We're 8kms from Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan - 10 minutes from Utah Beach & in the heart of the Park Naturel.

We've tried to think of everything! Free wifi, TV, free to view SKY TV, ipod dock, DVD player - masses of movies to include The Longest Day & Band of Brothers. Log wood burner, candles, bed made up with 100% cotton crisp linen, plenty of towels, toweling bathrobes...we leave out guest soaps, loo rolls and cleaning products as well. The bed 6' wide x 6'6'

This is a child free zone... no traffic jams, stress and certainly none of the hustle and bustle of city living

Utah Beach & Regional Park: Set in Normandy within Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectare with 144 villages and towns within the Park. WW2 Utah Beach the Invasion beach, located less than 10 minutes from us, is a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres.

The area is stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing.

This coast being slightly wilder than the west coast is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty.

This area in Normandy is also famous for it’s horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. On Utah Beach world class Trotting Horses are trained everyday on the beach.

The beaches and seafood: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachters, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war Normandy Landing Beaches, 101st Airborne or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do!

Yet in the summer the beaches are paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or beach combing, shell fish gathering for your supper when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded. With the bird sanctuary on Utah Beach there is an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of seals.

Huge mussels and oysters beds with the produce destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally

Cycling & Walking & Invasion Beaches: We are set in the heart of the Normandy D Day Invasion beaches with WW2 Utah Beach 10 minutes away, Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan both 8 kms from us & as we are 2 minutes from N13 we are in an ideal location for easy access to go sight seeing, war tours etc.

Bayeux, Mont St Michel are just short drives away, it is even possible to go to Jersey for the day from here!

Animals - We're know as Arc de Noah here in our village! we have 2 Llamas. 2 kune kune pet pigs, 2 very friendly goats, 2 sheep, lots and lots of bantam & silkie chickens all at liberty, 1 goose, 2 turkeys, 3 young Jack Russell's that live for visitors! & 2 little old dogs aged 18 & 12 & 5 cats.

Cycling or walking holidays...1,000 km of trails for cycling with one of the 22km routes starting outside our gate!

If you like local produce then there are many farms open to the general public, where you can see the produce being made and buy some to take home. It's possible to have tours round the Camembert factories.

Guestbook comments from the owner
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in October. It is difficult to describe how comfortable and convenient this little cottage is. There are all the mod cons and it is quaint, too, on top of that. You feel as though you have your own little nest in the countryside. Tansy and Mike are gracious and helpful hosts, with all the information you need to visit the historic beaches and other sights in the area. The glassed-in patio overlooking the pond and the animal enclosures is ideal for breakfast or enjoying a glass of wine in the evening. This cottage was all that was promised and more! I highly recommed this gite for a couple looking for a romantic and convenient location.

We are English, took the plunge in 2001, both of us giving up good careers in London to make a change & moved lock stock to Normandy... No idea what we were going to do except renovate the farmhouse we purchased...it was by accident we started vacation rentals, so here we are 13 years on, totally settled here with no regrets and enjoying Normandy thoroughly. We get great pleasure in sharing this hidden part of Normandy with our visitors...there is a huge amount to see and do with quite a few hidden gems!

We're probably mildly eccentric and over indulge our creatures, but we do love them and looking after them all.

Tansy Forster purchased this apartment in 2004

Our 1st farmhouse renovation project took 2 years and was a lovely house however was very isolated so we were not discovering the French life we wanted to plus we're being drawn to the other side of the peninsula with the history and activity around the Invasion Beaches plus the east coast is less developed...we found our current property in 2003 and adored that it was in the heart of a village yet you had to go round the corner into the courtyard to see the house...we had the best of both worlds...village & countryside!

The location is amazing, 4 miles in 1 direction to Carentan, 4 miles the other to,Ste Mere Eglise, 10 minutes to Utah Beach, 4 miles to a mainline station with trains direct to Paris, our village is on a direct road to junction onto the N13, we're 30 minutes from Cherbourg, 40 from Bayeux & an hour from Caen...the countryside is simply stunning with glorious coastlines and the wonderful marshes all around us that in the summer have world class horses grazing and in the winter create the most beautiful flooded areas as far as the eye can see. An area of outstanding natural beauty with Normandy having the most Chateaux per square mile in the whole of France...an unspoilt area with something for everyone!

