My husband and I both grew up by the beaches of South Jersey, where the closest ski mountains were 4 hours away. My husband is an avid skier, choosing to go to college in Mass, and I am an avid beach goer, sticking closer to home, and choosing a college in Philadelphia. Our Bearfoot Cabin is a happy medium, as we have the best of both worlds in Wilmington!
Judy Arenberg purchased this cabin in 2006
My husband and I first came to the Adirondacks in 1989, as one of our first 'vacations' together. After skiing in many Vermont ski areas, we always seemed to come back to Whiteface. When our 2 daughters were old enough to start skiing, we knew then that we would eventually build our own home to vacation as a family. The perfect opportunity came our way in 2005, and our Bearfoot Cabin became a reality. Now our girls are in college, and the Cabin is the one place we can all 'regroup' and have real family time.
Our cabin is less than 5 minutes to Whiteface Ski Area as well as Lake Everst, a public beach and swimming area. There are many trailheads for hiking within 3-10 minutes. In nearby Jay, we like to swim off the rocks in the summer, which is by one of the only covered bridges remaining in the area. And of course, Lake Placid is a 10 minute drive through the scenic Wilmington Notch...
Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time at the Bearfoot Cabin.
Your place is very comfortable and accommodating. We loved the location and enjoyed the woods and wildlife around the cabin.
We really lucked out with the weather we had...sunny and low winds. We had a blast.
We would stay again for sure..
Thanks and hope we can stay again in the future.

We stayed in Bearfoot Cabin at the end of summer and it was absolutely perfect. The cabin and surrounding area are beautiful. The is so much room - large bedrooms, comfortable living room, peaceful front porch, and a kitchen with everything needed to prepare meals. Everything was immaculate, much more a "home away from home" than a cabin. We have four young boys and they loved searching for salamanders in the yard and exploring the woods around the cabin. We brought a telescope and had amazing views of space from the backyard as we enjoyed campfires. There was so much to do in the surrounding area - we enjoyed hiking, fishing and swimming to name just a few. We definitely plan to return to Bearfoot Cabin!
We rented the cabin the week after Christmas for a ski vacation with our 3 teenage children. It was a perfect home away from home with plenty of sprawl space after long, cold days skiing. The back hallway was great for storing all our gear and we enjoyed some throw down ping pong tournaments in the basement. The cabin was immaculate and the beds very comfortable; the kitchen was roomy, well stocked and easy to prepare meals in. If we ever return to Whiteface we would definitely rent this cabin again.
We loved the cabin. It is bigger than our house! Our kids (15 and 13) loved the game room. So many things to see nearby (Gondola ride at Whiteface Mt.; High Falls Gorge, The Wild Center, Scenic Railroad; many hiking trails, etc.)
The quiet of this mountainside cabin is perfect for frazzled nerves. The cabin decorations are lovely and contribute to a "home away from home" feeling. Cell phone reception was unpredictable, but OK since we didn't want to talk to anyone anyway. We liked how close the cabin is to town, almost could be walked. Since the site is a bit steep and there are lots of steps to the porch, it may not be as comfortable for people with difficulty walking. All in all, Good! We want to visit again soon.
We rented this cabin for Christmas. It is only a 10 min. drive to Whiteface, and only 20 mins or so to Lake Placid. Judy had it decorated for the holidays and it was so cozy. The kitchen is stocked with everything you would need, it's very neat and clean, and the beds are comfy. A perfect home away from home for the holidays! Thank you so much.
Lake Everest (5 minutes away)is a public beach and picnic area, with Life Guard on duty in summer months. At the lake fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and barbequeing is available. Flyfishing on the Ausable and many Hiking Trailheads are also nearby.
The Olympic Whiteface Mountain is less than 3 miles away, for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.
