"SLICE OF LIFE" GREAT VIEW, GREAT DEAL!

My husband and I got back from our trip a few days ago and we are eager to return! This was our first time to the Caribbean and the Slice of Life was a perfect place to stay. John was very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. The apartment has everything you would need in the kitchen, a lovely bathroom (which really should be highlighted in the pictures because it is very unique!), a cozy living room and a nice sized bedroom. There are plenty of travel books for your use to help you navigate around the island and a few menus to help you pick a dinner place. Having been provided beach towels, chairs, and coolers was great too - gave us a few less things to pack. The only thing we would change (and it wasn't that big of a deal for us) would be to add some blinds. We made it work just fine and now that we think about it, having them may have restricted the views a bit.

We cannot wait to return and will probably look up John and the Slice of Life again. (John - kindly tell Squeaky we said goodbye. We didn't see him before we took off and feel terrible. He became a great friend and we'd hate to hurt his feelings.) :)

Well built, nicely furnished vacation home. Very exciting drive up the hills to arrive here. Fitz built this place, and it is very well done. Yes, he lives upstairs; however, you won't know it between the insulated walls and ceiling and his own busy schedule. In addition, he was very helpful in guiding us to destinations for beach play, snorkeling, and dining. This very comfortable, clean home is well situated on the hill for a breeze to blow through; for lounging in the hammock; playing cards or reading on the deck, and more. Yes, those photos are exactly what you see when you are there! We used the backpack chairs to carry our gear from the Jeep to the beach. St. John (and all the VI) are pro-eco communities that catch rain and filter it. We have stayed on other islands and the water was not palatable; however, the water at Slice of Life was great tasting. It is encouraged, island wide, to conserve water by minimal flushing and brief showering, and to keep the septic safe by not flushing paper. We were happy to help! St. John is not a party island, and the residents (and guests) usually follow the sun with activity. You will be serenaded by multitudes of birds (yes, some roosters, too), the bray of donkeys, the call of goats and sheep, and will likely see the deer that walk up the driveway each morning. As a very light sleeper, I was worried about staying awake, but the bed is so comfortable, and the activites are so fun, that I fell asleep quickly each night. We will be returning to Slice of Life! Between the great accomodations and the excellent host, it is at the top of our VRBO experiences! Thanks Fitz!!

The owner met us as we had planned in Coral Bay and we followed to the house. The first floor is the apartment and is just like the pictures. The view was nice and right by the deck we watched Humming birds on the flowers in front of us with Coral bay as a background. The breeze kept the temperature pleasant. We did run the ceiling fans and were comfortable.
We really enjoyed the full kitchen and cooking for ourselves. I took the advice of another review and the owner and bought groceries on St Thomas before getting the car ferry to St John. The grocery store Plaza Extra wasn't too hard to find but you will need directions. The prices were an eye opener but we still saved a lot by doing our own. There is even Tupperware in the apartment that we used for lunches at the beach. The place was equipped for tourists like us.
Squeaky the cat would come and say Hi daily. A quick pet is usually all she wanted then she would disappear.
The owner was very respectful of our privacy and left us alone unless I asked questions.
We enjoyed the island noises. At night the Coqui frogs serenaded us and in the morning it was the sound of little birds.
St John is known for steep roads and I was on some doozies exploring but this apartment isn't bad to get to. Cruz Bay is about a 20 minute drive. Go to High Tide in Cruz Bay and watch a sunset. The food looked very good there as well.
Overall a good vacation and this place and how the owner takes care of business was a big piece of that puzzle.
