Fees due in addition the rental rate are a cleaning fee, hotel taxes and a fully refundable security deposit.

Known for its 180-year old water-powered mill, and wonderful pancake flour, this historic, mid-lake location is the home to a most unique vacation property. Atop a well-loved, area antique shop is “Millard’s Nook,” a comfy one bedroom apartment. Named for Millard Fillmore, our 13th US President, who once attended and taught school in the original 1820’s farm house, the apartment was developed as part of an extensive renovation of the building in early 2000.

With all the amenities available for a most enjoyable stay, the apartment is comfortable, well-appointed, and appealing; AND it is right in the middle of everything the area has to offer. You could not find a better place to unwind and soak up the picturesque Finger Lakes region of Central New York State.

Enjoy nature's beauty bicycling or driving along miles of rolling rural roads, past farms & mature forests, and around gorges, streams, & waterfalls

You are also less than 2 miles from Skaneateles Lake, “the Jewel of the Finger Lakes Region,” known for its water’s pureness, clarity and beauty. Water sports abound and there is easy access to the lake from many public access locations in the area. In addition, you are only 12 miles from the charming Village of Skaneateles, at the top of the lake, with many unique shops, boutiques and world class restaurants.

Historic sightseeing and wineries are nearby, as well as sportsmen opportunities and entertainment venues too numerous to mention.

As the review title says, we would stay there again. My wife and I made a last minute decision to visit friends and family in the finger lakes region, and we found our stay at Millard's Nook made our vacation much more enjoyable over a hotel . It was very easy to book online and communicate with the proprietor about availability and rates. We stayed for five nights and the rate was reasonable and well worth it. By staying at the property we were able to cook all of our meals and save probably $40-$60 a day on eating out.

Pros:
-Easy to find, it is at the main intersection of New Hope and it was both easy for us and our friends who visited us at the property to find.
-Right off the street, since it is right on the road we didn't have to worry about shoveling a driveway or waiting for one to be shoveled out.
-Kitchen, there was a great assortment of coffee, tea, and cocoa (a Keurig machine), enough pots, pans, and other kitchen hardware to make a decent meal. As well as a simple pantry of salts, pepper, sugar, etc.
-Laundry, it was great having laundry because it meant we could bring less clothes and also wash our infant son's clothes.
-Television/Entertainment/Internet, we didn't watch much TV but there was a good channel selection, an assortment of DVDs, tons of books, and respectable internet speeds for the area
-It was nice having the gas fireplace, but it seemed like there wan't alot of yellow flames to it.

Cons:
- There isn't much of an entry way, and it can get crowded if you have three or four people coming in at once. During the winter when everybody is coming in with big jackets, hats, and needs to also take shoes off, it can be a small traffic jam. Also the rug coming in is flimsy and gets dirty pretty quickly. Would be nice to enclose the entry porch to make some sort of a mud-room.
- The refrigerator seemed to run an awful lot, probably because we didn't have fully stocked. We got used to it makes it a little loud in the kitchen.
- Phone reception, we are on AT&T and the phone reception was shotty, of course this is outside of the proprietor's control.

Bottom line, is we highly recommend staying at Millard's Nook. It allowed us to see family and friends without having to drive all over the region.

Great Couple's Getaway

Great Couple's Getaway

My husband and I stayed at Millard's Nook for our annual retreat. We selected this place because we wanted to visit Skaneateles during the Dickens Christmas Festival. Skaneateles is the perfect place to find unique "treasures" for family and friends.

Both of us loved the apartment. It was charming and had all the amenities of home including internet. We wanted a quiet place in the country and this was perfect. The views between the apartment and Skaneateles were stunning.

The unique decor added to the warmth of this apartment. It was a perfect place to relax and recharge as a couple.

We were also impressed that the parking area had been shoveled prior to our arrival and that salt had been put on the walkway and steps. The guest guide had detailed information for dining and shopping as well as instructions for equipment.

The off season price was very reasonable and we would definitely consider staying there again.

The area was very beautiful. The Nook was very charming, and decorated very nice. Loved the fully equipped kitchen, including the Keurig coffee maker. All rooms were comfortable and cozy. We felt right at home. We were surprised and pleased when the owner greeted us with a nice gift. Had fun browsing antique shop. The town of Skaneateles was very quaint.

Great apartment above New Hope Antiques

  • Submitted: Aug 30, 2013

We rented this great apartment above the New Hope Antiques shop for 5 days in July 2013. I found it on the internet after shopping around for a rental on the Finger Lakes and not only was the price right, but the place was too!
It was like being at home (have to tell you that we are antique buffs). The place was furnished with period antiques that you can enjoy as well as all the regular furniture you’d expect in a nice apartment. My wife is diabetic so we like to eat a lot of our meals at home and the kitchen was outfitted with everything you could want (although have to admit we did take advantage of a couple meals at the Sherwood Inn, a great Skaneateles restaurant just 15 minutes up the lake).
The queen bed was very comfortable. We never used the pull out sofa for a bed but it was there if needed. They provided a great library of both books and dvds. We did take advantage of the dvds in our rental car when driving to the Corning Glass Museum (it was fantastic) and Ithaca.
The fireplace was not a feature I expected to use in July but since it did get down to 51 one night, we enjoyed it (most of the time we needed the a/c).
They provide a very complete guest guide on all the conveniences in the apartment plus a book with info on all the local sights (restaurants, wineries, etc) and where to go in nearby towns (we loved Auburn). Did I mention they tell you how to connect to Wi-Fi (just be sure you type all CAPS).
They have a fantastic landscaped lot and we enjoyed sitting in their lawn chairs and reading our books after a day of sightseeing. It was a very relaxing place to come back to after a day of driving (and there is a lot to see) and it was very centrally situated to visit any of the lakes.
If you ever need a place in central New York for a get-a-way, try this one. We did and were very pleased.
