I fell in love with and purchased this home 10 years ago from the original owners. I have spent the previous 10 years making tasteful upgrades while preserving the original character. Professionally designed interior and exterior. It's a special place...
We fell in love with Brian's home when we saw the photos and we were NOT disappointed when we arrived. The house is big and beautiful. The grounds are incredible. Wow. We hope to book again- possibly in the summer.
We just got home from our week at Brian's house. We had an amazing trip--the house is exactly as it looks in the photos. The city view is outstanding, and Brian's terraced garden is amazing. There are sweet little chairs and benches throughout the garden, so you can sit and watch the hummingbird and gaze out at the city. It had rained for a few days just before we arrived, so the views of the city and the mountains beyond were crystal clear, day and night. The sunrise was always stunning, too. The house is in a lovely neighborhood, and all the neighbors we saw were very friendly and quiet. Baldwin Hills does seem to be kind of a restaurant desert (there's lots of fast food close by), but it's very easy to get to other neighborhoods with more exciting restaurants. The house is very close to a big Ralph's, though, so we did cook quite a bit at home. We had a great trip and definitely wished we could stay longer.
We were thrilled to have the opportunity to spend a week in this lovely home, and though our initial intent was simply escaping the brutal Northeast winter for California warmth, we found that the house itself became a prime focus for our enjoyment of our trip. The owner has kept what is significant and beautiful about the original architecture and has made sensitive updates where needed, making for a comfortable place to rest one's head and eyes. Add the astonishing views of LA and the spectacular, eco-appropriate gardens that the owner has planted on this property, and you've got one wonderful vacation spot. The location in the Baldwin Hills is convenient to the airport and to most of the city (this IS LA). The sensitive landscape design has created unusual privacy for the home, so you enter from a pretty but typically built-up residential street into an expansive environment that looks outward over the entire city, but not into the neighboring properties at all. In fact, it is one of the most private properties I have ever rented. You simply are not aware of neighbors while enjoying the pool and the hot tub, or lounging on the beautifully furnished terrace.
We found the house so comfortable and welcoming that we usually decided to eschew going to restaurants in favor of having friends over and making dinners on the terrace grill and in the well equipped kitchen. It is that kind of house - perfect for entertaining and just being at home. We quickly established a pattern to spend the day enjoying what LA offers and then coming home to relax in the pool, have drinks on the terrace as we watched the full moon rise over the lights of the city (unintentionally brilliant timing on our parts to be there during that phase), and the next day have coffee watching the sunrise as the city woke up.
I could probably go on all day about this house, but suffice to say that it is a marvelous place to come and relax in style in a beautifully preserved piece of American Vernacular architecture that has been made comfortable and gracious for modern travelers. I hope to come back to it.
Lovely home. Beautiful view of downtown LA and the surrounding mountain. Nice decoration with the modern feel. The house was quiet and peaceful. Love the outdoor hot tub with the view and the pool. The biggest plus of this place is the Nespresso machine since I'm a big coffee person. It was great to wake up and enjoyed a good cup of coffee with a beautiful view of LA.
A nice mid century modern architecture home with contemporary interior design. Enjoyed waking up in the morning with a view of beautiful horizon during sunrise from the bedroom. And the bed is very comfy. Incredible view of Downtown LA at night. I love the cute little bar area next to the fireplace. Heated pool is perfect for winter stay in LA. Beautiful garden. Great morning hike at the park nearby. It was a nice peaceful stay at this awesome home.
This mid century home has been treated with lots of TLC. The home's interior has a cool/comfortable vibe.
The outdoor gardens are amazing and the little wooden benches scattered along the pathways were just enchanting. It was total tranquility sitting there in the afternoon sun with LA laid out below. Spectacular views after dark, too. Total peace = gardens at LA Oasis.
It was too cold over Christmas to actually use the pool, but it sure was pretty to look at. The pool can be heated, we were just too wimpy to swim.
The house was convenient for lunches around Beverly Hills. Several evenings we cooked dinner back at home. The dining table is really beautiful and made a comfortable place to break bread. The outdoor gas grill made cooking easy.
Brian was a pleasure to work with. He made us feel totally welcome when we met him.
What a wonderful vacation we had in L.A. Brian has turned his home into something really special. It's a mix of old and new. Very contemporary and pleasing inside and out. It has floor to ceiling windows with views of downtown L.A. and is sitting in a park. Brian's has also done a lot of landscaping setting his house out from all the rest. Loved having a outdoor shower, pool and hot tub. We have rented many vacation homes over the years but this one stands out to me. Can't wait to come back again! Thanks Brian!!
