|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Bellheim lies in the rolling hills of the Texas Bluebonnet Country, one hour west of Houston, on a 100-acre ranch offering peaceful, scenic views and outdoor activity. The house is two stories (1,700 sq ft), with beds for 10, thick foam mattresses and bedding for an additional 4, and a large family room featuring a home-theater entertainment center with HDTV and Blu-ray/DVD/CD disc player.
At night, sit outdoors on the deck and grill your favorites on the BBQ pit, roast Smores on a fire pit down at the windmill, or go down to the creek at sundown and play the owl tape. It's guaranteed to attract a chorus of large-feathered fowl high in the trees above you--something you'll never forget!
AFFORDABLE. NO HOLIDAY RATES (rates same year-round). SMALL-FAMILY DISCOUNTS. LATE-BOOKING DISCOUNTS (when dates available). INQUIRE FOR DETAILS.
Free hi-speed, wireless, internet access now available (wifi).
There is a small spring that feeds our smaller (spring) pond and we have a stone trail to walk through and observe the springs. Children, especially, enjoy the trail!
Bring your favorite Blu-ray/DVD movie to enjoy the Yamaha home theater system. Or better yet, drive the Yamaha with your own audio/video content (e.g., Netflix or Amazon Prime movies, presentations, etal.), displaying video on the 37” HDTV and sending sound to all speakers. The Yamaha has cables for connecting your laptop computer or other personal portable video or music device. If your video player device has a HDMI or VGA jack, you can connect to the Yamaha. If it has neither, you will need to purchase or provide a special HDMI adapter for your device. All other cables and instructions are provided at the house.
Piney Creek is deep in the woods, away from it all; great for exploring, fishing, swimming and camping. Or bring your bicycles or four-wheeler and enjoy miles of trails deep in the woods and out in the open range. (Limit 2 ATVs!) We have two boats you can use on the large pond (row boat and pedal boat). Life vests are provided. Swim and boat at your own risk!
Down at Piney Creek we’re building a large camphouse called “Hog Heaven.” It’ll sleep 8 people when finished. Next to it is the best little outhouse in Texas (give it a try!). See if you can find Hog Heaven!
Bellheim is located on a country road a few miles outside of Bellville. Corriente cattle roam the back 90 acres--a Mexican breed used for Texas rodeos (slightly smaller in stature).
The house has a large family room downstairs with an HDTV and Yamaha home-theater system. The master bedroom is downstairs, and there are two bedrooms upstairs. Each level has a bath.
After the wildflowers finish blooming, we let them go to seed for the next year. This takes about one month--mid-April to the third week of May--where we do not mow. By Memorial Day weekend we have the property mowed again.
Outdoor activities include:
-- Two ponds for fishing, swimming and boating (row boat & pedal boat provided).
-- 1/2 mile of sandy-bottom Piney Creek for fishing, swimming and camping.
-- Acres of wildflowers around the house when in season (Bluebonnets, Texas Stars, Black-eyed Susan). Season is March to mid-April.
-- Miles of trails to explore with your four-wheeler (ATV, side-by-side) or bicycle. Four-wheel-drive is a must when grounds are wet.
-- Fire up the large BBQ pit in the evening out on the deck (just bring charcoal).
-- Roast your Smores and other favorites on the fire pit down at the windmill.
-- Play the owl tape down at Piney Creek. Owls will come and join in!
-- Trek through Bellheim Springs on stepping stones (kids love it!)
-- Check out a working outhouse and the Hog Heaven camphouse.
Pets ages 1 year or over are welcome.
In 2011 I retired from 31 years as an engineer with Schlumberger. My wife and I own and manage three vacation rental properties. We enjoy providing relaxing and safe properties for our guests and their families.
We are both originally from Houston, then moved to Austin in the late 1960s when attending, then graduating from, the University of Texas, where we met each other in the Longhorn Band. Hook-em Horns!
Kermit Graf purchased this estate in 1853
Bellheim is 104 acres of land owned by the Grafs, a family of German immigrants who settled here in 1853. Johann Graf immigrated from Posen, Prussia (currently, East Germany), in 1853, landed in Galveston, then settled in this area and called it the “Piney Community.” Bellheim includes ½ mile of a clear, sandy-bottomed creek called Piney.
During the 1800s, the Grafs originally had approximately 700 acres of land in the Piney Community. Cotton, and then watermelons, were agricultural crops, and many Graf descendants lived and farmed in the area.
In the 1930s, during the Great Depression, our grandparents had a bumper watermelon crop. They shipped a full train carload to Kansas for sale and got a good price for them. The second carload they got a bill because the melons were sold at such a low price it did not cover the cost of freight. Life was difficult.
The land is mostly ranch land now as families have either died off or moved to the big city (Houston) where life was easier. Bellheim is the only remaining land owned by the Grafs in what was called the Piney Community. We opened it up for all to enjoy and is great for the young and young-at-heart to explore the creek, its bottom-land and ponds, and miles of trails along the creek and pasture land.
The Bellheim house was built in 1978 by Ralph Frank, Otis Graf’s first cousin and son of Olga Graf Frank. Like Otis (our father), Ralph grew up in the Piney Community. Ralph was a master homebuilder in the area, much in demand, and had a colorful character. One of his helpers would always hold a hammer halfway up the handle. Ralph sawed off half the handle and gave it back to him.
