October 21, 2011 – New York Times, Emily Brady:

“Sonoma County may be best known for its wineries and the tony (sic) towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, but West County, as locals call the area around Sebastopol, is where the vineyards begin to give way to rolling hills, bohemian enclaves and the wild Pacific Coast beyond. Sure, there’s wine produced here — excellent pinots in particular — but there’s plenty to explore beyond it, especially around Sebastopol, where in recent years new restaurants, shops and live music venues have opened, securing the town’s position as West County’s arts and culture hub.”

National Geographic Traveler - 2012

Sonoma, California

American as Apple Pie

“‘I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma,’ you hear people say, as if they were one and the same. Sure, Sonoma’s 300-plus wineries, like those of vine-centric Napa, offer peak wine tasting, from Ravenswood’s deep Zinfandels to Gloria Ferrer’s sophisticated sparklers. But if you’ve visited only the county’s wineries, come back to sample the astounding diversity that makes Sonoma one of America’s travel treasures.

Spend some time floating in an inner tube down the Russian River and walking amid ancient giants—one over 1,400 years old—at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Poke around the old Russian stockade at Fort Ross, which turns 200 in 2012, or the Spanish adobe mission, San Francisco Solano, in Sonoma town. Hunt for antiques along Petaluma’s downtown Victorian row, and dine on seasonal sake-steamed, aged abalone at Michelin-starred Cyrus in Healdsburg. And don’t miss a flaky, fruit-packed slice of Gravenstein pie from Mom’s Apple Pie, a roadside stop outside Sebastopol. It ranks up there with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir as a real taste of Sonoma.”

everything you need and more!

This was our second time staying in this charming and comfortable home, and we can't wait to come back! This vacation rental is fully stocked for a fabulous time, and Heidi goes above and beyond to make sure her guests are happy. The place is full of games and toys for young and old alike, and both indoor and outdoor kitchens are a foodie's dream! If you're worried you won't know how to make the most of the pizza oven, don't fear -- Heidi has a nice selection of books that will make you into an expert in no time.

Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5
Overall impression: Everything was top notch! I can't think of one complaint. Property was well maintained, exceptionally clean...Easy communication with Heidi - she was receptive to all questions and explained the various systems of the place. We did host a pizza party and it was very easy to use the wood fired ovens, with a bit of practice. She left us two bottles of wine and a full fruit basket- a very nice touch that we really appreciated. OUr family also rented the two bedroom cottage which was also outstanding and spacious. Would return in a heartbeat should another occasion arise! Cathy

This house is amazing- the pictures don't so it justice! The outdoor kitchen is unbelievable, the pizza oven is as cool as it sounds, the accommodations are clean, comfortable, luxurious and spacious. And the welcome: Heidi welcomed us with wine, fresh fruit, and a personal tutorial on the pizza oven. There was fresh coffee, bottles water, every cooking utensil and supply imaginable. We're already planning our next trip back!!!

We had a fabulous time! The thought the owners put into making visitors comfortable was amazing. Property was immaculate, and more accommodating than we imagined. Our son got engaged overlooking Merry Edwards winery, and he was waiting for the perfect view and time. I think Brent and Heidi will see us again.

Everyone was jealous of our house!

  • 5 of 5
5 things you should know about Wineberry:

1. Heidi is awesome. She welcomed us with fresh basil, 2 bottles of wine, and taught us how to use the pizza oven.
2. The house is awesome for entertaining. We watched the Seahawks game on the first night on the huge TV, and some of us were able to start making pizzas outside without missing the game because of the TV outside! Oh, there are TVs in every room too.
3. There is a ping pong table in the garage. This became one of the favorite activities of the whole trip! The garage, by the way, is spotless. We were able to run around barefoot in there
4. The hot tub is huge! WAY bigger than it looks in the pictures. We comfortably sat 8 people in there, but could have fit even more.
5. The kitchens are incredibly well-stocked. Everything you could possibly need, from spices, to olive oil, to mixing bowls of all sizes, pizza-making-tools, etc. Friends and family staying at other houses in the area actually had to come over and borrow things like measuring cups because their house didn't have any-- don't worry Heidi, we got them back :)

The only incident we had was when the swing bench on the porch broke (probably just the back was old), and when we told Heidi what happened, she was so concerned she came over and was so sweet-- you can tell she really puts a lot of pride and love into the house and her guests.

We were there for a wedding, and everyone that stopped by to visit our house or saw pictures said that we had THE best house. And other people were paying much more for their places! My friends and I will definitely be back (we were already talking about coming back even before we left!) and we will definitely only stay at Wineberry again. Thanks Heidi!
