Overview

Lorain House Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, sleeps 6-12

Welcome to your home for the week/weekend! The Beacon B&B/Vacation Rental at Lakeview Beach offers a relaxing stay directly across from Lakeview Beach and South Lakeview Park, facing the lighthouse with the neighboring beacon light flashing through the windows as if to guide and welcome you home! This classic century home with formal, yet warm and inviting, living/dining area and newly remodeled large open kitchen create a comfortable classy atmosphere for our guests. Enjoy morning strolls at the beach with hot coffee or walks through the historic rose garden or quaint well-maintained neighborhood. Relax and soak in the sunshine on the beach. Indulge in a massage with on-site LMT. Take it up a notch with countless activities: tennis, basketball, bike-riding, volleyball. Allow the breathtaking sunset over Lake Erie and the colorful fountain to set the mood for your evening as you take in the splendor with music and wine on the large front porch boasting a million dollar view!

The Beacon B&B is a century brick home located ACROSS the street from the Lighthouse that is pictured with that view of the Lighthouse and Beacon (for which the B&B is named). The Beacon B&B was being used as a vacation rental this past season and likewise this coming season. There will be some extra special services expected in a B&B like evening 'turn down service' with chocolate on the pillows, fresh flowers, etc. But the home is rented to single families/groups so you will enjoy it privately! The price will be increasing for this coming season, but reflects renting the entire home for the week. I also intend to have the adjacent property available for vacation rental with the initial rates of The Beacon.

The 'Beacon B&B' is a classic century home and includes a more formal living/dining area with the warmth of 'old world/Tuscany' decor along the newly remodeled large, open kitchen creating a comfortable, classy and inviting atmosphere for our guests. Find quiet resting places in the 'Widow's Peak' in muted green tones overlooking the beach, with its computer armoire and delightful doll houses or relax with a book on the reclining/rocker loveseat in the library in rich red and gold tones with decor seemingly inspired by voyages to Asia and Africa.

The sleeping areas begin with the 'Captain's Quarters', a private second floor suite including a King bed with rich deep plum and brown hues, attached private bath, large bay window with full views of the beach and parks. 'Mermaid's Delight', a charming second floor bedroom includes a Queen bed with calming blue hues, delicate floral linens with a touch of gold and pink along with views of the beach and gardens and shares a large bath with whirlpool tub. 'Tranquility by the Sea' also on the second floor with a Queen bed wrapped in luxurious Park Avenue bedding in rich brown and blue tones and large shared bath directly across hall with whirlpool tub. 'Eagle's Nest' a suite located on the third floor with spectacular views of the lake and beach include a King bed with calming olive and navy decor, sleeper sofa, vanity area and private bath.

These four overnight stay rooms/suites and full access to the living areas and kitchen along with our pleasant host provide accommodations that truly make you feel at home.

'The Beacon' was built in the early 1900's directly facing the lighthouse with the neighboring beacon light flashing through the windows as if to guide and welcome you home! The large brick home withstood the damaging winds of the 1924 tornado. It provided a loving home to several families and at one point in the mid-1900's offered guest rooms as a tourist home. It sits proudly across from Lakeview Beach with its magnificent view of Lake Erie sunsets, along with the historic lighthouse, fountain and rose garden, as well as the newly reconstructed beach bathhouse that sits on the original foundation remaining from the tornado. This home's original garage was located under the large front porch as seen by the sills of the poured walls along the re-established driveway toward the front of the house. Most of the original woodwork and floors remain and grace the halls of this home that reminisce of a bygone era.

Ms. Kucirek acquired the property in 2003 after failing in love with the open airiness of the surrounding parks and magnificent full beach view. She is now happy to share this home and realize her dream of opening a B&B at Lakeview Beach. We are excited as we complete renovations for the 2012 season with special introductory rates and plan our Grand Opening with open houses early in the 2013 season! We are happy to announce a major improvement is now complete: the water pressure! The 'Eagle's Nest' on the third floor remains under renovation and is not available. A sleeper sofa was added to the library to provide a fourth private sleeping room for guests. We are a proud sponsor of Follow the Fish Arts and Adventure Trails, Lorain County.

