October 21, 2011 – New York Times, Emily Brady:

“Sonoma County may be best known for its wineries and the tony (sic) towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, but West County, as locals call the area around Sebastopol, is where the vineyards begin to give way to rolling hills, bohemian enclaves and the wild Pacific Coast beyond. Sure, there’s wine produced here — excellent pinots in particular — but there’s plenty to explore beyond it, especially around Sebastopol, where in recent years new restaurants, shops and live music venues have opened, securing the town’s position as West County’s arts and culture hub.”

American as Apple Pie

“‘I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma,’ you hear people say, as if they were one and the same. Sure, Sonoma’s 300-plus wineries, like those of vine-centric Napa, offer peak wine tasting, from Ravenswood’s deep Zinfandels to Gloria Ferrer’s sophisticated sparklers. But if you’ve visited only the county’s wineries, come back to sample the astounding diversity that makes Sonoma one of America’s travel treasures.

Spend some time floating in an inner tube down the Russian River and walking amid ancient giants—one over 1,400 years old—at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Poke around the old Russian stockade at Fort Ross, which turns 200 in 2012, or the Spanish adobe mission, San Francisco Solano, in Sonoma town. Hunt for antiques along Petaluma’s downtown Victorian row, and dine on seasonal sake-steamed, aged abalone at Michelin-starred Cyrus in Healdsburg. And don’t miss a flaky, fruit-packed slice of Gravenstein pie from Mom’s Apple Pie, a roadside stop outside Sebastopol. It ranks up there with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir as a real taste of Sonoma.”

Everyone was jealous of our house!

  • 5 of 5
5 things you should know about Wineberry:

1. Heidi is awesome. She welcomed us with fresh basil, 2 bottles of wine, and taught us how to use the pizza oven.
2. The house is awesome for entertaining. We watched the Seahawks game on the first night on the huge TV, and some of us were able to start making pizzas outside without missing the game because of the TV outside! Oh, there are TVs in every room too.
3. There is a ping pong table in the garage. This became one of the favorite activities of the whole trip! The garage, by the way, is spotless. We were able to run around barefoot in there
4. The hot tub is huge! WAY bigger than it looks in the pictures. We comfortably sat 8 people in there, but could have fit even more.
5. The kitchens are incredibly well-stocked. Everything you could possibly need, from spices, to olive oil, to mixing bowls of all sizes, pizza-making-tools, etc. Friends and family staying at other houses in the area actually had to come over and borrow things like measuring cups because their house didn't have any-- don't worry Heidi, we got them back :)

The only incident we had was when the swing bench on the porch broke (probably just the back was old), and when we told Heidi what happened, she was so concerned she came over and was so sweet-- you can tell she really puts a lot of pride and love into the house and her guests.

We were there for a wedding, and everyone that stopped by to visit our house or saw pictures said that we had THE best house. And other people were paying much more for their places! My friends and I will definitely be back (we were already talking about coming back even before we left!) and we will definitely only stay at Wineberry again. Thanks Heidi!

Amazing birthday weekend

  • 5 of 5
I can't say enough good things about Heidi and the Wineberry lodge. I had my birthday weekend here and it was one of the the best birthdays I'd ever had, mostly due to the hospitality we were shown by Heidi and her son Nick. They showed us how to make wood fired pizzas, and even left us some fresh salmon. My guests and I had a blast! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks Heidi and Nick!

Beautiful Wine Country Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
My four children are fully grown and live several hours away from each other on the east coast. We look forward to a yearly vacation. This year we picked Wineberry Lodge! My second son, a self-proclaimed wine aficionado, chose Sebastopol/Russian River and the Wineberry Lodge for its wineries.

Upon arriving at Wineberry Lodge, we entered into a small gated community where we met the owner Heidi(she is the sweetest and the most hospitable person!) She opened the door of the Wineberry Lodge to let us in. It was definitely a "WOW" factor when we walked in! My family quickly noticed the pictures online did no justice. From the custom woodwork to the extravagant outdoor kitchen/bar, we were highly impressed!
Wine and fresh fruit were also waiting for our arrival!

My biggest concern with rentals is (Cleanliness): The house was spotless!

The wood fired pizza oven, which was flown from Italy, probably stole the show. The pizza cooks in just a few minutes, and after some practice, makes for a fun and delicious day/night with your loved ones.

As the week progressed, we visited many wineries, including the ones within walking distance(Merry Edwards, Dutton Goldfield, etc.) Kayaking down the Russian River was also a great choice, just 10 minutes away! Another great stop is Bodega Bay for fresh seafood. One night, Heidi's husband Brent, thoughtfully called the house and dropped off Dungeoness crabs for dinner! How nice is that!

The Wineberry Lodge was a great choice for our family vacation. Enough can't be said about the generosity and attention to detail we experienced! Hopefully, your family will enjoy the same… Just not during the same week we plan to book this beautiful property again.

Vacation to Remember

  • 5 of 5
The Wineberry Lodge is awesome, the pictures are good but the property is so much more. We had a group of 4 couples celebrating a fiftieth birthday. Surprise!!! Heidi had ballons, card and a very lovely bottle of wine when we arrived. The outdoor area is so unbelievable, this is the place to be in Sonoma. Heidi was so helpful in giving us information on the area , made us feel like one of the locals. Her pizza making lesson was very helpful as we had the BEST wood fired homemade PIZZA"S ever!!! This was a great vacation for all of us in the group. Brent shared some of his smoked salmon with us "AMAZING" does not do justice to describe the taste. An experience that will remembered for a very long time. Definitely would recommend this to anyone staying in the wine country.
Thank you SO much Heidi & Brent for such an awesome place and a lifetime memory! - Michael & Yvonne Mesa AZ

Perfect home away from home!

  • 5 of 5
From the moment we entered the gate we knew we were somewhere special! Heidi was the perfect host/landlord. They have thought of everything to make this home warm and welcoming. The outdoor area is spectacular! Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. We have rented many times from Home Away/VRBO and this ranks right at the top!

Perfect Get Away

  • 5 of 5
If you would like to relax with friends or family in a centrally located area of wine country this is the place for you. This house has a everything you could want or need. If you enjoy cooking this place will really make your day. We really enjoyed the outdoor entertaining area and that is where we spent the majority of our time. The house is very nicely appointed and maintained throughout. I would not hesitate to return.
