a little disappointing...
My family of 4 just spent a week at this condo. This was our 5th consecutive year to vacation in Galveston and 4th at Pointe West. We've always loved our trips and condos but this year we were a bit disappointed. This condo is owned by a vacation rental company, not an individual, and it was apparent as soon as we walked in. Although it was nice enough and clean enough, it lacked a few little inexpensive details that make a huge difference to me. For instance, there were no hooks in the bathrooms (or anywhere) to hang towels, bathingsuits, or pajamas on. One bathroom didn't even have a towel rack. There was a set of 8 plates, bowls, etc. but as a mom in a family of 4, you can't have 3 meals a day, with 4 people, and only 8 plates unless you wash some dishes, and who wants to do that while on vacation? And the plates were the cheapest/ugliest/Walmart plates you could find. In fact I bought a coffee mug while in Galveston because my theory is Life is too short to drink from an ugly, cheap coffee cup...especially while on vacation! Also, there are no cups for kids. If you want your condo to be kid friendly, you really need kid friendly cups. The condo says it's great for bird watching and it is, but a cheap pair of binoculars would have been nice to have watched them with. The balcony lends a great view of the sunset, but there is no table out there to eat at while you take it in. When we arrived there were no batteries in the remote controls to any of the t.v.'s, which was annoying. The cable package was the cheapest there was so my husband, the die-hard Cowboys fan had to miss the game. Thank goodness it was pre-season. And maybe the most disappointing was on night 1, while we were all exhausted and finally putting our overly tired daughters (3&5) who had been travelling all day and were worn out, to bed, we discovered that the bunk beds that they were excited to sleep in, had NOT been made yet. So my husband and I struggled to get those ready (seriously, when is the last time you put sheets on a bunk bed? UGH.) It was annoying to say the least. But, with all that said, the reason we took a chance on this condo instead of our beloved go-to condo, was the price. This was a bit cheaper and we wanted to save some $$, which we did. So if you haven't been spoiled by individually owned condos, fully stocked with cozy comforts of home, by owners who vacation there themselves, and you don't mind ugly coffee cups, this might not be a bad choice for you.
Families with Teenagers,
Owner's Response: Rebecca, we are the owners of this condo, but we have a professional property manager take care of it due to our distance. I am so relieved that you found it "nice and clean", as to me these two elements are of utmost importance. As you can see, we have never had any bad experiences from other guests in the past, and in fact we have families who make our condo their yearly experience. My family (family of four) use it as well and the furnishings and surroundings has always suited our needs. This is a vacation home, not a primary residence, so I am sure there are certain items that would be found in main home that are not present, but I am so glad you found it nice and clean.
As for the lack of hooks in the bathroom doors, I will review that on my next vacation there (very soon). There was a towel rack in each bathroom, and none have been reported missing so I will get my local manager to investigate. Thanks for the heads up...
As for the dinnerware, my wife picked those out because she liked the design, and I agreed. I am sorry you did not like them, but we have always found them to be fine. As for the place setting for 8, again it has seemed to work for others but maybe we will review this as well. We typically put them in the dishwasher and in an hour we have the whole set clean and ready to roll.
Your concern about the lack of binoculars is worth considering. Thanks for the suggestion. The sheets are always clean and folded on the bunk beds ready to be used if desired. (Yes, even we put them on). Not sure why but we never really thought about it. The cable channels are provided by my HOA fees, and they provide ESPN, FOX,ABC, NBC, CNN, etc. etc. so I am not sure what channel your game was on...
Finally, as for the batteries, I am sorry. There should be batteries. However, instructions are given to all guests to call the property manager with any issues like that and I know from years of experience they will bring whatever is need right over. They have excellent at guest relations. I contacted them about your comments and was told that they did not receive any communication about these matters.
Thank you for your concerns. I am glad they were by in large "personal preference" items and not safety or cleanliness issues.