Home away from home

Where to begin...? The stay was great! Kelly was more than accommodating and made us feel like we were old friends. The house was more than spacious for two couples, and we all felt very comfortable. The kitchen was great and had everything we would need as far as essentials went such as ketchup, mustard, etc. The fact that she provided breakfast the first day was very kind and courteous. We used the grill out back and had some great steaks along with some good chicken from the local Wal-Mart. The rooms were great and had a rustic charm with current features. The location was perfect and easy access to Cedar Park and Cleveland where we caught an Indians game. The beach was great and the views were very relaxing. We woke up and caught the sunrise on our first morning and thought that there was a lot of charm in the area. Kelly recommended the "Mile Long Pier" to us which was great and we went out at night and also on the day we left. We could see the lighthouse from the front porch where we spent a good bit of time enjoying the views and watching the people. The little town had events every night that we were there which was very convenient. We dined out at two places in the area and enjoyed both of them immensely. We first had lunch at The Pit which is a delicious barbecue place towards Vermillion. The food was amazing!!! The other place we ate at was the Jin House near the highway...great low prices, good quality food and the sushi was AMAZING!! Overall, great house, great and gracious hostess, and beautiful area.

Clean and fantastic place to stay

  • 5 of 5

When we first arrived, the owner was very welcoming and accommodating. We had ten people in our group and we fit very comfortably in the space. The house was clean and very well maintained. Though it was wintertime, we still enjoyed the beach and park nearby, which had a Christmas display up. The grocery store was close and easily accessible and the kitchen worked great for cooking. All of the bathrooms were in great shape as well as the bedrooms. We would definitely recommend the property and we hope to stay there again!

Charming, Cozy, and Brimming With Character

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful property where there was room for all and a nice breakfast waiting to be enjoyed on Saturday morning. The house is big but it has a warm, cozy feel. Our kids enjoyed picking out their bedrooms, each of the four available having its own unique style and advantage. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, and we loved looking out the windows at the snowy park and frozen lake. We also liked that we were close to restaurants and the Palace Theatre, where we had tickets to a show. Our favorite local restaurant was Stubbies - great bar and great menu! Check out the doughnut burgers there. Kelly has a book with menus at the house and this came in very handy. For breakfast, she left us muffins, a carton of eggs, sausage, juice, and fruit. I think it's a shame the pictures of some of the rooms are a little dark online because the place is quite special. When we took our own pictures, we found that ours came out a little dark too, but rest assured, the place is nice. If you are looking for something with step-creaking character and plenty of space, you will love it. We did.

Grossly misrepresented

  • 1 of 5

I can see her vision of what this home should be, but it is not nearly there yet. It should have been stated in the ad that this home is only half-finished and is rather a mess. Not only was it not very clean, it was shocking the things that were not finished or were half-finished. Immediately upon entering the home, a nail sticking out of a ragged corner snagged my good sweater. I noticed the open wall next to the stove where a window had been installed, but the wall was never closed up. The kitchen cupboards were a mess and not fully installed, the island wobbled so bad we were afraid it would fall over, and the floor was uneven and people stubbed their toes. There were holes in several of the walls. The paint on walls and several window sills were peeling horribly. The master bedroom door did not latch, never mind lock. We had to use our shoes to prop the door closed. The door to the master bath is a little folding, shutter-type door and offers zero privacy. The knob in the shower is moldy/mildewed. The master bedroom had no blinds on the windows (nor did several other rooms) and so there was no privacy and the sun woke us up bright and early by shining in our eyes. The master bedroom has a sleep number bed in it that does not work and is deflated. It was so uncomfortable and felt like we were sleeping on a hard floor. We arrived on Christmas day and there were still fall decorations and pumpkins all over the house. Also, we were told several times that the first breakfast would be provided, but it was not. When I questioned this, I was told that they forgot and that "there is a grocery store to the left, go get some groceries" and she would instead bring them the next night. It was CHRISTMAS NIGHT! There were NO stores open! We finally found a Walgreens that had a box of cereal and some milk. We had 6-7 people staying and were only provided with 5 washcloths (for 4 days!). After asking for more, she did bring us more, but shouldn't that have been planned for? The blinds were caked in dust and grime. One of the picture frames hanging in the living room still has the paper pictures from the manufacturer in it/never had pictures placed in it. I tried to go on the front porch to look at the view, and I was immediately locked out of the house because the handle on the storm door is broken and only works from the inside. This should NOT be rented until it was done. I seriously think we need a refund.

