Photos and Description of the Couesmes-Vauce vacation cottage rental
Spacious converted barn in secluded gardens.

La Passoniere is the ideal destination for individuals or couples who prefer quality, secluded and peaceful accommodation with all the amenities for that special get-away-from-it-all holiday. No neighbours and no worries. Just the occasional sounds of Farmer Gilles on his tractor and birdsong in the mature, well-kept garden. There’s ample space for two to relax in comfort. The ground floor has a large living room under an open ‘cathedral’ ceiling with a wood-burning fire (wood at cost) and fully-equipped kitchen area. The former hayloft has a bedroom and an enclosed shower room (with modern hydro-jet shower) and toilet. The lounge area has a comfortable two-seater settee and a single armchair, coffee tables, English satellite TV and radio and DVD/CD player. The kitchen area has a gas cooker, fridge and microwave and a comfortable table for two. La Passonière stands at the end of a country lane – so no passing traffic to disturb those wine-induced slumbers!

The welcoming touch: We like to make our guests feel at home straight away so to help you settle in we offer a little ‘welcome pack’ which includes tea, coffee, milk and water. And all towels and linen are supplied free so there’s more room in the car to take all those goodies like wine and cheese home with you. Having a break from housework? We can provide a mid-week cleaning service at a small extra charge. For guests staying longer than a week a mid-holiday change of bedding and towels is provided free of charge. We also supply maps of the surrounding area and brochures and guides (often in English!) to all the major local attractions. There are plenty of fine restaurants offering local beef, seafood and innumerable cheeses, but this is farming country and the plats de jour available at the local bar/restaurants are a lunchtime delight and great value for money. Your hosts Jane and Mick have a list of their favourite eateries they will be only too happy to share with you.

Looking for your own place in France?: Situated right on the borders of Normandy, Brittany and Pays de la Loire, La Passoniere is the perfect base for your property hunt. With the nearest Channel port of Caen and Dinard airport both just 90 minutes away – and the seaside even closer – you will be ideally placed to search for your own piece of French heaven. Let your hosts Jane and Mick give you the benefit of their house-hunting experiences, or perhaps they can help you contact local English-speaking estate agents. Whatever you are looking for, there's nothing like a bit of local knowledge to help you on the way!

SUPERB VALUE FOR MONEY! Get a discount of up to 10% off your Brittany Ferries crossing when you book your holiday at La Passoniere. Just ask Jane or Mick for more information.

Wildlife spectacular!: La Passionere stands alone in acres of open farmland but it's not just cows and sheep you'll see during your holiday. The birdlife here is fantastic. Buzzards, kestrels and sparrowhawks share the skies with owls, robins and blue tits. We even have the secretive hoopoe paying us a visit. You can't mistake its distinctive whoop, whoop call. Red squirrels scamper around the garden collecting acorns and bats flit across the evening sky in search of insects. For anyone interested in wildlife, La Passoniere is the place to be.

Rolling Normandy countryside, pretty towns and villages nestling in forests or alongside gently meandering rivers – La Passoniere is surrounded by the best of French countryside. The Normandy landing beaches are 90 minutes drive away. 2009 was the 65th anniversary of the landings and there is always plenty going on to commemorate the occasion. Beautiful Bayeux is just over an hour’s drive away, with the 70-metre long tapestry depicting how William the Conqueror invaded England and defeated King Harold. Also about an hour away is the stunning Mont St Michel, one of France’s best-known landmarks, which in 2009 celebrated its 1300th birthday. Friendly bars and restaurants offer excellent – and cheap – meals and if you've over-indulged a little why not work it all off with a round of golf or a spot of horse riding or cycling? La Passoniere is your French retreat. A place where you can relax and unwind one day and explore the beautiful surrounding area the next.

Idyllic countryside retreat

5 of 5
Submitted: April 29, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
We booked a week in france to not only relax and get away from it all, but also to celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary. We managed to both in this idyllic spot in rural France. The owners Jane and Mick were very friendly and helpful, full of information and knowledge about the area, recommending places to visit and things to do.
We are not particuarly dog people (having two cats ourselves), but you cannot help but fall in love with Tess the springer spaniel who is extremely well behaved and very friendly.
Jane is obviously very proud of her gite, as she has thoughtfully kitted it out with everything you need and more. If you read all the fiction books, information leaflets and cookery books you would have to book in for at least a year, and that's not to mention the dvd's and board games etc.
Our car exhaust went on our second day there and Mick very kindly took us to the local garage and used his best French, charm and persuasion to get them to fix it for us that day. He also offered to book us a table at a local top class, but very reasonably priced restaurant, to celebrate our actual anniversary (but not on Mondays because everywhere is closed!). We can highly recommend that for a special occasion.
All in all we found the gite to be very quiet, comfortable and self contained. It didn't take us long to settle in and make ourselves at home. If there is one thing we would recommend you do - make sure you take or buy a couple of pounds of bacon, cook it for breakfast with the window open and watch Mick and Tess drool as the smell wafts their way on the early morning dog walk!!

La Passoniere

We had a fabulous stay in this lovely, cosy cottage in spite of the cool (for folks from Arizona) weather. The accommodation was perfect for the two of us, very well-maintained and comfortable, with everything we could possibly need. There were plenty of good books, DVDs, and CDs for the rainy days. The hosts, Jane and Mick (and Tess the springer spaniel) were charming and helpful. The wood burner ensured warmth on cool days and the garden was perfect for al fresco meals. We enjoyed the food from the local supermarkets and the fresh produce at the open air markets. The surrounding countryside was very pretty with luscious green fields and contented cows. A perfect holiday spot for peace and serenity.

Lovely quiet location in the french countryside.

This was everything we had read; set in rural location with only farmers fields around it, yet only a mile or so to the nearest bar and shop. Jane and Mick made us so welcome and had so many suggestions on local places to visit. We especially liked their reccommendations on places to eat where you could get a 6 course meal with a litre of red wine for only 20 euro's!
The accomodation was very clean; and set in a beautyfully restored old barn. It still retained old beams and other quirky bits but had double glazing to keep it snug and warm. Surrounding the property were very well maintained gardens with hanging baskets and flowers everywhere.

The peace and tranquility is one of the things we liked most, so if you want somewhere to sit and relax and listen to the sound of the birds, and the wind in the trees, this is the spot!

Fabulous French Fortnight

La Passoniere is the ideal place for couples to get away from it all. Surrounded by gorgeous French countryside, friendly local bars and restaurants just a few minutes away and endless things to see and do. The gite is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday. The garden is ideal for lazy days in the sunshine, barbecues and the odd glass or two of vin rouge! Jane and Mick are the perfect hosts, offering help and advice if you want it but making sure you have plenty of privacy as well.
The perfect holiday destination and great value for money. We'll be back!

Relaxing, friendly and a great holiday

I had never stayed in a gite before, only hotels and was a little apprehensive about what to expect. I need not have worried; it was one of my best holidays for a very long time. The description and pictures of the gite, which was clean and comfortable, are accurate and the garden was the icing on the cake. The garden let us relax in the evenings after a days sightseeing and was ideal after the walk to the local auberge, which did happen a couple of times as the weather was very very kind to us.
Jane and Mick were perfect hosts with information that really helped during our stay.
A brilliant holiday and was sad to leave, it let us wind down, relax and recharge the batteries.
