Casa de la Puerta Rosa, located in the historic downtown district of San Miguel de Allende, was completely remodeled in 2007, and is light, bright & airy with skylights, French doors, and a rooftop terrace. The pink door enters onto the downstairs hall where the two bedrooms, separated by the office with a daybed, a full bath, laundry area are located. Up one flight you'll find an open floor plan with kitchen, dining and living areas, and the second full bath, french doors overlooking the privada. On the third level is the rooftop terrace, the perfect spot for relaxing on the chaise lounge for two to read or nap. Many plants grow there happily, and the ornate garden chairs offer the perfect cocktail setting for your guests. The house has painted concrete floors, custom made furniture and lots of good local art, including a very large new painting by local artist Mary Calderoni.
You will want to walk to favorite nearby haunts. My favorites:
The Jardin, the main plaza, a lush garden located across the street from La Parrochia, the world famous San Miguel church. Spend a few hours in and around the Jardin shopping, and just sitting in an outdoor cafe sipping a latte and watching the ever-changing scene. Families gather to meet, children to play, dancers to dance, musicians to play in the bandstand, and of course, the Mariachis play for a price. There are nightly 'light shows' with films projected onto La Parrochia walls for a dazzling display of color and light
La Biblioteca (library) is a gathering place for locals, ex-pats included, and you will find a lovely cafe in the atrium. Sundays people gather to board buses to the weekly Home & Garden tours taking visitors to special private homes to get an inside peak.
La Aurora, the old cotton mill, re-born as a center for upscale shops for home furnishings and art, art studios where you may meet the painter at work, jewelry studios, art galleries and cafes make it easy to spend a day there.
Jazz, theater and chamber music abound, and there is always a concert performance available. Watch the local English speaking newspaper, Attencion, which you can buy Fridays in the Jardin. The calender gives all the information for events morning to night every day. If you want to take salsa dancing lessons they are available every night. I like to go to St. Paul's Episcopal Church for their concerts on weekends.
There is a bbq on the rooftop terrace for those times when preparing a meal at home sounds good, or Maria, the sweet maid who lives just across the privada, will prepare simple Mexican meals for you for $15. per meal, including preparation and delivery to the house. Maria doesn't speak English but her beautiful smile makes up for it and hand signals work too!

I live in another beautiful place in the world, the Napa Valley, in Calistoga, a small 'down-home' little village. I am a Realtor, and I list and sell properties all over the Napa Valley. I'm single, and my pooch, Tommy and I are great pals.
From a full-time resident of San Miguel de Allende: 'It feels like a healing place here. The sunsets, the calmness, the sense of re-experiencing your whole life as the days roll out. I remember very distinctly the first time I went to San Miguel and walked into the plaza. Doves are flying around and the sun is going down in great golden swaths and kids are laughing and church bells are ringing and a mariachi band is playing and people are dancing and I'm thinking, 'There's another dimension to life'...I burst into tears, was so beautiful.'
A lovely description of how hard this place hits most first-time visitors.
It's a unique benefit just being able to spend time in San Miguel de Allende!
