A bit of history:
Why you might ask did we call our home la Maison des Balais? Simply because the house was for many years a small broom factory. Built in the 1850s by local pottery tycoon Job Clerc, our home initially served as workers quarters. During the early 20th century the house was occupied for a time and then became a broom factory. We bought the house in 1997 and did a complete renovation. The living spaces are open, luminous and finished in relaxing earth tones. The high ceilings are finished in a local style called «voutins» or scalloped form. Floors are tiled except on the second level where we opted for oak. In summer the house stays relatively cool since it is very well insulated and all windows are double-glazed. If the weather turns chilly, our gas furnace will keep everything nice and warm.
The garden was completely landscaped recently. A stone paved area next to the house leads to a grassy area ideal for relaxing. A vegetable garden and shed are at the far end of the yard.

Uzes and Uzege, a great part of Provence:
Uzes, the wonderfully preserved medieval town just 4 km from St. Quentin is a prime destination for tourists from all over the world. The narrow, cobble stoned streets and fine architecture make for a special place. In the heart of old Uzes, the Place aux Herbes is the site of the weekly Wednesday and Saturday markets. The Saturday market is especially colourful and one of the best markets in all of France. A wonderful spot to soak up some sun while sharing some excellent Uzes country wines, local Picholine olives and goat cheese with friends. The area boasts several excellent wineries and olive oil producers. A list of addresses is available for guests to consult.
Uzes and the area surrounding the town was the first and last Duchy of France: a separate state for over 700 years. Today you can visit the Duke's castle and climb the tower for a splendid view of the town. Uzes boasts numerous cafés, several excellent restaurants and an art cinema showing many English language films.

There are several very good golf links within an hours drive of the village.
