Newly refurbished for the 2012 season, “Wayside” retains all the charm and simplicity of a true 1940’s era beach cottage. Part of the Sutton Place cottage community in Truro’s Beach Point, Wayside is located right on Sutton Place’s private beach on Cape Cod Bay. Relax on the private beach, the cottage’s private outdoor area with water views, or the front porch. The downstairs has a living room, dining room, newly rebuilt kitchen and one bedroom. Upstairs are three more bedrooms and the bathroom. Sutton Place does not allow pets.

The cottage has a full kitchen with basic appliances like a toaster and coffee maker, as well as all needed cooking utensils, dishes, etc. An outdoor area will have a table and chairs for dining al fresco, as well as a charcoal grill. Parking for two cars is available, as well as space to store bicycles, kayaks or beach toys. The cottage does not have a telephone, but we are working on Internet (and maybe TV) service for the 2013 season.

Some accommodations are needed given that the building dates from the 1930’s or 40’s. The cottage does not have air-conditioning or central heat; to improve airflow two of the upstairs bedrooms feature seven foot dividers instead of full floor to ceiling walls. We do have several space heaters for cold days. A half-bath is upstairs, and a separate shower room is downstairs. Guests are asked to bring their own towels and bed sheets, although we can provide linens for an additional fee if needed.

The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, while the upstairs bedrooms feature a queen bed in one room, a full bed in another, and a twin bed with a pop-up trundle in the third bedroom.

We live in Boston with our two children. Ever since we met, we have summered in Beach Point and I can usually be found down the street at our cottage at Ocean Breeze.

Why Luisa Zauli chose North Truro

Since I was a little girl, I’ve been coming to Beach Point, Truro each summer. My parents brought my brothers and me every year and we usually stayed at Wayside cottage in Sutton Place. As an adult, I introduced my own family to Beach Point and my husband and I eventually bought our own cottage nearby.

Sutton Place was always more than just a beachside hotel – it’s a place where the same families would return year after year, building their own memories. It is a very special place, and my family has very special memories of our summers here. In 2011, when a developer purchased Sutton Place to create a cottage community, my husband and I were able to buy Wayside cottage. While I am sad to see the old Sutton Place go, I consider myself very fortunate to be able to preserve Wayside. My husband and I have put a lot of work into refurbishing this historic cottage, while preserving its special charm. I know that it, and the new Sutton Place, will continue to be part of a community of vacationers and I welcome you to this cottage that is so special to me.

“Wayside” is right on Cape Cod Bay, in the Beach Point area of North Truro at the end of Cape Cod. Relax on our private bay-side beach with its peaceful view of Provincetown across the harbor, enjoy hiking or biking through the natural dunes of the Cape Cod National Seashore, or take a short drive to the natural and un-crowded ocean-side beaches in Truro and Provincetown. Nearby Highland Golf Links is a true links course and the oldest golf course on Cape Cod.

You can drive, walk, bike or take the convenient Providence Shuttle into nearby Provincetown with its many attractions. A former Portuguese fishing village, Provincetown manages to be both historic and glamorous at the same time. Stretching for three miles along the tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown boasts art galleries, fine dining, clam and lobster shacks, shopping, picturesque walks, and a vibrant night life. You can rent a sailboat or jet ski at Flyer’s, catch a day ferry to Boston, go whale watching or hire a fishing charter, play tennis at the Provincetown Tennis Club, work out in a gym, or hike to the very end of the cape where, as Thoreau said, “a man can stand … and put all of America behind him.” Famous Wellfleet village, with its quaint shops, quiet streets, and picturesque harbor is about a fifteen minute drive.
