Utah Beach & Regional Park: Set in Normandy within Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectare with 144 villages and towns within the Park. WW2 Utah Beach the Invasion beach, located less than 10 minutes from us, is a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres.
The area is stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing.
This coast being slightly wilder than the west coast is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty.
This area in Normandy is also famous for it’s horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. On Utah Beach world class Trotting Horses are trained everyday on the beach.
The beaches and seafood: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachters, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war Normandy Landing Beaches, 101st Airborne or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do!
Yet in the summer the beaches are paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or beach combing, shell fish gathering for your supper when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded. With the bird sanctuary on Utah Beach there is an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of seals.
Huge mussels and oysters beds with the produce destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally
Cycling & Walking & Invasion Beaches: We are set in the heart of the Normandy D Day Invasion beaches with WW2 Utah Beach 10 minutes away, Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan both 8 kms from us & as we are 2 minutes from N13 we are in an ideal location for easy access to go sight seeing, war tours etc.
Bayeux, Mont St Michel are just short drives away, it is even possible to go to Jersey for the day from here!
Animals - We're know as Arc de Noah here in our village! we have 2 Llamas, 3 Alpacas, a kune kune pet pigs, 2 very friendly goats, 2 sheep, lots and lots of bantam & silkie chickens all at liberty, 1 goose, 2 turkeys, 3 young Jack Russell's that live for visitors! 8 rescue cats.
Cycling or walking holidays...1,000 km of trails for cycling with one of the 22km routes starting outside our gate!
If you like local produce then there are many farms open to the general public, where you can see the produce being made and buy some to take home. It's possible to have tours round the Camembert factories.
We were working & living just outside London before taking the decision to leave our careers take the plunge & move here to Normandy in 2001, we had no plans to start vacation rentals...it just sort of happened! For me it is the answer to my dreams as I had over 15 years in the Hotel & Catering Industry training as a Hotel Manager...I always yearned for my own hotel...so this is as good as it gets! Almost 13 years later we are thoroughly enjoying running our business,we are passionate about this hidden area of France and offer more than just a vacation rental, we are more than happy to share with you where to go, what to see, how to get there, we've struck a deal with a local dealership to hire cars - we have devised a WW2 tour which we will give you at no charge and we'll make reservations for you at restaurants. We have 4 rental vacation properties, our beach house on Utah Beach which is 10 minutes away from where we are based, has 4,bedrooms & 3 bathrooms with sea views and direct access onto the WW2 Invasion Beach Utah Beach Normandy, in the village of Sainte Marie du Mont the 1st village liberated (Band of Brothers) right opposite the church we have a lovely 2 bedroom stone town house... then, here where we live we have our 2 couples only units on our little 'farm' where we have 4 dogs, 8 cats, (all rescues), 2 Llamas, 3 Alpacas, 2 sheep, 2 goats, a kune kune pig, chickens & our old faithful goose now 10 years old... We give great value, secure parking as many DVD's as you want, TV, dogs to play with, books to read and we can give masses of tips re the area...as I say we're not just a rental!
Tansy Forster purchased this cottage in 2004
Our 1st farmhouse renovation project took 2 years and was a lovely house however was very isolated so we were not discovering the French life we wanted to, plus we kept being drawn to the this side of the peninsula with the history and activity around the Invasion Beaches plus also the east coast is less developed...we found our current property in 2003 and adored that it was in the heart of a village, yet you had to go round the corner into the courtyard to see the house which backs onto it's own fields...we have the best of both worlds...village & countryside!
The location is amazing, 4 miles in 1 direction to Carentan, 4 miles the other to, Ste Mere Eglise, 10 minutes to Utah Beach, 4 miles to a mainline station with trains direct to Paris, our village is on a direct road to junction onto the N13, we're 30 minutes from Cherbourg, 40 from Bayeux & an hour from Caen...the countryside is simply stunning with glorious coastlines and the wonderful marshes all around us that in the summer have world class horses grazing and in the winter create the most beautiful flooded areas as far as the eye can see. An area of outstanding natural beauty with Normandy having the most Chateaux per square mile in the whole of France...an unspoilt area with something for everyone!
Thank you Mike and Tansy ! We had such a great stay in the cottage over New Year. This trip really made us realise how much we love Normandy, we'll def be back !
Arriving in Houesville we found a homelike, complete furnished Cottage, which was arranged with a passion for details. There is a comfortable living room, a lovely bedroom under the roof, an absolutely complete equipped citchen with a dining table and a newly build bathroom which gave us a wellness-feeling.
At the back side of the Cottage there is a terrace with table, seats and sunloungers and a beatiful view on a pond and the big garden, which is enlived by various animals (chicken, cats, frogs, dogs, etc.) - it's an idyll!
Houesville is well located (direct connection to motorway N13) to discover the Cotentin peninsula with their varied offers of nature, culture, history and recreation.
What made this holidays absolutely perfect were the pretty nice hosts Tansy and Mike who were attentively in every way and made us feel good from the very first second.
Thank you very much! Judith & Ferry

