We were there October 10-15 2014 and we had a few days of beautiful weather and two days of the wind coming in hard off Lake Superior. When it was nice outside, we built a fire in the fire pit; when it was windy, we enjoyed the exquisitely nice interior. Loved the hardwood floors, furniture, and overall layout of the home. It was awesome making dinner at night or coffee in the morning and looking out and seeing Gitchee Gumee. Cable worked fine, but I could not get cell service and therefore could not use the wi fi, but it is there and my girlfriend was able to log on (just one carrier as opposed to another). It was only two of us, but 6,7, or 8 people would find plenty of room, especially with the extra bathrooms. There are a few places in Big Bay to grab some food/drinks which is five minutes away, and Marquette has so much to offer that is thirty minutes away. The owner was very nice and accommodated our late arrival on our first day with a generous discount for that first day. I received my security balance back within ten days. I highly recommend this rental home.
My husband and I had our wedding at this house. We invited our parents and siblings and hosted everyone for a few days while we stayed for the whole week. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! The setting was gorgeous and we have the best wedding pictures ever. House is well appointed. The table was large enough to seat all 8 people and there was room for everyone to have a place to sleep. We want to come back again soon! Also, the hot tub was awesome - perfectly situated to watch the sunset. Big Bay is great - you can wade out super far, so I imagine it would be a great place to visit with kids.
While we had a great week, we were surprised to receive notification that our damage deposit would not be returned. Our extended family has rented houses in various locations for the past 7 years and have never not received our damage deposit back. We were blamed for things that had nothing to do with us. I would encourage you to do a walk through on the day you arrive and perhaps when you leave.
We would have come back, but now we won't!
My husband and I were married at this home and we could not have asked for a better place! The view was stunning, the home was perfect for a small wedding, and the layout was perfect for pre-wedding visiting and such a relaxing stay! My grandmother, mother and her sisters also stayed here for a weekend and loved every minute of it! On a chilly night a hottub is the perfect thing for a relaxing night with a swim in Lake Superior to top it off! The home was spotless when we arrived both times. I highly recommend this place to anyone for any sort of stay whether it's with a few friends, family get-a-way or a romantic weekend. It's located in a very quiet location and you could not find a better view anywhere! Thanks again Jessica for everything! Our family is so grateful for letting us have our wedding here!!! We hope to rent this place again in the near future!
Sometimes when you look forward to something with great anticipation, the reality is a letdown. That is definitely not the case with Superior Bay. From the moment the car stopped in the driveway I was spellbound by the stunning view of Lake Superior. The house was just as pictured in the ad, beautiful and clean. Our biggest decision was whether we should take the master suite with the spacious bathroom or the lone bedroom in the lower level with the fireplace. We chose the master and enjoyed the privacy it offered from the other bedrooms as well as the comfortable bed and the relaxing sound of the waves crashing on the rocky beach. The kids enjoyed running between the cool water of Lake Superior and the hot tub. They also found a favorite late night hangout, the “hot room” aka sunroom where they enjoyed warming up by the fireplace and drinking hot chocolate while playing games. When I left home I said that I was not cooking anything except for breakfast while I was on vacation. You should pick up a few more groceries in Marquette because the kitchen in this house inspires one to cook while looking out at the beautiful view. If you don’t want to cook though there is a wonderful restaurant in Big Bay called Thunder Bay Inn. There are a couple of other restaurants as well, but we never got around to trying them because the Thunder Bay was immaculate, the staff was very friendly and the food was great. We hiked to several beautiful waterfalls with varying degrees of difficulty that were all less than 5 miles from Big Bay. We visited a cinnamon sand beach that was a within a few minutes of the house by car where we found sea glass and drift wood where the kids would have splashed in the waves for hours. In the other direction from the beach there is a beautiful lighthouse that you can tour. The guide was terrific and the view of Lake Superior from the top was breathtaking even on a cold and windy day. Marquette is a beautiful city with a gorgeous park, the downtown has interesting restaurants and shops, and the waterfront is waiting to be explored. A little further down the road is Munising where you can take a glass bottom boat ride and look at sunken ships. There was a little blue fresh fish shop with amazing smoked white fish that I highly recommend. The only drawback to Superior Bay is having to pack up and leave this wonderful paradise, but I am left with wonderful memories of our short stay there.
We rented from 8.28 and departed 9.1.13, The place was great, The day we arrived and found that a tree had come down in the yard by the lake and took out part of the railing but it was all cleaned up and piled off to the side along with the railing replaced. The inside of this place was nicely decorated and consisted thru out with a rustic/woodsy theme. The heated 3 season room was great in the evening when the fly's were bad or when it rained. We just opened the windows and sat in there instead outside on the deck. The water was warm enough to go in,just remember to bring water shoes since it rocky/slate out there and can be slippery. I am from the area so we took the other couples that were up there with us and we did a lot of the tourist things which was a walk back down memory lane.
The day we arrived we had a note that the hot tub was out of order, they did get someone up there on Friday to fix it but we did not use it since the water was the color of root beer-not sure why that was.
The place had all the accommodations of home and we would love to rent this again next year for a week. The theme they had going thru the house was great, The extra refrigerator in the garage was indeed used since each couple brought up food for each day while we were there along with water, pop and adult beverages. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wanted a laid back, hang out with friends and or family get away. I would give this place a 5.........it is that nice.
