SOUTH OCEAN VILLA ON THE SEA, SUPERB SUNSETS/BEACHES

This was our first visit, and absolutely delighted by this villa. It is everything the pictures show, absolutely super. Owners really helpful and accommodating, and all the information left is really helpful. Only minor adjustment is that bedroom 2 says large double bed - whereas we'd say it is a standard double. The location is as others describe it and I can't think of a better place to start the experience. I'd advise those new to the island to use the bus services (right outside the door) for all local runs. The island is only small - and can be done by public transport - but would agree with a taxi driver for one day - suggest doing it early - as they will give you a tour of the island probably better than an organised group. Agree an hourly rate. We had a guy called Carlisle who was absolutely super. We wanted to do Harrisons cave and west coast. Didn't pre book Harrison's cave (tip for those who are going), and we arrived about 9.30 but were just pipped to post - so had to return 11.00 am - but no big deal. Carlisle anticipated this and took us on a trip round and about and had us back ready for Harissons at our 11.00 am slot. We ended up doing the west side (with a rum shop stop), and right down the east coast. If you do it early in our holiday it gives you a better grounding of the island and gives more confidence in doing your own thing later on public transport. Crane Beach on the Sam Lord bus (all buses outside apartment), Silver Sands, Speightstown all done on public tranport. Oistins on Friday - beat the rush hour bus traffic. The large buses have to stick to the route (small white buses may do back streets, and taxis will avoid the slow traffic). The boardwalk outside is brilliant - with excellent restaurants to suit all pockets within easy access. Would suggest booking restaurants to save having to wait - especially at weekends and in St Lawrence Gap or along boardwalk. The people are so helpful and nice. Re apartment - it is a private apartment - there is no general reception (we wrongly assumed there would be -so weren't too clever in agreeing a specific arrival time). Our taxi driver helpfully phoned up for us - we just "turned up", and would have been having to use English mobiles and working out codes - so just make sure owner knows when you are arriving or you won't be able to get in.....
