My background is in architecture, graphic design and marketing services. I am semi-retired but still consult. My wife Keri was once an active partner and ran our Interior Design Studio but now writes and teaches in full time ministry.
Our firm helped shape many landmark projects mostly here in the Southeast but also in other major markets within the United States and a few here and there in Europe and the Middle East.
Our cottage is not a reflection of our commercial real estate work but more a reflection of our desire to have a comfortable yet tasteful and simple place for relaxation and...a place for the kids to play and enjoy themselves while they make memories for later... and happily we get to watch.
I love to draw and paint so if you stay at the cottage you will find several originals on the walls. Most of which are of Lake Burton and the beautiful mahogany boats that live here.
Bob Allen purchased this cottage in 1982
Lake Burton is one of the most beautiful lakes in the region. The water is clear and the water level hasn't varied 6 inches all summer.
On first sight Lake Burton reminded me of the lakes in the Ozarks where I used to fish with my Grandpa more than a half century ago. My grandchildren and now my Great-grandson are set to have a lifetime of memories of their own.
We just started sharing our cottage in 2006 when we listed it with VRBO but we have owned it for over 30 years. With the most recent renovation completed in the summer of 2006, it remains our family's favorite place in the world.
We have been fortunate to share our cottage with some of the most wonderful people and by the way they take care of our cottage I assume they must love it as much as we do.
After our first two years at Lake Burton we looked all over the lake trying to find just the right house and location. After two years of looking we decided we already had everything we were looking for. So we decided to renovate, expand and stay where we were. We made it fit our family. We had an almost flat piece property safely tucked back in a cove with a wonderful view. We found out the combination was hard to find on Lake Burton.
Our location is close to Atlanta and only a 15 minute drive from Clayton. The Free boat ramp provided by Georgia Power is just a short walk from the cottage. And... most importantly we are tucked away and distant from major boat and the water ski traffic.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this very well maintained vacation home on Lake Burton. The cottage is located on a beautiful section of Murray Cove with great access to the lakes points of interest. The owner was very easy to work with and provided us with timely feedback to our questions. We appreciated his guidance and recommendations for boat rental, restaurants and nearby hiking trails. The listing photos and property description accurately reflects the property's appearance, condition and lakeside amenities. When we next return to Lake Burton we will look to rent this property again.
Such a delight! This lovely home, filled with the owner's artwork and neat antiques, is perfect. It is on a peaceful cove with a long view of Lake Burton, which, by the way, is the best lake in Georgia. The owners are great to work with. All home information and the directions were precise and detailed. I loved this special place and we did not want to leave. We will be back! ( I forgot, this home was immaculate! ) ( One more thing: the view from the master bedroom is amazing...what a wonderful way to start the day... )
We arrived with friends for a 3 night 4 day stay and were very impressed with this home. The location and views are outstanding! The house is perfectly decorated and has “ALL” the needed amenities you will need. The owners description and pictures were a perfect representation. The owner’s personal touches tell you right off this is a home and not just a rental. Plenty of dock space for parking the jet skis and a pontoon boat. Be sure to hang up the hammock, but be careful because you will fall asleep under the shade trees and great view of lake and mountains. The owner was great to communicate with. There will be no second guessing on this wonderful Lake Burton property.
We enjoyed our w/e so much. The cottage was perfect for the 4 of us...my husband & I and our son & his friend. The cottage is so relaxing & easy to get used to! We enjoyed grilling the 1st 2 nights, eating on the porch with the cool breezes coming thru. The boys had their space downstairs and we enjoyed the sitting room upstairs. The patio is nice as well and my husband & boys enjoyed the fishing off the docks. We rented a boat @ LaPrade's on Memorial Day and enjoyed a quiet morning on the Lake taking it all in. We ate in Clayton @ the Universal Joint one evening and had lunch @ the Marina. So much to do if you want to. Also enjoyed the local Farmer's market. Bob made it easy to find the cottage and we loved sharing their home away from home. We look forward to our next stay!
We had a wonderful fall weekend at this picturesque lake house. The
cottage is immaculate with lovely decor that greatly compliments this
tranquil setting. There are many darling antiques and original artwork
in the house. The master suite has a breathtaking view of the lake. A
spacious screened in porch allows the visitor to watch the changing
moods and lighting of the lake. The lake house is well equipped with
all of the needed comforts. The kitchen is fully stocked with a
compliment of amenities needed to prepare any meal. The beds were very
comfortable and the linens are well stocked.
There is much to do in the immediate area. We rented a boat and enjoyed
the extensive and gorgeous lake. There was a trip to the state park to
take in a spectacular waterfall. We dined at several restaurants in the
area that had delicious cuisine and nice wine selections. We highly
recommend The Allen Cottage for a lovely vacation. This getaway spot is
truly a gem. You will leave with special memories of the breathtaking
scenery and feelings of tranquility from your intimate contact with
We only have great things to say about our experience at Lake Burton. This house was perfect for us. Very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. We had a blast during our stay. We saw a bear! (mountain roadside) Caught many fish, rented a jet ski and a ski boat and enjoyed the canoe. I highly recommend this cottage to families. Very clean and comfortable.
If you are looking for a great place to eat while at the Lake I can also recommend The Chophouse at LaPrade Marina. The food was out of this world! We did not know much about local restaurants and decided to try it. You will not be disappointed. To sum it up, all was wonderful and the cottage owner was very helpful and a pleasure to work with.
Lake Burtonl Country Club is near by for guest of members.
White Water Rafting on the Chatooga River up to class four.
Highlands N.C. is a great side trip (Approximately 45 min.) for Shopping, Galleries and Lunch or Dinner.
Many beautiful waterfalls are in the area. Some require a hike to reach.
