Overview

Woodstock Mill Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 4

This Historic Gristmill of the late 1800’s is situated on two streams, the Cooper Lake stream and the Sawkill Stream in Woodstock hamlet of Shady, NY. It is only 2 hours from NYC and only 2.5 miles to the center of town of Woodstock. The Bear Café, Bearsville Theater and Cub Market are close by.

Parking is on-site.

The intimate converted Mill, has been restored while keeping all the original wood inside. The added wooden cedar deck jets out hovering over the Sawkill and when you look down from the deck you see water rushing towards you. Every year the stream is stocked with trout so one can even fish for trout from the deck, some will be able to see the Blue Heron airborne making its way up the stream also looking for trout.

Enter the Mill House directly from the deck. Inside the floor to ceiling windows facing the stream will seem as if you are still outside in the heart of nature, but experiencing the inside. How wonderful and effective it will all seem. The interior was saved by insulating the outside so you see the exposed beamed ceiling and doors of the original Gristmill. The ambiance is well worth it. A large, brown velvet down couch is a great place to relax on in front of the gas burning iron stove that sits on a unique tile hearth. The 1200 square foot chestnut flooring has a welcoming yellow-orange glow, the lighting is unique and bright, the unique furnishing comfortable. The open and intimate space is equipped with Dock and Bluetooth stereo, DVD player, Wi-Fi and cable TV. The flow through space is open from the kitchen to living room. A see through open-stairway leads to the upstairs bedroom and private ½ bath.

The kitchen has flame cooking {there is a charcoal grill outside}. It is fully equipped with coffee maker, toaster oven, blender and of course tableware and cooking utensils. The wood block kitchen counter is great to serve from, eat on or prepare food. There is also a table with four chairs in a great spot next to a large glass panel. There you can eat, talk or play games as you look up the stream. Back in the kitchen area behind green doors with see-through hearts is a large refrigerator and a stacked washer and dryer. There is also a long work table near kitchen.

A small hallway leads to the bedroom and full bath. This peaceful quite room has a queen sized bed and is tucked into a cozy intimate room with raised ceilings. This room is next to the full bathroom.

An all-white bright roomy bathroom is designed with a wall of glass facing the stream and glass door leading to the deck. Fitting an old mill, the antique bathroom fixtures are interesting and charming.

Up the stairs is the surprise attic bedroom. It is as different, cozy and restful a place you will ever be. Original old wood on the A shaped attic ceiling is like being in a faraway retreat in the middle of nowhere. The queen size bed is situated like an altar, right under a window at the far end of the room. With the window open you will hear the stream below. A few chairs are for quiet resting or reading. There is a closet in the small but sweet half-bath and there are always plenty of linens and towels. You will love it. A known clothing designer once created a cool line of clothing for Target at this Woodstock Historic Grist Mill.

Under the deck {which has table and chairs}, there is a beautiful stone patio sitting along the streamside with steps going down to it. There is also has table and chairs where you might use the grill. Walk along the streamside private path there are other look out sites and you will come to a waterfall. In the summer you can jump in the swimming hole and or sit on the rocks and large boulders and have lunch. In the winter you can have the awesome view by the waterfall of dripping icicles coming down the steep mountain side on the other side of the stream.

Look forward to hearing from you 845-417-5282.

About Michael Young/ lienced realestate broker

I grew up in Woodstock and moved to NYC to follow a music career . I became a record producer to many name artists. I then moved back to Woodstock and followed the family business and now live in the hamlet of Shady.

Michael Young/ lienced realestate broker purchased this mill in 1994

Why Michael Young/ lienced realestate broker chose Woodstock

This is the original mill built in the 1800's. The inside is the original wood and in 1990 a shell was built all around so it could be isolated . To be able to jump in the stream, hang out on the deck and just have a great vibe is what I thought was special.

What makes this mill unique

Water, waterfalls, fishing, Mt. views, 2 miles to the center of town, 1 mile to the Bear Cafe, deck, great vibe, I think the pictures really show what makes the Mill so unique

WE DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE!

  • 5 of 5

SO WONDERFUL! We needed a reprieve from the madness of Manhattan and we found this online. Needless to say, we DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE! The stream alone is such lovely backdrop to an extremely comfortable home. BEWARE of the couch. Once it sucks you in, you can't move. I SLEPT THERE THE FIRST NIGHT BECAUSE MY BOYFRIEND COULDN'T GET ME TO MOVE. We are planning our next stay for a month. There are AMAZING restaurants all over the place. Great hiking too! ENJOY!

The Mill House is a perfect little getaway!

We loved it. Mike is very helpful and the place is clean and homely. Everything you could need for your stay is provided.

Close to lots of great eateries too.

I will definitely be going back, or to one of Mike's other places.

Perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are big vacation rental people – we've been doing the domestic trip thing for a long time now. Of all of our trips I would say this was without a doubt our favorite spot and we plan to return very shortly. Perfect location. Awesome accommodations with extremely tasteful and homey interior and the most magnificent setting, situated on a picturesque mountain brook privately nestled in the Catskills. The owner of the property was very hospitable and joined us one evening for a bottle of delicious local wine – provided by him – which we much relished and quickly sucked back. For the avid fisherman, like myself, this spot has it all. It's no exaggeration that trout can be caught directly from the spacious patio deck, which also provides plenty of room and privacy to sprawl out and laze in the sun. When illuminated from beneath at night the deck provides an enchanting and peaceful outdoor ambiance; so calming you wont even notice the mosquitoes as they devour your flesh. But the mosies weren't problematic at all. Altitude seemingly goes a long way to deter the pesky blood suckers. The town of Bearsville, which is only a three minute drive down the road, has all of the necessities including a quaint country market – fully stocked with fresh produce, meat, booze and goodies. Bearsville is also home to several acclaimed restaurants including the little Bear and Bear cafe and the eclectic Gypsy Wolf Mexican restaurant where you can suck back a world-class margarita and nosh on tasty American-Mexican fare. Another stone's throw away – approximately 8 minutes down the road – is the town of Woodstock who's namesake concert in 1969 left behind a host of now mature hippies and is populated by restaurants suited to their taste for local and organic cuisine as well as numerous activities and music venues. But you'll never need, nor want to, to leave the house. My advice to you is that you stock up at the supermarket and hunker down. You won't want to miss a single moment.

-Luke

Great Getaway!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Nice property right on the river. My wife and I enjoyed a few nights here. It would make for a great extended stay location. We arrived to a warm house with the lights on. Good location, just a short drive from Woodstock and the Bear Cafe. Mike was very generous letting us bring our mini Aussie. There is a GREAT fishing spot past the 212 bridge. Hooked a keeper Brook Trout, but threw him back.

Thanks again Mike!

Water, Water EVERYWHERE. LOVED IT!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The Mill House is rustic, tranquil, and cozy. The sound of the river is melodious and we felt our stress dissolve as we entered the cabin. One of our favorite parts was walking along the path that runs parallel to the river. So peaceful! On three occasions we saw a beautiful Blue Heron perched on a rock from our patio.

Michael is very accessible and attentive if you need something, and even though we prepared most of our meals his recommendations for restaurants is spot on.

The Mill House is minutes away from downtown Woodstock. We spent a half-day browsing the shops, returned to the cabin for a snack and some R&R and then went back to the downtown area to see some live bands at the Colony Café.

We will be back! Thank you, Michael.
