Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home and island. Your home is not only beautiful but so considerately stocked we wanted for nothing. After long days at the beaches it was a pleasure to come “home”. Appreciate and thanks!
The view is amazing. The house is well stocked and very comfortable. But like I said the view is unbelievable as you lounge on the upper decks, pool side or while grilling. The house has plenty of space as the trip included my family of 5 plus my brother and his wife. This was our second trip to St. John and Casa Luna will definitely be on our list for our next trip back.
As with any place there is always the possibility of a problem and how those problems are handled is what can make or break the best of locations. When we arrived late Saturday we were escorted to the property by Leah of Island Getaways. She led us to the property which we would not have found on our own and showed us around the Vila. After she left we began to take showers and quickly discovered we had a water issue. More specifically the cistern was almost dry and we had no water pressure. We went to the book of numbers Leah had shown us and a maintenance man was soon on his way. After confirming our situation Kathy /Island Getaways arranged for a special delivery (two tanker trucks) to refill the cistern.
After resolving the problem in a timely manner Kathy insisted on paying for dinner at a restaurant of our choosing. As I said how problems are handle is what can truly make or break the best of locations.
We had an excellent trip at a truly great villa. Between The View and Island Getaways we will recommend this to anyone going to St John.
By the way did I mention The View...
Awesome views, just cant rave enough. Perfect vacation home. I actually rented this place in April 2010. It was fantastic with plenty of room . The pool, the hot tub, the grill make it really great to hang out just by the house. Its 4 yrs since i went here and I definitely keep dreaming of going back.
Only minor issue i remember was with the clothes dryer ( i think it tore/damaged one of my t shirts). I am pretty sure its all fixed now. But all in all one of my most memorable vacations. And yes, you def need a car.
Sometimes you just can't be sure that a vacation rental you reserve on-line is going to be as good as it appears.... Well, Casa Luna exceeded our expectations!!! The photos are spot-on, as are the amenities listed. We just got back from a family vacation, 2 sisters and our families along with our mom, and had the best time. There was so much room for all 10 of us, and the boys (ages 4-15) thoroughly enjoyed the pool and "party" area, although they wished there was more lighting at the pool area for night-time swimming. The house was clean and lacked for nothing; the kitchen was stocked with plenty (even spices) for all of us to eat in - which we did almost each night (we found that the restaurant prices are substantial for a family of 10). And yes, quiet places could be carved out for when it was needed!!!
As for our time on the island, we highly recommend Cinnamon Bay and Salt Pond Bay. For the more adventurous, Waterlemon Bay is beautiful & the L'esperance (or Reef Bay) hike is well worth the time (book those early through the National Park). Shipwreck Landing & Skinny Legs are good in Coral Bay, and the Tap Room and High Tide were really good in Cruz Bay. Definitely hit Starfish Market, but Calibash is well stocked and much closer to Casa Luna.
Kathy was a tremendous help and Ash answered all of our questions upon our arrival to Casa Luna (we even got a ride to the car rental). There were even treats in the refrigerator just for us!
All said, I would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in staying on St. John, whether as a family gathering or several couples traveling together. The views are spectacular and the location is great for visiting each part of the island.
We have rented 7 different houses on St.John in the past 6 years all over the island ,making us seasoned St.John travelers. Last year we found Casa Luna in Upper Carolina, a moderately priced home built in 1999. The location on the island is 25 minutes from Cruz Bay and 5 minutes from Coral Bay on Centerline Road. The kitchen is small but well equipped. 3 of the 4 bathrooms are not en suite. Despite these minor flaws we have never rented a more comfortable house on the island. The views are amazing. Being on the crest of a mountain, beautiful island air flows through the open sliding doors all day long. The front deck overlooks Bordeaux Mountain and Coral Bay. The covered back deck faces Tortola, Sir Francis Drake Channel, Jost Van Dyke and more than 10 other islands. You can see all the way to Virgin Gorda. There are 11 private sitting areas on the outside decks. Bedrooms could not be more comfortable or private. Donkeys and deer were in the driveway every evening.
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Luna and hope you will too.
