I am English and I came skiing and married a mountain guide
and ski instructor. We built the chalet in 1963. He died many years ago and I stayed in this lovely valley.
Teresa Staeger purchased this apartment in 1963
It is ideally situated in the middle of the village but off the street in its own garden.
We couldnt have chosen a better location for exploring this beautiful area of Switzerland. The apartment is located right in the village. We didn't need to use our car because everything- including trains, cable car, grocery store and restaurants were in close walking distance.
The apartment is in a separate area of the owners house with a private entrance. The apartment is simply furnished with a comfortable bed, nice bathroom, small living room and basic cooking facilities. The outstanding feature is the beautiful view of the waterfall and mountains from the balcony. We were ready for a break from expensive hotels and this flat was perfect for us.
In May of 2014, my daughter and I traveled through Europe and we stayed in Lauterbrunnen at The Studio for 4 nights. It was just perfect for us. We walked to trummelbach falls and I fell in love with the town, the storybook cemetary was a place of great reflection for me. Since it was early May, the falls were spectacular. Unfortunately it was difficult to ascend for hiking due to so much snow and white out conditions at that time prevented getting to the higher peaks. The food coop is wonderful, vegetables immaculate so we bought veggies, local cheese and wine and made some wonderful dinners in the kitchen. We so appreciated the heated towel racks as we were traveling for so long could dry some clothes. The launderette was the most efficient of our trip. We bough Swiss Passes and took the train everywhere we could and I found out it runs every day...even if there is a blizzard at your destination! Airtime the coffee shoppe was our favorite coffee shop in all our travels, full of adventurous souls. Teresa is a gracious host and Chico her dog became a fast friend, as gentle and relaxed as his owner. I am returning to Chalet Horner in September!
My husband and I rented the studio apartment at Chalet Horner for three nights in late September and it was perfect - close to the train station, main street and the grocery store and yet it was tucked away. The bathroom was clean and modern. The bedroom/living area was quite large and the kitchen provided us with everything we needed. We ate all of our breakfasts at the flat and appreciated the toaster! Before heading out for the day, we would take a moment and sit on our private patio, sipping our coffee and being awed by views of waterfalls, scenic mountainsides and snowy peaks. We also ate two relaxing suppers there, letting us relax and save money. Since returning home, we have told all our friends that they must visit the Lauterbrunnen Valley and stay at Chalet Horner. Thank you, Teresa, for providing us with a wonderful place to stay.
The studio apartment where my husband, adult daughter and I stayed had tremendous views of the falls and the lovely rose garden that Theresa, the owner, maintained. There was ample space for the three of us and our luggage. The furnishings are a bit dated, but we didn't spend much time in the room. That's not why we went to Lauterbrunnen. We hiked, traveled by train to different towns and enjoyed the beauty of the valley and the mountains. We ate our breakfast on the patio looking at the waterfalls.
Having the kitchenette was helpful, as we made dinner two of our four nights. We wanted to sample local cuisine and ate in Lauterbrunnen and Kleine Scheidegg the other nights. The grilled bratwurst sold at the butcher was delicious!
Everything you need is very centrally located. It was a short walk from the train station and convenient to the grocery store, laundromat and tourist info center.
Theresa greeted us upon our arrival and provided good advice for traveling to the "Top of Europe", as well as treats and a guidebook to reference.
With so much to see, we may have to return, and we would stay at Chalet Horner again.
We stayed at Chalet Horner for 4 nights. As soon as you step off the train and walk up the street you see the magnificent mountains and waterfalls. Teresa welcomed us warmly upon our arrival even though we arrived an hour prior to when we told her we'd be coming. Teresa had a nice bowl of yummy snacks waiting in our room. We enjoyed being able to make our own meals in the kitchenette. Everything we needed was within walking distance so a car is not needed. By far, the best part of our trip was sitting on the balcony and just enjoying the unbelievable view. Quite an experience that we will not forget. We highly recommend staying at Chalet Horner if you want to visit this beautiful part of the world.
We stayed at Chalet Horner for 4 nights. It is a cosy, comfortable and well maintained chalet!
- the view! When you peer out of the windows, you can see Staubbach falls! You can sit out on the balcony and just admire the view while sipping on a hot chocolate!
- welcome pack of biscuits, swiss chocolates, coffee and teas is very thoughtful, especially after a long day of travelling!
- kitchenette including fridge and stove but no microwave. I enjoyed the freedom of preparing our own meals
- less than 5 mins walk to lauterbrunnen station
- various walking trails close to the chalet
- strong and fast wifi for a small fee
The chalet is highly recommended!! The view and little town is just magical! Lauterbrunnen is the perfect outdoor getaway. We were lucky to experience sunshine as well as snow during our stay there. We hope to return again in the future!