URLAUBSWOCHE IM OKTOBER 2009

  • 5 of 5

This house is wonderful for two people - cozy and comfortable. The equipment is described, for initial supplies are provided. the bed is prepared and on arrival the fire was burning in the oven and Madge (one of the dogs) was waiting with a ball - it was immediately at home. Tansy and Mike are two wonderful hosts - thank you for that relaxing week. We like to come at any time. Sabine and Jurgen We recommend this house and the place full of people who seek peace and quiet, loves animals are (There are goats, pigs, donkeys, chickens, geese, cats and dogs on the property) and no in close proximity to the hustle and bustle. GREAT HOLIDAY RENTAL!

  • 5 of 5
Rental was exactly as advertised - great location and welcoming, helpful hosts. Ferme d'Eglise is charming. The barn loft apartment was clean, modern and boasted all the amenities we needed. Tansy and Mike were great hosts and provided us with excellent tips on what to see in the area. I would highly recommend this spot for a couple to unwind and tour the Ste Mere Eglise and D-Day beaches.

FERME DE L'EGLISE WAS IDEAL

Ferme de l'Eglise was ideal
  • 5 of 5
Our only regret was not staying longer. As advertised when we arrived we were greeted by our animal hosts, the Jack Russells, and we fell in love with these dogs. After the Jacks we met Tansy. Tansy made us feel right at at home, and was very helpful in getting us settled in. The property was exactly what we were looking for. It was located close to a main highway but far enough not to hear any traffic noise. the only noises we heard were the country sounds of being on a farm. The loft apartment was clean and well appointed. There was even a basket of fresh eggs in the kitchen. This was a very pleasant respite after a days sightseeing.
Located just outside Carentan, it was very easy to navigate to all the D-day beaches, museums and towns we visited. The newly renovated Airborne museum in Ste Mere Eglise was one the the best we went to. We also enjoyed walking among the shops in the town of Bayeux.
We have used VRBO for a number of vacations. So far this is favorite! We have already recommended Ferme de l'Eglise to friends and family, and the next time we visit Normandy we will stay here. We'll also stay longer than 3 days...a lot longer. To Mike and Tansy, jusqu'à ce que nous nous réunissons à nouveau!

Owner's Response: Well I certainly hope it's until we meet again! We enjoyed your company and so very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay...all makes it worth while when we know we've done a good job!

The new extension to the Airborne museum is great, as you know we were invited to the opening of it, the sensation of walking out the back of the plane and parachuting down still lives with me 4 weeks on! Definitely should be on everyones list of things to visit!

Hope to see you back...there's all those little fishing ports and beauty spots for you to visit!

FANTASTIC HOUSE AND LOCATION!

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from a wonderful 2 week stay at Mike and Tansy's Utah beach house. Now --- where to begin? It was easy to pick up the key for the house and then go find an immaculate, well-furnished house right on Utah Beach as described. All the photos they post don't begin to do justice to the actual property. There were 10 of us staying there --- 8 adults and 2 children. The upstairs living area with the beautiful conservatory gave us ample room to be together. The kitchen was well equipped with all the necessary cookware, utensils, etc. for us to prepare gourmet meals every night.
Tansy gave us a great map marking her recommendations for day trips. We arranged one formal D-Day tour and then did all of Tansy's recommendations and more. Once you acclimate yourself, it is easy to find and get to the large grocery stores.
My husband and I can't quit talking about how wonderful the entire 2 weeks turned out ---- exceeding all our expectations. We can't recommend this property and owners highly enough. Book it and have the trip of your life.

