Our Rustic Cottage is just a walk up the drive from the main house. A bit more private and its own breath-taking views. Comfortably, yet sparsely furnished, WiFi, Dish TV, & small appliances plus a 4 burner LP stove with oven. This two story ohana has a covered lanai that wraps two sides for your outdoor enjoyment. A gas grill is conveniently located just outside the door. Its own private parking, near the back gate. This gem was our home for over two years as we built the main house. Need to know:
We are located in a rural, agricultural area, please be aware what that may offer. Adjoining properties host grazing cattle. Feral pigs are abundant and can be vocal. Chickens, roosters, ducks, geese, and others contribute to the polyphony.
Pets: Guests are requested to not bring pets with them, (we respectfully ask you coordinate PRIOR to booking if you desire to bring a pet/service animal) but we are owned by FIVE awesome boxers. While they have freedom to roam our fenced in area, we prefer they not be invited into guest quarters. Most likely, they’ll look for you in the morning. Because of them, we ask you to double check that the gates are closed when entering or exiting the property.
Smoking: We are serious about being a non smoking property. That starts at the county road as you turn onto our drive. Of course, most rental cars are also non smoking so that’s a help. We would sincerely ask that if this presents a problem that you find a place you can more fully enjoy. Violators will be asked to leave - immediately, and billed accordingly if room needs additional cleaning.
Weather: Big Island Hawaii boasts 11 of the 13 climate zones in the world, each with unique ecosystems and weather characteristics. Elevation, pressure variations, rainfall, wind and topography combine to create distinctive microclimates within those climate zones. Climates you may encounter include the humid tropical zones, from sea level to 450 feet, the arid and semi-arid zones, the temperate zones, and the Alpine zones, chilly areas above 10,500 feet.This is not the Hawaii of Waikiki postcards. Rain is what keeps us lush and green. Our normal year rainfall is 120-140 inches. While mostly at night, this changes during the year. Our local temps range from a low of 59 to a high of 80. We have our own Davis weather station on site and accessible via web or iphone app for current conditions. rental. The sunrises are amazing and sitting around the pool was so
tranquil with an awesome view of the ocean. The hosts are so charming,
friendly and helpful that it made our stay even more enjoyable. I
especially appreciated the large walk-in shower after a recent knee
surgery. We'll be back.

Views from the cottage are truly amazing. Cottage is well equiped and maintained, there is everything you need. Hope we come back.
The description was extremely accurate. There is no better way to wake up every morning than to walk out of the cottage, grab some coffee and look out over the ocean. The property was immaculately kept and extremely well maintained. The owners were very helpful in providing ideas for activities while I stayed including a live lava flow, Mauna Kea Observatory, a black sand beach and standing on the most southern tip of the US and looking out over the ocean.
If you are looking for a relaxing getaway away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life I highly recommend staying here and enjoying the best the big island has to offer.
The most peaceful, relaxing vacation we've had in a long time. The view was mesmerizing. We actually saw a rainbow touch the ground next to the pool. You could reach out and touch it!! The hosts welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like family from the first moment. Being dog lovers, we enjoyed the boxers. The accommodations were comfortable and cozy. We felt like we belonged there--not just visiting.
We can't wait to go back agian!!
ATTRACTIONS: Laupahoehoe Point, Akaka Falls; Tropical Gardens; Train Museum, Ziplining, waterfalls, hiking, swimming, surfing & snorkeling. Hilo only half hour away, offers golf, museums, theaters, shopping, a variety of local eateries, paddleboarding, Japanese gardens, beaches, University of Hawaii Imiloa Center, the Macadamia nut factory, a rainforest zoo, and much more. Kilauea volcano is an easy drive - whether at night when the red lava steams into the ocean or daytime excursions through the lava tubes and craters. Easy drive to Waipio Valley, Kamuela, or on to Kona.
