Beautiful ceilings and good location but quite disappointing in many respects
The flat was in a very good location and did indeed have beautiful ceilings.
But the flat had very little natural light, was dark and cold. There was no helpful "instructional or how-to-use guide" (i.e., how to use TV/Sky, thermostat, etc.) for the flat for us to refer to and this is something we believe is crucial for every rental to make available to their renters. There was only a toaster oven and a microwave, no full oven. Many of kitchen utensils in the drawers were unclean and needed to be washed. The utensil drawers themselves and cupboards needed to be cleaned and better maintained. It felt like only the bare minimum was being provided in the kitchen and bathrooms compared with other vacation rental flats where we have stayed. At a minimum, a good vacation rental should have a few basic items such as one roll of paper towels, a few paper serviettes, salt, pepper, sugar, dish soap, new, clean washing sponges and a little laundry soap. There was a hair dryer but it didn't work.
The corkscrew (the one rather critical item when one is on holiday in Italy and all set to enjoy a wonderful bottle of wine with dinner) was broken and completely unusable. Although we contacted the property manager the first night to ask they replace the corkscrew, they never did during our three nights stay. They said prior renters do not leave the flat in good condition when they leave but we think the responsibility lies with their cleaning service and it does not do a better job cleaning and maintaining the flat. For the rate we paid, the very least a renter should be able to have at their disposal is a working corkscrew and a clean kitchen.
We were also very cold in the flat during our entire stay. For some reason, all the thermostats in the flat had signs taped to them stating not to touch or change the settings. Since we had no instructions on how to turn on the heat, we resorted to taking comforters from the beds we weren't using to add to the beds or to even be able to just sit in the living room.
Overall, we had a less than comfortable stay and attention to the above items would have made our stay more than satisfactory.
Owner's Response: I am very sorry to read these words because every time me and my new collegue Annarita try to organize the reception of guests better as we can. I cannot deny the forgetfulness about the corkscrew broken, but having never received complaints about everything else that is mentioned, it was natural to think that everything was all right. I always pray guests to let me know when something is wrong because I have the ability to send technicians, plumbers and especially cleaners repair the damage at no additional cost. If my collegue Annarital who checked guests did not say it, I will correct her error too.
As for soaps, toilet paper, we are providing the bare essentials, then customers will be to provide for themselves at the supermarket around the corner of the building.
This is a unique and charming apartment, which needs a lot of attention and if by chance we lose in the most banal things, customers are the first that have to warn us, only they must do so during their stay, not after.
