Cottage: 1 Bedroom + 1 Bath. Near Beaches, sights, shops

This is an intimate cottage for 2 people *only* at all times, with no extra visitors, conveniently located off the main road on the *beach side* between Kawaihae and Waimea Village where it is sunny, warm, arid and comfortable temps for sleeping. It's minutes drive on expansive, ocean-view scenic road to best beaches (Kohala Coast); to village markets; and easy to reach all desired destinations this beautiful island offers. You will live & sleep well with quality furnishings, sumptuous bedding, beach gear and more than just the essential house supplies for your comfort.

RENTAL TERMS / COTTAGE INFO. Photos are accurate; go to our website for more (link below). We'll provide full info *before* you/we agree to reserve; you will get our orientation on location, amenities, cost and easy rental terms. And - we will ask you to identify yourself (both occupants) as part of our reservation process prior to accepting a reservation.

OCCUPANCY (limited): it's a small unit set up for 2 people (only) -- ideal for a quiet couple seeking a peaceful vacation. There is 1 bedroom with shared bed + 1 bathroom (can add one baby --OR-- one small child as extra guest; not a third adult). No extra overnight or day guests...it is not for a larger family or group gathering; groups are unpermitted. Baby equipment is provided but property is not baby / child-proof. The cottage may not be used as a venue for parties or other gatherings - no commercial activity (e.g., no vendor services or selling permitted).

DURATION (limited): month-long stays *not* offered. MINIMUM STAY = 5 nights; we charge only rate + tax / no other fees. (If your dates are taken for H. Kea Cottage, we have another unit, Plumeria, @ $125 p/nt + tax for 5 nt min. for 2 people only - rented separately.)

OFFER: Hale Kea Cottage = 1 bedroom with 1 East. Cal-King bed (shared) + 1 full bathrm. We have another smaller unit "Plumeria" with 1 bedroom w/queen bed + 1 bathroom (shower) for 2 people (only - at all times). The two units are not rented together; can not be combined.

LOCATION: peaceful, convenient - *minutes* to BEST swimming beaches (Kohala Coast) and convenient to popular destinations. This area is a hub of coastal recreation, hiking, history, culture and natural wonders. We're tucked between two villages (Waimea and Kawaihae) and inside a small subdivision (not on Kawaihae Road). Waimea Village is a few miles away (10 minutes drive). The VRBO 'Kamuela-Waimea' headline covers Waimea Village -and also- an expansive area miles around it. The SOUTH KOHALA district is vast and dotted with miles of villages, small residential areas, resorts & beaches; we all share the postal code for 'Kamuela'.

At home here, relax on your sun deck, cook in or out (kitchen or BBQ), quality inventory, free laundry machines, laptops and kayaks among many amenities. Pick up fresh-caught, cleaned fish at the nearby fish monger down the road. Feast on grass-fed beef and lamb off your BBQ. Shop in our 3 farmers' markets.

OUR PRICE: (No month rate = no month stays.) We charge only rate + tax for max. 2 adults (no cleaning, damage fees). Fee for 1 *small* child guest is age specific-- we do not charge for all children - tell us the child's age for an accurate quote.

*DISCOUNT* qualifies for HALE KEA from 7+ nights (ex. major holidays). No special rate for residents = everyone is *treated equal* for rates and *qualified* discounts.

Our HALE KEA accommodation: is 'down the hill' from Waimea Village, on the beach side commonly called the “dry side" of Kamuela. Why should you know this? Climate differs.

CLIMATE: there is a climate and weather pattern difference just a few miles away from Waimea Village. Our location's weather is characterized by consistently warmer, dryer (low rain level) and sunnier, all year. You will experience the difference from Waimea Village.

It's 40 minutes to Kailua Kona, and 60 miles to Hilo, from where it's just 26 miles more to Volcano park!

COMFORT LEVEL: Our place is lovingly maintained, updated, clean, and 100% owner-managed for your self-catered, independent vacation. It's a peaceful, tropical setting. The volcano's pollution common to other parts of the island does *not* reach us, here. We settled in Hawaii because it's a peaceful place where the people are friendly, the sun shines, the ocean is an important part of the lifestyle and culture, and people feel good here. Our district, South Kohala, has the most consistently warm, rainless and sunny days. We love being close to the best beaches the island offers minutes away, the rich local history, sea life, the music, hula, music festivals year round, and sharing it with you.

