Why Susan chose Puerto Vallarta

We chose Casita Dorada as our house because it is between civilization and nature. We wanted a spot that was away from the rush of PV and Northshore but close enough to all amenities, attractions , beach, mountains and authentic Mexican village life. We like the independent living areas in the house, so we can invite friends and still enjoy privacy.

What makes this villa unique

We enjoy walking to the beach and spending the day swimming and lounging, playing tennis, horseback riding, river and jungle hikes, scuba diving/snorkeling ,

staying at home by the pool with a nice cool drink and watching the parrots and amazing

array of birds on the trees in front of the

deck. Quiet nights watching stars on the terrace or fun nights down in the village restaurants.

Very Comfortable, well looked after property

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at Casa Dorada and had 3 families stay in the house with a total of 12 people. We had a very positive experience at the house. This house is very well kept, very clean and well maintained. We had absolutely no issues with anything during our 11 day stay. The view from the balcony / pool area is second to none. The walk to the beach, going down, was no issue, coming back up the steep hill was a bit of tiring. However, there were plenty of taxis at the beach and offer the ride up the hill to the house for very reasonable rates. Lucy, our house keeper, did an absolutely fantastic job in keeping the house in tip top shape!! We had a wonderful time and I would not hesitate to recommend this house to anyone.

Exceptional Place!

  • 5 of 5

Six of us stayed there and we all agreed one of the nicest places we have ever stayed.

Wonderful pool with views of the ocean and mountains. Short walk to the beach where Tony happily set up chairs and tables for us and served us drinks. Restaurants in the area were great and easy to get to. We will be back!

Thanksgiving in Mexico

  • 5 of 5

I was lucky enough to be in a large group that stayed at Casita Dorado over the Thanksgiving holiday. First, the pictures of the site are accurate but don't really show the scale of the place. 4.5 levels spilling down the side of the mountain with the jungle wrapped around it, opening up to the view of the sky and bay. Stunning.

We made full use of the kitchens, shopping in the village for staples. The little bodega is well stocked and the fruit is amazing. Across the street we could get fresh corn tortillas and a block down the "chicken man" grills whole, butterflied chicken daily. We actually got a small turkey and had him grill it for us for thanksgiving. There are also several restaurants and tequila vendors in the village proper. The tequila tour got more amusing as we went along. :)

The beautiful beach is just down the hill. It is very walkable (going down), but it pays to have a car coming back up. At least for me, but I'm lazy. Food and drinks are brought to you as you sit under umbrellas and watch the ocean and people. You can even get a massage in one secluded corner of the beach, which I took advantage of. Massage, ocean breeze, sound of the waves, pretty cool.

The villa is about 15 minutes, maybe less, from Puerto Vallarta. We took a cab or drove in 4 or 5 times to shop, eat, etc. The restaurants were great. Everywhere I went I had the regional specialty, whole grilled fish with garlic. The best version I personally had was at Joe Jack's Fish Shack.

If this review sounds a little food-centric, it's because it is. I ate so well. Fresh seafood everywhere. Except for the chicken from the village I ate fish and shrimp the entire stay. We drove 10 minutes down the road to a fishing village and got fresh fish coming in on the boats. A friend and I took a cooking class that was recommended by our host where we briefly took over a bakery to make our own bread before learning to create a 4 course Mexican meal. One evening we had a local caterer come in and grill fresh fish kabobs over a hardwood charcoal fire. We even visited a tiny local cheese maker and got to watch as they made fresh queso. We toured the botanical garden where we saw coffee, vanilla, and cocoa on the bush, vine, and tree.

Of course the less foody people had fun too, renting a boat for a day to go to private beaches, ziplining, etc. I can wholeheartedly recommend both the venue and the experience.

Living in the canopy!

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic vacation stay; we could have happily spent 24 hours a day there(but did think we ought to see some sights while we were in the area.) The property perches high above the bay and is surrounded by nature - we woke to the sound of birds each morning and watched them nesting a few yards away. We ate breakfast on the patio overlooking the bay below. Sometimes we would start the day with a swim in the patio level pool. The villa and its furnishings reflect the culture, climate and beauty of the area. A fabulous vacation could be had without ever leaving the property. When we did go out, each excursion was a pleasure - the botanical gardens, the Night of the Iguana beachwalk, the restaurants in Mismaloya (Tony's) and Puerto Vallarta (River Cafe), the visit to Boca de Tomatlan, where we ate at an imformal grill on the beach, walking through Old Town in Puerto Vallarta. I can't wait to return.

Heavenly

  • 5 of 5

This vacation was awesome. The house is so relaxing and huge. We were able to have a private retreat with 9 friends and have lots of privacy. The were many fine details to the house that made the gathering fun. Several alcoves with cushions for us to visit with each other, a pool, a workout room, and a sports court. The decorations were tasteful and appropriate for our festive mood. The kitchen is huge. The photo from the master bedroom matched the property description, I thought it was a stock photo but boy was I wrong.

We enjoyed the pool and the marvelous views. Highlights of the house included a house manager who helped getting local contacts for taxi, snorkel, authentic mexican meal, salsa dance lessons at the house. She was so pleasant and cleaned up everyday.

Walking to the stables for a morning horse ride was an unexpected treat. Going into the forest to the ridges and swimming at a mountain resort with a restaurant, canopy tour, and refreshing waterfalls.

Walking to the beach for a charted snorkel trip was incredible. The guide was able to show us puffer fish, blowfish, starfish, sea cucumber, sea spider, crabs, and sea horses. We also saw jumping dolfins, turtles and rays off the beach.

Everyday started with a wake up call from the canopy birds and light peaking into the house. The evening closed with spectacular views of the ocean.

This was an impressive first trip to Mexico.
