Marsh Gayz is a private river front home with a deep water dock tucked away on Tabby Island, a secluded waterfront neighborhood of Folly Beach, South Carolina. Surrounded by age old live oaks, saltmarsh meadows and the wide waters of the Folly River, this beautiful home features spectacular private views of the Low Country at its finest. Although sequestered away from the main beach drag, it’s still only a 5 minute stroll to the beach and the famed surfer’s paradise known as the “Washout.” The quaint commercial district of Center Street and Folly Landing, with its many restaurants, shops, night clubs and parks, is also just a short bicycle, drive or boat ride away. You can easily launch your boat at the landing and dock in your own backyard during your stay 24/7. Historic downtown Charleston, SC is a scenic 15-20 minute hop over the island connector that characterize this part of the East Coast.

Unlike many coastal homes, only four steps up takes you to the haven within. This single story dwelling sleeps (6-8) people with three bedrooms and 3 full baths (one with a deep Jacuzzi tub). The roomy master suite has a sweeping view of the river via glass sliders that open onto the wide back deck. A spacious great room with beautiful Morris Island brick gas fireplace, bumper pool/games table and separate walk-in bar embraces even more stunning views of the river. The large well-equipped kitchen comes complete with a central island, dishwasher, microwave, trash compacter, multiple tools for the culinary inclined and a large dining table for seating 8 or more. A small study/shell room can be found off the main entryway, and there is also full pantry/laundry facility and a large garage. This home contains all the amenities including wireless Internet, Cable TV, 52” flat screen TV, DVD player, sound dock for Ipods, ceiling fans, and central heating and air conditioning.

Although the house is a sanctuary in itself, it’s really all about the great outdoors. A spacious sundeck spans the entire back of the house and leads you across the lawn to a short railed dock ending at the river. The dock facility has both floating and stationary platforms, and is complete with a shaded area and bench seats, fish cleaning station with sink, water, lights and power. There is also a paved patio area in the back yard that is perfect for oyster roasts, shrimp or crab boils and other seafood affairs with a stainless table, portable cooker and pots, shell barrels and an open pit fireplace for adding a little late night ambiance.

Marsh Gayz is an ideal getaway for families or friends who have an interest in all of the watersports delights that the river world offers, while fish, crabs, clams and oysters can be caught or found right out the back door! With amazing sunsets to the west, the statuesque Morris Island Lighthouse to the east and miles of river and marsh in between, one could not want more for a perfect summertime setting. It’s also an excellent venue for small quiet gatherings whether for family vacations, reunions, graduations, small weddings or housing wedding guests. Having traveled from Massachusetts & Michigan, we were delighted with the surroundings. The dock was the most favorite spot - enjoyed throughout the day and evening. The privacy and peace and quiet were greatly appreciated. Wonderful Location! Close to everything but secluded and not "on top of your neighbors." Reservation process was very easy. Best wishes for continued success in the rental arena.

Marsha Pardee, M.Sc. is a marine ecologist who works as an independent consultant specializing in environmental management, eco-tourism and many other conservation related projects and programs. Although raised on Folly, she lives in the Turks and Caicos Islands and works throughout the Caribbean region, but enjoys coming back 'home' for the holidays and especially for shrimp season in the Fall.

Owner/Manager purchased this house in 1970

I was raised on Folly Beach, moving into this house as a young child. I have a love for all things in the water so being raised on the water only grew my passion for my profession.

You can see historical Morris Island Lighthouse from the dock in the distance but it is a short ride to go see it and park then walk 1/4 mile to the beach. While you can enjoy kayaking on the water, you can also walk a few steps to get to the beach or bicycle to Center Street.

It was a very welcoming home.

The entire stay was just wonderful. The home had everything that we needed. I loved the location. We were close to the beach and to the town. The best part was the dock. I sat out there every morning to drink my coffee. I loved watching the dolphins come by. Natalie was also great. I would text my questions to her and she always answered promptly. This was very helpful. Thank you again for sharing this home.

Perfect getaway for a girls weekend!

We loved this property from the moment we got there. There was plenty of space for our group and everyone enjoyed the outdoors and the house (since it was a rainy weekend).

Natalie was so organized and left all of the important information about the house and town out for us to review. It was a little farther from town (about 1.5-2 miles) but we really enjoyed the charm of the house and all the activities that came with it.

Amazing Views! Everything we expected.

We really enjoyed our stay at Marsh Gayz. The house was full of character . We loved how spacious it was. The dock was great. Our teenage boys enjoyed fishing from the dock and taking the Kayaks out for an explore. We all saw the dolphins on a daily basis. This vaction home exceeded our expectations. I definately would recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Thank you. We always appreciate hearing from our guests and getting their feedback. With regard to HomeAway payment processing, that is only one of many ways to pay your deposit and balance. We also accept several other methods that have no credit card transaction fees involved (per the paragraph at the top of our rental agreement such as check, PayPal, cashier's check). We engaged the HomeAway "Book It Now" feature earlier this year so that our guests could instantly process their reservation to lock in their dates. While the first HomeAway payment only permits for payment by credit card (that incurs a 2.5% fee), the balance offers an E-Check option that drafts from your bank account and no additional fees are charged. PayPal is free when you have a funded bank account attached and you send the funds to "family & friends" vs. for "goods & services". If a credit card is used with PayPal, there is a 2.9% fee they clearly disclose that is the guests responsibility and can be deducted out of the typically refunded security deposit. We are very flexible as we are a privately owned home. If we get an email requesting a rental with dates, we are happy to hold the reservation for 5 days until the 50% deposit is received. Overall, we are happy to learn the house/property/management was not the issue and that you enjoyed your 3 day stay. We hope you will consider Marsh Gayz in the future when traveling to Charleston.

The property was AWESOME!

Best vacation ever for our family! The house was clean, very roomy and just lovely.
There was 'something for everyone' to enjoy in our group...fishing, kayacking, crabbing, biking, watching the dolphins, or just relaxing. We loved the pier area; and the sunset view was so pretty. Folly Beach's downtown area is fun also. We enjoyed the house/pier so much, we never made it to the beach, but that was just fine with us. The pier was our hangout. Natalie was so nice and helpful and she works hard to keep things in good shape for visitors. Charleston was an easy drive. We plan to return to Marsh Gayz!

The dock at the house is a special spot and most frequently all the guests find they spend more time there than the beach because it offers something for everyone (shade if needed since it's covered, or full on sun on the floating dock where you can take a dip into the river, easily accessed by the ladder. Notes:
We can accommodate special events/weddings and have all the referral resources needed to make it special. Jan 2014 wonderful renovations and updates have been made. A new door in the back foyer now has an long open pane of glass and the great room has French doors that opens out to the back deck, both really brings the outdoors in and enhance the view. The back foyer and bath have also been tiled, which we hope to extend through the kitchen and hallways by Fall 2014. The outdoor lower cement patio has gotten a refresh and is dubbed the “Picasso Party Pit”; a conversation piece of its own! This is where we have our oyster roasts, Lowcountry boils, etc.... We're installing another outdoor sink/counter on the patio with running water which makes party clean-up super easy. The master bed/bath has been overhauled and each bedroom has been refreshed. The great room received a new leather sleeper sofa.