What makes this cottage unique

This scenic area is convenient to all destinations; we're situated in pleasant surroundings amid nice homes and well-kept, flowering gardens. It's a quiet place by day, for relaxing in a comfortably warm and arid climate, and by night for sleeping well and undisturbed in a cool climate without the need for air conditioning. Properties here are from 1/3 to 1/2 acre each. This is not a 'congested' neighborhood. It's spacious, clean, neat {no junked homes}, pretty and friendly. Homes are set well apart and heavily landscaped for privacy. [Look at the photos, below.] One can start the day with a morning walk in our traffic-free neighborhood before heading out for a day of relaxing at the beach or a 'Big Island' adventure. Some guests take a morning walk, go for a dip in the ocean afterwards, just down the road, then return to shower and head out for more to experience.

Great place to kick back an relax

My wife and I just finished a two-week stay in Hale Kea. This is a great place to get away from the tourist bustle and experience what it's like living in a quiet neighborhood on the dry side of Waimea. The lanai is surrounded by flowering plants that afford complete privacy, yet the mountside with, often, clouds moving across the upper elevation is visible above one end. In the evening you can hear cows lowing and the occasional bray of a wild donkey in the distance. A bird feeder attracts a multitude of java sparrows--very entertaining. Some nice beaches, both for snorkeling and sunbathing are 7-10 miles away. We enjoyed the beach at Mauna Kea resort most--many different kinds of coral out a ways. We saw a large ray, large turtle, crab, eels and many reef fish there.

Pally and Annette are great hosts. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and then some. Annette sent us an email with details on snorkeling spots, gave us some very good suggestions on places to eat--try the pizza place in Kapaau--and printed out our boarding passes for us when we were ready to leave. All in all, an A+ experience. We would not hesitate to recommend to friends.

We just love this place!!!!

My husband and I just love this place! This is our 2nd year to stay here and we plan to return next year too. Its conveniently located between Waimea and the beach. This cottage is so well organized and clean and aesthetically pleasing. Its comfortable to sleep at night for the evenings are cool. There is a lovely deck where we ate all of our meals. And the best part are the delightful hosts who tell you about wonderful places to go that you might not find out about otherwise and they are so quick to answer questions.

Perfect place on Big Island

If you are looking for a comfortable, fully furnished, super clean place to call home for a few days, this is it. The cottage is very well located, a few minutes from all the nice beaches and other places of interest such as Mauna Kea and Kona. It is located in a residential area so it is quiet and very safe. We have rented many different places in different countries but this one was different. Annette will go out of her way to make sure you feel at home. I have never seen such a well stocked rental. You have everything you need and more. The kitchen is fully equipped for real. Nothing was missing, it was even more than what I have at home. There was an enormous amount of information on what to do and where to go and if that was not enough, Annette & Pally will be more than happy to help you find the spot you are looking for. But be carefull, your standards are going to be very high after staying at the Hale Kea cottage.

Perfect Getaway

We recently spent two wonderful weeks in Hale Kea returning home with many wonderful memories of our stay with Annette and Pally. Hale Kea is exactly as depicted in the photos and having traveled extensively we can state with total conviction that we have never stayed in a self catering facility that was so well equipped - our hosts have thought of absolutely everything to ensure their guests enjoy a perfect vacation. There is so much to enjoy on the "Big Island" - beaches with snorkeling are close at hand, hiking( our passion) offers many, many choices; historical places of interest and Volcano National Park, all of which combined to provide many enjoyable memories.

We would like to return to the Island and would again stay at Hale Kea to renew our acquaintance with such gracious hosts - thank you for waiting up to welcome us when we arrived after midnight (delayed flight) - hopefully on our next visit we will arrive a bit earlier! We would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely cottage to friends and family.

Perfect vacation cottage!

We had an absolutely wonderful time! Everything was great, with such thoughtful touches from the super comfortable bed to the night I was up late reading …and wished for a nice, warm throw…and there was one draped over the end of the couch! Having the washer & dryer is so convenient. And, we just loved feeding all the tiny finches (birds) --- watching them was a blast, on the deck. The location is perfect for beaches and for visiting the other side of the island, and there is shopping and restaurants close by. It was a wonderful setting for an unforgettable vacation!

Our other suite (Plumeria) has Queen size bed w/ firm to soft adjustments + 3 inches of gel-memory topper = extra comfort. Child Bed (1) is not a traditional 'child bed' but a very thick, light weight Japanese futon that folds up to store away. It serves as an extra bed when a child wants to sleep in the master bedroom but not in parent's bed. Please request it in advance. We have everything for the baby: Crib (1), Maclaren Stroller / Pottery Barn Crib-Co Sleeper / Graco High Chair /; Cosco Play Pen / Fisher Price Infant Swing / potty; There are beach toys.