Vielen Dank! Judith & Ferry

The cottage was absolutely lovely and the perfect base for exploring Normandy. It was great to have a full kitchen for breakfasts and the gazebo provided a beautiful place to have dinner when we decided to stay in and enjoy the bounty from the local market. The property is absolutely beautiful, and the owners are lovely and very knowledgable about the area. They were super helpful about the trip in advance (with lots of emails), and greeted us like friends. We really grew fond of the various animals as well. The bed is super comfortable, and the cottage is appointed with everything one could need. We hope to return next year.
This is the place to stay in Normandy - no buts about it. The farm is centrally located and close to all of the major attractions that Normandy has to offer; minutes from Sainte Mére-Eglise, Utah Beach and Carentan. But beyond the location, it’s the hospitality of Tansy & Mike that stands out the most. They did everything to ensure that we were comfortable and made us feel right at home. If you love animals, this is the place to be. The farm has many domestic animals and the dogs love to play. The cottage is very cozy and comfortable and has all the amenities that you need.
Mike and Tansy also offered a lot of advice on where to go and places to see. Their knowledge of the area and its diverse history is amazing. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. Do not hesitate in booking this property – you will not regret it.

My husband and I stayed in the cottage in mid-June of 2012 and had a fantastic time. The cottage was incredible, so much charm and convenience, it really made our vacation enjoyable and relaxing. It is the perfect size for a couple, and the sun room overlooking the pond and farm was basically where we spent all our time. The location is fantastic, its just down the road from Carentan and more importantly, probably the best WWII museum in the area, Dead Man’s Corner. Also, there are large markets as well as farmers markets a short drive down the road, making the kitchen essential. Overall, the location was fantastic for all the main historic, natural and cultural site in the area. There were many fantastic restaurants in the area including L’Estaminet in Ste. Marie du Mont, the food was fantastic and the town was quiet, beautiful and probably under a mile from Utah Beach. The entire trip was fantastic, due in large part to the cottage renters, who were gracious, informative, friendly and just enhanced the whole experience. We had an absolutely fantastic time and look forward to our next visit. Nous aimons Normandy!
We spent a week at Ferme de l'Eglise and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The cottage is a lovely mix of the old and the new - historic lounge and bedroom and very modern kitchen, bathroom and conservatory/ dining room. Tansy and Mike have equipped the cottage with everything you could need for your stay, including bath robes, books, bikes, DVDs and kitchen and bathroom supplies. They are truly wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome, as did Simon who met us on arrival. Tansy had sent us a very comprehensive information package including exact details on how to locate the cottage all the way to Australia when we booked. Nothing is overlooked to make sure that you enjoy your time with them.
The cottage has a very good internet connection and lots of satellite TV channels to choose from.
It was a treat for us to be on a small farm surrounded by so many animals who we were free to interact with if we wished.
I spent a week here with my two dogs in April this year, the weather was wonderful and this is a great location from which to explore the local area, whether you're interested in history, local markets, beautiful beaches, great food or if you prefer to simply relax in the garden and watch all the resident pets perform, it certainly has a lot to offer.
The cottage itself was very well equipped and cozy and the owners, Mike and Tansy, were really helpful and provided advice on what to see, where to go and local facilities etc.
I would definately give this experience the big thumbs up, as would my dogs if they had any!
