2 Bedrooms,1 Full Bathrooms,living room,Kitchen,Washer Dryer, Sleeps 6,RV hookup

Experience the authenticity of Mammaw and Pappaw Darnell’s home place ½ miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway and across the street from the Raccoon Holler Campground lake. The beautiful lake is right in front of the home place. Used to about 5 years ago, there was no water or bathroom in this cabin. After Mammaw passed away, it was our dream to restore the home and leave the rooms as Mammaw had them in order to share the love of the cabin with others. Now complete with granite counter tops, hardwood floors, and whirlpool tub with it has all the modern day luxuries. You will really enjoy your time here – two bedrooms (i.e., three full beds as two are upstairs in one room), full bathtub, separate shower, washer dryer, dishwasher microwave, hardwood floors, natural beams etched with pine hardwood to provide the rustic cabin feel yet with the modern day appliances of comfort including flat screen cable television.

This property also has RV hookup. If you have RV, you can connect it all here

Family reunion/Wedding

We stayed the last weekend in March as we were in for a wedding. Denver and Wanda are wonderful. They checked on us to make sure we didn't need anything and we didn't. The cabin is well stocked and included a washer and dryer. We brought our fur baby and he had a wonderful time so we were very thankful that they accommodate pets. The cabin is absolutely beautiful and the view of the little lake out front is awesome. We would definitely recommend this cabin and will stay again if y'all let us come back. Y'all have done a wonderful job renovating this place. We didn't use the upstairs but there is definitely room for several more people with the size of the bedroom up there. We wished the weather had cooperated a little more but we enjoyed the wedding and visiting with our family. Thank you again for a wonderful time and a wonderful cabin to stay in and thank you from Cooper. He says he love yall.

We enjoyed our mini-vacation at the Raccoon Holler Lodge. It was a easy to find, clean, comfortable, and fairly well appointed. A few of the listed features didn't work very well - or at all - but nothing that would ruin our weekend. The WiFi would never let me connect to the internet, the DVD play was broken, and we were unable to get the gas fireplace lit. The last was the most disappointing, but again we found way to say warm :)... Nice people and a nice place. We might find ourselves at Raccoon Holler again one day...

Owner's Response: I am sorry that these things were overlooked. I offer you a discount on your next getaway if your return equivalent to a nights free stay. For the internet, if this happens, always turn on and back off and the connection works, at least it has for every guest that has been there. I had it checked to confirm and just texted the renter there now and verified that the internet worked and it did. She noted that she had to switch in and reboot it. For the gas logs, the pilot went out. So that this does not happen again, I have had a thermostat installed. As for the DVD, I'm looking into that and was not aware it was there or advertised, again I am sorry for that. Thank you for being understanding guests and I hope you indeed return again. I was under the impression that the gas logs got fixed during your stay. I can promise you that the new has solved the gas log problem once and for all. Everyone loves the logs and that is what helps make the stay magical. Thank you for the honest feedback which I have seen to all the items with the DVD being the next and only thing not rectified. Happy new year. I really invite you back to the holler for working logs and internet. Thank you for the honest feedback. Sincerely, Denver

My husband and I booked the cabin for a long weekend, it rained nearly the entire time but we didn't mind. The cabin was just as the pictures show and it's very warm and comfortable, especially the bed it's fantastic. I read the previous reviews just before our arrival... we didn't have any issues what so ever. Everything was clean and worked as it should, we used the fireplace all weekend. The owner was very friendly and easy to contact. As stated in other reviews the kitchen is fully stocked, pots, pans, silverware, plates, anything you can think of... even bakeware and some spices! I was a little concerned about the road in the pictures, but don't be! I think I saw maybe 4 cars pass in the 4 days we stayed! It's very private and quiet, the lake is gorgeous, and we took advantage of some of the card games and other games while there. It's right near the blue ridge parkway and what an amazing drive, lots of parks for hiking, canoeing etc. We had such a great time, will be booking again in the future. Oh and we stopped by Mountain Aire (seafood and steaks) restaurant down the road, calabash shrimp was really tasty. :)

Thank you for renting your lovely cabin in Jefferson. We enjoyed our stay very much. It was exactly as described and the decor was lovely. Great renovations and very comfortable bed. Especially enjoyed the TV in the Master Bedroom - a special treat. We highly recommend the place to anyone who enjoys serenity but with close proximity to the highway and places of interest such as Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk.

Just As Described...but...

Our feelings on our visit to this cabin at Raccoon Holler, North Carolina are mixed. The cabin itself was exactly as described. The cabin is a beautifully renovated "old home place,” located just yards from the Blue Ridge Parkway and is across a road from a beautiful and idyllic North Carolina lake. The home was obviously recently redone with beautiful pine paneling and hardwood floors, marble counter tops, and new, top-end appliances. It is thoroughly stocked with all the kitchen amenities any visitor could want. The cabin is physically located within easy driving distance of the many wonderful attractions available to visitors in Ashe County, NC, and the nightly accommodation charge was more than competitive with other cabins in the area.

Our mixed feelings on our stay at this cabin stem from the lack of cleanliness we found on our arrival. We had arranged with the owner to have the cabin cleaned prior to our arrival and also on our departure, and we paid an extra cleaning fee to have this done. The cleaning had been done prior to our arrival as we requested, however the cabin was not clean by any normal standard. We spent our first evening re-cleaning the kitchen, including the stove, sink, counters, island, and coffee pot, before we felt comfortable using them. They were greasy and not up to any standard, even minimal ones. We also had to clean the bathroom and felt compelled to wash the towels and linens. The two rugs in the bathroom were beyond our capability to clean, so we avoided them. A second issue was safety. We found that there were numerous light fixtures with either burned out bulbs or they had no bulbs in them, including two of the outside porch lights. More important, there was a disabled smoke detector in the master bedroom. The railing leading to the upstairs was loose and there were no safety markings on the stair treads, which invited a fall (which almost happened) when using the stairs. Further, the gas heater in the living room was inoperable, which, considering the lack of a smoke detector, was probably a good thing.

The owner was accessible by email. We identified the above cleanliness problems to him and he offered to “make it right” with a dinner for two at local upper-end restaurants. We did not accept his offer, instead asking only that he refund the cleaning fee. He agreed to do this, however we are still waiting for him to contact us with his refund.

We would not recommend this property to anyone else.
Owner's Response: Thank you greatly for your constructive feedback on the clean issues which I have done my best to address. I have mailed a 50 rebate which is 20 percent more than asked. I also offered a 20 percent discount if you wish to return in the future. In no way, did this posting impact my response. Since I live in Florida, my timeliness was compromised.

The reason for sharing the cabin with the world was to spread the love that I felt when staying with my grandparents in Raccoon Holler as a young boy in this little space of heaven on Earth. Though my mammaw had no bathroom or water in the home, she kept her house impeccably and she too would want me to take care of these items and to do what I can to insure that your experience is forever memorable in a positive view. Thank you for your feedback and for your patronage in staying at Raccoon Holler. This helps me to continue to improve my operation in order to enhance the experiences of the many travelers that stay here, many of whom have returned four times in the past two years. Thank you again for your helpful feedback.

I must say that I can recommend a weekend stay at Raccoon Holler to everyone on the planet. Unfortunately, there will be times where expectations will be compromised. I am sorry that this happened in your case but I do hope you return to the cabin. When this happens the best I can do is try to recover in a responsive and friendly matter while using the feedback to improve the operation in the future.

Sincerely,
Denver, Owner Raccoon Holler Cabin
