We traveled in a motor home all over the United States and we truly believe this is the best of everything we saw. It feels like you are teleported to the Caribbean. It's much more like an Ocean Hideaway than a simple lake house. The water has that aquamarine blue with deep blue depths way out. You can walk way out into the shallow water on the sandy bottom. Perfect for the kids.
You have your own PRIVATE, huge sand dunes in the backyard. Why drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes, when you have your own? Spend hours climbing the dunes and be rewarded with a spectacular 360-degree view of Cathead Bay and Leelanau County from the top(I'm going to ask one of our guests this year to share a picture from the top). This is truly unique because you are on a private road with private residences. The public is not allowed to park their cars to climb the dunes or enter the State park next door or they will be towed. They literally would have to hike in for miles to reach this spot.
You have literally miles and miles of idyllic sandy beach to walk, runk, kayak, board, snorkel, dive, fish or swim. This property is located just a short distance from the State Park. There is no one around. You'll feel like Tom Hanks in Castaway. People can hike in from the State park parking lot miles away but that rarely happens.
This is Lake Michigan at its best. Magnificent sunsets set right into the water directly in front! No two sunsets are EVER the same. Every night you can take a different, beautiful picture of the sun setting right into the 'ocean'. Look for the GREEN FLASH! It is what everyone looks for each night.
Don't forget the perfect Bonfire on the Beach. There is something magical about S'mores and an open fire on a perfect stargazing night with the sound of surf rolling in! How many island vacations allow that to happen? This really makes for magical nights.
When heading off onto the deck, there are NO city sounds, just the sound of the surf and crickets. Bring a telescope or use our really great binoculars to stargaze. For those of you not used to the Northern Michigan sky at night, you are going to be amazed. When there is no city light pollution, the view is spectacular.

Months were spent transforming this into the funnest beach house in Michigan. This house represents the things we liked BEST about other places. It’s kind of a mix of California, the Bahamas, Australia, and Key West, with a little Michigan beach house thrown in.
It's upscale, but not so upscale that you'll feel uptight about taking full advantage of everthing. So that's it, upscale without the uptight!
Cleverly functional home feels spacious and comfortable!
Sunny Dunes is very cleverly designed. Closing the huge pocket doors between the Kitchen and Living Room creates a giant Master Suite. The Dining Room (rarely used because dinner outside is so much nicer) doubles as a wonderful Breezeway / Sitting Room by folding the leaves of the table and using it as a side table. At night there’s great privacy from the master and the kids rooms.
We haven't even touched on the restaurants, wineries or shopping! You are short drive to cute Northport, with grocery store and fun restaurants. A few more minutes and you can be in Leland with Fishtown and the dam or Suttons Bay with all of its shops and restaurants. In addition, Leelanau County is home to some of the best wineries in the country. We will give you all the best places to go. We love this place and want to share it with you!