Owner's Response: Fantastic...we are so pleased you all enjoyed it so much...it's always a big thrill for us when folk are saying great things about the house (and us also)!!
We do make a big effort to try out local restaurants, visit attractions and beauty spots, so we are able to pass on our experiences, help with tips and recommendations ...we've lived here over 12 years and still haven't got to see everything, so we are very aware, anyone coming for a week or so is on a need to know basis...it's the only complaint we seem to get - not enough time to do everything!

QUIET, PEACEFUL, AND CONVENIENT

  • 5 of 5
Our cottage near St Mere Eglise was exactly what we were hoping for, and then some. As the 3rd part of our vacation, we were looking for some peace and quiet, along with the convenience of the nearby historical sites and towns, and got all 3. Our flowered cottage was exquisite, the sounds of the animals and church bells were music to our ears, and we got the necessary recharge we needed to finish out our travels. Tansy and Mike were great hosts and left us to our own but were quite available when needed. The location and ease of travel in the area was quite welcome after a bustling stay in Paris. We would have been quite content if we never even left the property during our stay! I would definitely recommend this property, and already have.

TERRIFIC PLACE

  • 5 of 5
We just loved staying with Tansy, Mike and the fuzzy and feathery people. This was the perfect place to relax and explore the area. We stayed in the apartment which has a king size bed and is very well equipped. The size is just right and it is very comfortable with many thoughtful amenities. [Skye TV is a real plus and they have lots of movies as well.]The village is quiet, but is located close to very nice grocery stores. We found the church bells soothing. We enjoyed the animals which were all friendly and interesting. If you are interested in World War II this is a great place to stay with easy access to major roads and just a few minutes from Utah Beach and Ste Mere Eglise. We wouldn't change a thing!!!

In the heart of WW2 June 6th 1944 Invasion Beaches close to Utah Beach, 4 miles from Ste Mere Eglise, 4 miles from Carentan, from our village you can see the memorial where General Pratt crashed in Heisville...we're half a mile from all the Command Posts!

Ste Marie du Mont was the first village in France to be liberated on June 6th 1944. Ste mere Eglise still has the parachutist effigy hanging from the church tower.

Band of Brothers story featured around here for parts 2 & 3.

Further up the coast the other invasion beaches Point du Hoc Arromanches, Mulberry Harbour, are all easy access and well worth a visit. The museums, memorials and information are superb with films in most museums, all of them are really worth visiting...we highly recommend the 360 degree cinema at Arromanches. Other Activities: Bird watching, dolphin & seal watching, boat trips round the invasion beaches or round the headland above Cherbourg, sand yachting, para wind surfing, beach combing, sea fishing, course fishing,

Golf: Golf here is quite fantastic...

Golf Fontenay-sur-Mer a true Links course only 20 minutes away.

Omaha Golf Made up of three 9 hole courses, the outstanding views of the d-day landings beaches from this course make the whole trip worthwhile. An excellently maintained undulating cliff top course, some of the shots possible are not for the faint hearted.

Barneville Carteret An outstanding links course with undulating fairways, sand dunes, water hazards and narrow greens, this 9 hole course (soon to be developed to 18) benefits from outstanding views of the channel islands

An 18 hole links close to the quaint town of Agon-Coutainville and only 5km west of Coutances, Coutainville is a challenge for golfers of all abilities particularly in the wind.

Notes:
This is a perfect place for a couple exploring the area who like peace and tranquility... as long as you like country noises then this is great. Stavros the donkey can't help himself when he sees someone - he brays, he's not ours but is totally convinced he belongs to us! We also have a flock of chickens, quite a few cockerels (that chant in the morning), as well as a goose, they have complete freedom to wander over all our land, our freshly laid eggs are available. We do have 4 small dogs and quite a few cats... none of which are allowed in the apartment or the cottage - but they all love visitors so if you are missing yours Madge will oblige - so before you decide to come please be aware they will expect you to say hello when you come and go or you are in the garden! Our Jack Russell's do not understand being ignored! We're very close to the motorway (can't hear it) equidistant 8kms to Carentan, Ste Mere Eglise and Utah Beach. We're in the heart of the WW2 American sector