Owner's Response: Most guests leave their positive review in a journal there rather than online and many return!. I truly wish you would have given me the opportunity to remedy any issues DURING your stay so that you too would have been one of my many satisfied guests. I am glad you can see my vision and I appreciate your constructive criticism. I do not stay at the home much over the busy season, so I am unaware of some things until a guest kindly brings them to my attention. I do mention ongoing renovation, including updates of those completed, on the website and my initial response to inquiries.Even a review mentions it. Unfortunately, a serious family illness this past spring prevented finishing more projects prior to the busy summer season. The rates remain extremely competitive because of it.I am sorry that your arrival left you disappointed because the breakfast items weren't yet there. I provide such items as a courtesy.,not included in the price nor mentioned on the website or my initial email response. Also, you arrived after 9:20 p.m., the following morning, all stores had reopened. I had no idea you would attempt to venture out late on Christmas Day evening. Being out of town myself an extra day, I apologized twice and let you know I would bring them by that afternoon to enjoy your following morning.. Along with the food I bought washcloths you requested. I didn't question it because I felt badly about the food items being late. But there were 10, not 4 washcloths; plus the 8 I bought, I found over half of the 18 were untouched, yet, you have made 3 formal complaints about the lack of washcloths. It makes it difficult to give much weight to your other criticisms, especially in consideration of the condition in which you left the home upon departure...and yet, I am not requesting extra cleaning fees from you . Again, I wish I could have made your stay more satisfying. When I stopped by that very next day, had you mention the bed discomfort. I would have immediately provided you the remote to adjust it. I likely would have bought bedroom blinds. I have done likewise in the past. I slept for years without blinds since the patterned sheers offer privacy. Yet, I can appreciate that some guests may still opt for the blinds, so I will add those. I have been replacing the blinds room by room because they do admittedly get too dirty to clean well. . I continue to make improvements as my goal is to provide a satisfying stay for my guests and welcome their return!

Great for family get-together

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here and enjoyed every bit of it. The house is beautiful and the location is fantastic. The 5 adults in our party were able to visit and linger over coffee comfortably with all the amenities of home. Kelly is a very accommodating hostess, willing to help in any way. The discounted price due to ongoing renovations was greatly appreciated and an excellent deal. Lakeview Park is right across the street and it's beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch and watching the fountain in the evening. The road in front is busy, yes, but not really disruptive. I guess it depends on what you're used to. I live on a busy road also so I really didn't feel it was a distraction. I highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a rental in the Lorain area.

Home, beach and park are all lovely!

  • 4 of 5

Though we had a wonderful time, and will probably return in the future, we gave this property a four instead of a five for a couple of reasons. One, the picture is deceiving in that the lighthouse is much further away than expected, and we had trouble finding it because we expected it to be within walking distance and it is miles away. Two, it is on a busy, and somewhat noisy, street. (When it rained we had to go into the back yard to listen to it.) But it is beside, and across from very nice, green parks, and the beach is just beyond the one park. The beach is very clean, and has two lifeguards on duty, a snack shop, and bathrooms. The sunsets were gorgeous. It would've been nice to have a beach blanket, folding chairs, and an umbrella for the beach, and I imagine Kelly will be getting them soon. Big soft beach towels were provided. The parks have basketball and tennis courts, a lighted fountain, picnic tables, benches etc.. The house is air conditioned and was very comfortable, and Kelly was very easy to work with. She had breakfast items upon our arrival along with fresh flowers in the kitchen, and chocolates in every room. NICE touch! The porch was huge with a nice glider and four soft, comfy chairs and ottoman. Lorain is nicely located with a beautiful hike near the Black River only twenty minutes away (would be an awesome bike ride), and it also has a waterfall, and restrooms. The town of Vermilion, just twenty minutes away, was a wonderful surprise with unique shops and boat tour. In Lorain, Pete's restaurant was inexpensive with great food and service. It was only an hour to Sandusky where we took a ferry to an island, took a tour inside the biggest Geode in the country (awesome!) and went up in the Perry Monument where we overlooked the lake and 17 islands. (Who knew?) Beds were comfy, and though home is still in fixing up phase, it didn't bother us at all. Jacuzzi tub would've been nice to use; it will be great once it is hooked up. I like privacy, so I was a little uncomfortable that the master bedroom only had sheer decorative window coverings without shades to pull down. Plus the sun became my too early alarm. Thank you, Kelly, for providing us with information, and a beautiful place to stay. And thanks for always being there when we needed you! I would recommend this home to anyone. There's a small 'cottage' next door if you have two groups wanting to be near each other, just not in same house. We had a fun, relaxing time.
