October 21, 2011 – New York Times, Emily Brady:

“Sonoma County may be best known for its wineries and the tony (sic) towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, but West County, as locals call the area around Sebastopol, is where the vineyards begin to give way to rolling hills, bohemian enclaves and the wild Pacific Coast beyond. Sure, there’s wine produced here — excellent pinots in particular — but there’s plenty to explore beyond it, especially around Sebastopol, where in recent years new restaurants, shops and live music venues have opened, securing the town’s position as West County’s arts and culture hub.”

American as Apple Pie

“‘I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma,’ you hear people say, as if they were one and the same. Sure, Sonoma’s 300-plus wineries, like those of vine-centric Napa, offer peak wine tasting, from Ravenswood’s deep Zinfandels to Gloria Ferrer’s sophisticated sparklers. But if you’ve visited only the county’s wineries, come back to sample the astounding diversity that makes Sonoma one of America’s travel treasures.

Spend some time floating in an inner tube down the Russian River and walking amid ancient giants—one over 1,400 years old—at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Poke around the old Russian stockade at Fort Ross, which turns 200 in 2012, or the Spanish adobe mission, San Francisco Solano, in Sonoma town. Hunt for antiques along Petaluma’s downtown Victorian row, and dine on seasonal sake-steamed, aged abalone at Michelin-starred Cyrus in Healdsburg. And don’t miss a flaky, fruit-packed slice of Gravenstein pie from Mom’s Apple Pie, a roadside stop outside Sebastopol. It ranks up there with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir as a real taste of Sonoma.”

perfect for families with kids

Everything about the stay was perfect. We had 5 kids under 5 yrs in our group, and every aspect of the property was what we were looking for. We had lots of rain the weekend we were there, but were saved by the spacious indoors, covered patio, outdoor kitchen, hot tub and garage.

The outdoor kitchen was the best part of our stay (and wasn't even the reason we picked the property - but should have been)! I never knew how fun it would be to spend all afternoon stoking a fire, making pizza dough, and having the kids 'decorate' the pizzas.

One amazing thing about this property is how well it is stocked! From games to movies, linens to cookware, and even outdoor games. This house really does have it all.

Can't wait to go back!

This was an absolutely PERFECT 50th Birthday Celebration. We couldn't ask for more. It was a perfect setting and weekend with friends and truly kept us smiling the entire time.

Heidi and Brent are incredible and gracious hosts. They add their personal touch and go to great efforts to make your stay an amazing and memorable one. Thank YOU Heidi and Brent for sharing your gorgeous home.

The house is immaculate and has every amenity possible. The kitchen was perfectly equipped to cook for a larger group. The layout and the property is spacious and very comfortable for people to spread out. Even with a group of 7 people we fit comfortable in all rooms and still felt like we had plenty of space. The house is beautifully decorated with great comfort.

We enjoyed the gorgeous gourmet outdoor kitchen and pizza oven. It is such a blast making pizzas together. The outdoors is amazing! Very relaxing and the perfect setting to wine and dine.

Would highly recommend without hesitation. Book it before someone else does! It was almost impossible for us to leave at the end of the weekend! We already rebooked for October.

My last trip to WineBerry was a multi-generational family vacation and we had such a fantastic time that when my friends and I were planning a girls weekend, I immediately thought of returning here. My girlfriends loved it just as much as my family did! We had two delicious outdoor pizza dinners -- working that wood fired stove is so much fun! Everyone appreciated the house and especially the extra touches. Thank you Heidi and Brent for another excellent weekend!!

Perfect weekend getaway!

WineBerry Lodge is absolutely amazing - the photos don't even do it justice! We had a party of 8 adults all visiting the region from the east coast - two couples and four singles - and everyone had a comfortable bed. Having stayed in a number of rental properties in the US and abroad, I can say with complete certainty that Heidi and Brent are impeccable hosts. Their house is fully stocked with not only the essentials, but also luxuries (Starbucks coffee, laundry detergent, even toiletries). We cannot recommend this property and these thoughtful owners enough - we've already told our friends and families how wonderful our experience was. Looking forward to a future visit!

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at WineBerry Lodge. In the midst of 5 inches of rain on a 3 day weekend, we were warm and dry and enjoyed the outdoor kitchen even in the cold weather. Outstanding amenities, fully stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds. Also GREAT OWNERS. We loved it. Can't wait to come back in the sunshine! Thanks, Heidi & Brent!
