Bonnie and David designed and built this house in 2008, and have lived here since. We love living in Hawaii and the Mountain View area. The climate is cooler and pleasant. I am a carpenter and design and draw house plans. Bonnie works in the social services sector. We enjoy meeting people and are looking forward to having guests in our home.
Our rental is perfectly located, 20 min. from the Volcano National Park and the Kilauea Caldera. 30 min. from Hilo. The second story apt. is 600 sq. ft. with a full kitchen and bath, king bed, twin day bed as well as a spare cot and crib are available. A private lanai over looks the garden and forest. A quiet place to relax after a day of exploring the island. We provide TV, wifi, hot tub, spices and condiments in the kitchen. Our rental is centrally located for exploring the entire east side of the Big Island. Hope to see yo soon Bonnie and David
We have stayed at a lot of homestays over the years but David and Bonnie's place takes 1st place. It is all they say and more. All the details are taken care of and very nicely decorated. We totally enjoyed our stay
My wife and I stayed at this place for 5 nights. Altough a bit far away from Hilo, it is totally worth it. The place is quite big and really nice. David and Bonnie really though of everything to make us feel at home, even to the smallest details. Thanks again!
My husband and I stayed at this property with our 19 month old son. The apartment was beautiful and comfortable, and everything we could want or need was provided. David and Bonnie set up a crib for my son and even baby proofed the apartment before we got there. They were excellent hosts and had lots of information to share with us and gave us advice on where to go. We didn't want to leave, and wished we had booked more time with them. You need to book this place, you will not be disappointed!
We were looking for a nice but reasonable place to stay on our return to the SE side of the island and came across Dave and Bonnie’s listing. They are wonderful people and really made my wife and I feel at home. We’d never tried a VRBO before so this was a venture into unknown territory. Although the pictures are accurate and were what we used to make our decision to stay there (along with the excellent reviews), they do not do this home justice. It is MUCH nicer and more comfortable and well maintained than the pictures even show. They are in a developed area that is far enough off the main highway to be in a completely quiet and natural green setting, yet close enough to easily make short trips to Hilo or the National Park. And the other reviews are correct about how well stocked the home is for making your own meals.
We will definitely stay there again when we return to that part of the Big Island. You can reserve this property with full confidence that you’ll be comfortable and well taken care of.
We had a reservation for a week in Kona but also wanted to explore the eastern side of the island. From previous experience we knew that the drive from Kona to Hilo was just too long to try to see much one day at a time, so we decided to spend 3 days near Volcanoes National Park. I found this VRBO rental, read all the reviews and told my husband I have to see this place for myself. How can one VRBO rental be rated so highly by every single person who stays there? Well, I found out, and you now see my five-star rating. David and Bonnie couldn't have been more hospitable and, even though they live below the rental unit, at no time did we ever feel like we were intruding on their space. The rental unit is beautifully built and decorated! Everything about this place is immaculate, comfortable and inviting. We spent most of one day inside because of fairly heavy rain and it was so beautiful, peaceful and quiet, we really felt at home. Bonnie provides fresh fruit from their beautiful garden-like yard. The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, dishes, condiments which make it easy to prepare a meal or two each day. They also provide a book with menus for many local restaurants, making it easy to find the type of food you want, as well as brochures on local tours and attractions. The location is great, about halfway between Hilo and the park. After driving one afternoon in Hilo, we were so happy to be able to avoid the traffic during our stay. If you want to see the park at night, this is a 15 minute drive there and 15 minutes back. I highly recommend this rental to anyone looking to stay on the eastern side of the island. You definitely will not be disappointed!
This was by far the best VRBO rental that I have stayed in my three years. Bonnie and Dave were great hosts and went far and beyond with their hospitality. The second floor room was extraordinarily clean and beautiful! Every detailed matched the island magic. Dave built the home and you can see every detail that was designed by Bonnie and her artistic nature. After arriving late, they had some chilled papaya in the fridge waiting. I slept peacefully and it was some of the best sleep I have had in months! They had some fresh fruits and banana from their garden. Bonnie and Dave had some maps and directions to my next destination when I checked out! Made my planning so easy! They even gave me some more home grown banana on my road trip to the west side of the island. I will definelty come back again and maybe bring my parents! Go with their recommendation for some great Poke in Hilo! Thank you Bonnie and Dave for a wonderful three days!!!!!