We are in the middle stages of building a large camphouse down at Piney. Stage 1 is complete--an outhouse...see if you can find it! The camphouse will sleep 8 comfortably when built and will be a marvelous additional attraction to Bellheim. It should be complete sometime in 2015.
Mom tells Dad and the kids: “Does everyone want to stay at Hog Heaven tonight?” Then, she can have the house all to herself in peace and quiet!
I wanted to email you for several reasons, mainly to let you and your family know how much we enjoyed our stay at The Bellheim this past weekend. If it's possible to "feel" the history of a home, we felt an ambience of real hospitality and warmth, and we hope our family's happy time there added to that. There was not an amenity we could have asked for that wasn't provided and, if it hadn't been, the beauty of God's creation would have more than made up for anything we lacked. Everyone, from age 2 1/2 to 66, enjoyed him/herself!
We loved the blackberries and made a crisp on Sunday night using some leftover oatmeal cookies we already had with us. The fresh air increased our appetites and all our food tasted twice as good as usual.
We caught and released about 10 fish, although our grandson is convinced he caught the same fish more than once. And that's one of the other reasons for my email. When we talked with each other after coming home, we realized that no one had taken the WORMS we had stored in the fridge. If they're still alive, and I suspect they are, can they go into your blackberry beds?
We hope to come back to The Bellheim again and will recommend it to friends. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.
With joy and gratitude,
First of all, I want to thank the owner and his family from the bottom of our hearts for sharing such a beautiful property. The entire property was beautifully manicured...even the trails. Everything was in it's place. My dad says, "The owners thought of everything!" Notes all over the house, explaining everything. My mom had a warm heart in realizing that the family history included German immigrants from Prussia as so did her family. This was the first vacation that my family has taken with the grandparents (my parents), in many years. I have never seen my parents so alive, such fun and joyous attitudes. They walked, played ball with the grand kids, even rode atv's and did some fishing. This was very memorable for all of us. There was so much to do. Fishing, boating, horseshoes, campfire down by the windmill, the dinner bell, sleeping in the hammock, playhouse and sandbox, ping pong table, picking berries, taking our atv's to explore the acres behind the house and exploring the creek and so more. The outhouse, the outdoor shower and the new camp house looks great. Bellheim for us, will always be special now because of the time we spent together as a family. Our memories are because of the atmosphere and the amenities that Bellheim has to offer. Kermit was so accommodating. Kermit and the property are truly an amazing find. My kids won't stop taking about it and think that we can just go back on the weekends. The only negative I could find was that I am going to have to wait awhile to get an opening in the reservations so that we can come back. Thanks again Kermit and Bellheim. We will definitely return, how could we not. Thank you again for everything that you do.
We rented this house for a girls weekend away to do some antique shopping and have a mini reunion. Everything was so comfortable - the house has everything you need! The weather was perfect and we hung out on the great porch looking at blue bonnets by the lake. Great family and friend vacation! Hope to make this an annual visit for us- perfect for every occasion!
We are from England and were in Dallas for a family wedding. We wanted to explore the Houston and Austin areas so Bellheim was an ideal location for us for a few days. The property has everything you could wish for, we were a group of 5 adults and wanted to do different things. We all loved using the 2 boats, the barbeque, ping pong and we all explored the 100 acres. The Hog Heaven Camphouse will be fantastic when it is finished. Bellheim is a perfect property and has everything you could want, as we flew from the UK we only had a suitcase each with us and 2 hire cars but apart from buying some food everything we needed was there. We loved the Silver Saddle Smokehouse and Cielito Lindo Restaurants. We also did the tour of the BlueBell Creameries in Brenham which was brilliant. As travellers from Europe we would highly recommend this ranch for a holiday and some day we would love to return.
PERFECT place to stay. We had a group of 5 women meet to plan our ladies activities for next year at our church. It was a beautiful weekend and we sat on the back porch with a wonderful breeze for 4 hours. The grounds were beautiful, the quiet country with only the birds singing was ideal. The house and accommodations were perfect. We all got a great nights sleep and continued our discussion the next morning. We went into Bellville and Brenham for the afternoon and then came back for one last meeting.
Every detail seemed to have been thought of ahead of time so that we lacked for nothing for the three days. THANK YOU! We loved it!
Our weekend at the Bellville Ranch was just perfect! The home was so neat and clean. Everything that we needed was provided - linens, pots, pans and so much more. The atmosphere was perfect for us to spend a weekend with our parents, our daughter/son-in-law, and our first 2-month old grandson. We had so much room to gather and for privacy when it was needed! The grounds around the home were perfectly manicured and beautiful. Again, lots of room to walk, sit by the ponds, gather on the back porch, play horseshoes, Ping-Pong and more! One of our favorite activities was riding the trails on the 90 acres in our ATV - just beautiful! WE LOVED our STAY. Thanks for all of the extra touches to make our weekend PERFECT! We WILL return!!!
We decided to plan a quick getaway before school starts, and we chose this property to rent for the weekend since it was not too far from where we live (The Woodlands). We had such a fun time!!! The property is just beautiful. It really is. Everything is maintained perfectly (the house and the land itself). The house is extremely clean, including the garage which has a ping pong table. My nine-year-old son had a great time rowing on the pond, and we also enjoyed hiking in the back of the property. I can safely say that this is the best place we have ever rented in the Brenham/Round Top area.
