in the attic then this might be the place for you. I didn't want to dwell on these issues while there because it was only 3 nights & it was precious family time. I did send an email to mgmt which required 2 follow-up emails for a response. I was told that a home on a marsh in a woods can attract bugs and coons/squirrels. Maybe so, but I feel this should be disclosed up front and so I am.
