An amazing jewel of a house.

This is my favorite place on Shelter Island, and I've had the good fortune to stay here several times.
The house itself is far more amazing than the photos suggest. You don't remotely get the feel of what it really is about until you show up in person. It has been designed and built by the current owners, with so many great details and little touches that only come to light once there.
My favorite space is the upstairs which comprises a wide open lounge, dining area and kitchen that is created as a single open space that takes the entire 2nd floor. There is an amazing terrace which is open, but under the roof - a unique feature which means you can enjoy the outside living whatever the conditions.
This house is set deep in nature. You have a stunning view out the back to the ocean, but at the same time, a feeling of being in the forest. And yet, somehow, its very very light.
The front of the house hides what is really inside, which is beautifully done out in a clean, modern manner. The front terrace is a great joy to enjoy in the early afternoon and having the pool makes it. Its like swimming in the heart of a forest.
The layout of the house is great. The common living area is all upstairs, with the bedrooms on the ground floor and basement level (which is actually the ground level at the back of the house).
Overall, it has an amazing energy, like a rejuvenating retreat where you get the sense of being completely away from the world, while at the same time being very close to the best bits of the island - Sunset beach is down the hill, the golf course at the end of the drive, the Heights local town 2 mins away. And with all the mod cons and Wifi internet, you remain connected as and when you need while truly getting a sense of rest and recuperation.
The owners are incredibly hospitable, thoughtful people with a great generosity of spirit who ensure you have everything you could possibly need plus more.
Highly recommend this house... its offers a true holiday with deep rest and peacefulness, together with all the best that Shelter Island and the Hamptons has to offer on your doorstep.
