Hotel Marea formerly called Hotel Caracol is a recently refurbished small, friendly hotel, off the coastal road between Pontevedra and Sanxenxo. Just metres from the shores of the Ria de Pontevedra, overlooking the beautiful Island of Tambo, there are two beaches, an old harbor and a small taverna.
This small seaside hotel is a delightful alternative to self catering, it´s informal ¨come and go as you please¨ atmosphere will have you feeling totally relaxed. It´s a great place for kids too, free to play on the beaches and welcome for ice creams in the bar.
The hotel also boasts, one of the best restaurant in the area,
sit on the terrace overlooking the sea and watch the dolphins, here you can enjoy the freshest seafood, or local meats cooked in a traditional wood burning oven, served by the friendliest of staff. It is perfectly placed to visit wonderful towns, villages, islands and beaches, or just laze in the sun.

A Spanish golfing holiday with a difference: Meis golf course is only 15 minutes from the hotel.
Set amongst the tranquil pine forests that cap the top of the mountain, this championship course is a fantastic venue to play.
The tree lined fairways have many natural hazards as well as lakes and bunkers, making this a tough but
rewarding 18 holes.
Because you are in Galicia there is no starting your rounds a 5am to avoid the searing heat of the south
and none of the queues either, just perfect hot sunny days through the summer and mild for the rest of the year.
When you are done, relax in the club house and enjoy a glass of Albarino wine while soaking up the amazing views.
We will be happy to book a round for you if required, of if you are in a society we can arrange your tour completely, playing at several local courses and arrange green fees, transport, and catered or self catering accommodation

Small hotels like this are hard to find; very clean and comfortable with just the amenities needed for a relaxing break - none of the excessive trappings of a 5* box. The hotel's location is part way along what is effectively a no-through road - so it's delightfully quiet 24/7. My room had a fabulous view overlooking the estuary out to sea. The hotel staff were lovely and as helpful as you could wish for. Children were warmly welcomed.
Food was good and fresh with a variety to satisfy any palate - and reasonably priced. Although typically Spanish - helpfully there's a menu printed in English. Breakfasts can be 'fuerte' (big and cooked) or light and fruity. Eating on the shaded terrace with the view across water and the occasional dolphin popping up to say hello - it doesn't get any better.
The beach areas just across from the hotel are well sheltered and very child-friendly. A beach bar sells refreshments and ice-creams - as does the hotel.
You need a car to get there; parking is not available at the hotel but there are some space nearby. There are a couple of other bars/restaurants and a pharmacy all in walking distance.
Walkers will enjoy the hills behind the hotel for some fabulous 'miradors' (views) across the surrounding countryside - it was empty whilst I was there. There are a number of cascading mountain streams you can follow and in which you can cool off! The local village of Combarro is fun and quirky with its narrow streets that meander down to the water's edge. And the rest of the Sanxenxo peninsular is easy to access.
Visiting in June - before the summer Spanish getaway in July August - was perfect. If you want to see Spain in a truer light then this Galician gem is not to be missed. It's not on the typical tourist trail, and thank goodness for that.
Would I return - definitely!
Beautiful location, every bit as good as the description. Hotel was nice and served a wonderful breakfast on the veranda. We had a wonderful stay and the staff and owner could not have been more helpful. Would definitely recommend to anybody who is thinking of visiting the region. A great value holiday!
A friend and I spent nearly a week here in the off season and had the full attention of the staff--something I think would have happened even if the place were in high season. The rooms are squeaking-clean and the food is so delicious that we ate there almost every night. But more than that, there was an unexplained vibe to the place. Chef Manolo and owner Paco extended themselves and made us feel like it was our home. Sally and John were there to help with everything from the initial booking and directions when we were lost to local suggestions--with amazing good cheer. Would definitely come back.
Just back after two lovely weeks. Entirely, utterly briiliant. Loved it.
This hotel is lovely, clean, well maintained, food excellent (the food doesn't stop arriving at breakfast but dinner was a bit on the expensive side but we had gorgeous Paella - thoughts of it making me crave it now).
We booked through Sally and John for 2 nights - who we can't wait to meet again to have a few cheeky Albarinos and beers. Having no Spanish when we arrived its was tricky for about a minute but we got our message across and Paco provided our room key with no hassle and plenty smiles. The room had all we needed and a fabulous sea view.
But we decided calling Sally and John might be a good idea for tips. This was the best move we made! Not one suggestion they made led us in the wrong direction. We walked to the town, a hidden gem we didn't expect, went to a beautiful beach and ate in a wonderful wonderful restaurant.
We were sorry to have only booked 2 nights, had we been able to stay longer we would have but our flights (and work) awaited.
The staff in the hotel were lovely, everything delivered with a smile.
Certainly a return trip is on our agenda to explore more but to also relax on the beach, and sample more of the food and of course the wine.
We spent five nights at the Caracol with our eight-year-old daughter and would thoroughly recommend it for a relaxing stay. It is on the beach and you can choose your own quiet spot. Paco and the friendly young waiters are always on hand to serve up tasty little plates - from spicy green peppers "pimientos de padron" to desserts and fried octopus. Lots of fish to spot in the sea and lovely towns to explore - Pontevedra was our favourite. The seafood was the best ever. Thanks to Sally and John for good advice. We'll be back!
