|Minimum Stay||3 - 4 nights|
Our special and spacious five-bed / five-bath ranch-style home is located on five-acres in the estate area of Carmel commonly known as Jacks Peak. Although secluded and quiet, it is conveniently and centrally situated between Carmel and Monterey. You will be just minutes from anywhere on the entire Monterey Peninsula, yet surrounded by majestic oak and pine trees, with a huge yard in which to play.
Built in the 40’s, remodeled in the 60’s and recently updated, this home is perfect for family vacations, corporate retreats, and other special occasions. It is a wonderful place to gather for a family reunion, anniversary or important birthday celebration.
If you are interested please be aware that our property, while centrally located, is surrounded by five-acre estates with neighbors who appreciate this unique natural setting. In consideration of our neighbors, we have limits on the size and nature of parties, loud music or noisy activities (especially outside) and on anything that may disrupt the neighborhood. The property is not a venue for large parties or events.
All five bedrooms have queen beds and each bedroom has its own bathroom with shower. The house sleeps 10 comfortably. There is ample floor space and we have a couple of airbeds and mats to accommodate more, especially children, if needed.
Amenities include a cozy hot tub for two on a large deck off the master bedroom, with a custom-built in-ground hot tub for larger groups just a few steps away. Croquet, basketball, badminton, volleyball, bocce ball and Frisbee equipment are all located on-site and there is plenty room to play. There is a large front lawn that is seasonally green when rain is available. There is also a large brick patio with tables, chairs and fireplace that can be used in the winter. No outside fires are permitted during fire season (generally April - Nov).
Both the large living room and master bedroom have fireplaces. The living room has a vintage piano, two sofas, two club chairs, a corner TV and stereo. The French doors in the living room open onto a welcoming, bright, brick-floor enclosed Lanai with skylights.
The dining room has a table that is made for eight but will easily seat 10. Many a family gathering has led to improvised (yet cramped) seating for up to 14. French doors lead to a large backyard deck, which features a large table with six chairs, a small table with two chairs, a built-in bench and two lounge chairs. There is a five-burner gas grill and two propane heaters.
Off the dining room is a modest fully stocked kitchen with a large work island and windows to the wooded backyard. There is also a kitchen nook (host to many beautiful sunrises), with a small dining table, bench and four chairs.
The four bedrooms on the main floor, the living room, dining room, and hallways all feature oak hardwood floors. The kitchen floor is refinished fir. Area rugs are mostly oriental. Each bedroom has an attached bathroom, with shower.
The daylight downstairs has recently been renovated with new carpet and tile. It features a large, bright bedroom with a built-in desk and views of the garden, a bathroom, small 11 X 13 play area and laundry facilities.

Vacation of a lifetime! We've taken 6 one-week trips together as a family of 12 (kids/grandkids). This was by far the best! Why? Peaceful. Secluded. Near EVERYTHING (as in 10-20 min). Roomy. Rooms all awesome. Teen boys and teen girls loved their rooms. Master bedroom is more like a home in itself. Large TV, enormous bath, view of the trees, deer (all the time!!, about 6 of them, little ones suckling mommy!), step out o jacuzzi (while 6 people can be in the "other" jacuzzi!!), 2 very comfortable chairs. We all had a shower in our rooms. Between the kitchen and dining room, easy to all sit and eat or play games. Living room enormous. Loved the old library, records, historical stuff. Furniture so comfortable, clean, and so durable you don't have to worry about getting anything dirty. So much play room on the floor in the living room. We loved eating on the deck, using the BBQ and had the 2 heaters on one evening. Took about a 15 minute walk in the enormous woods which are on property. Watching woodpecker families play together, feeding bluejays, getting scolded by squirrels, just awesome! Kids 2-19. In one accord: Best vacation ever Papa and Nana! Oh, the owners were totally available nearby, with a quick phone call, but never did we feel like they were around. Plenty of everything you need in the kitchen, including the dishwasher. And, did we love playing ping pong, bocci ball, they have the best frisbee we've ever used, and hitting plastic golf balls in the big yard. Even had clubs there! Eating cherries from the trees, hey, we could go on. Go.
My family gathered here for a late holiday celebration, and it was wonderful! 11 adults and 4 children all had ample space to spread out & be comfortable, the kitchen accommodated big family meals easily and the grounds were a stunning playground for both kids and adults. Close to Monterey and Carmel, we enjoyed low-stress outings with minimal travel time, so we could really enjoy being there. You would never know you're so close to so many things since the house itself feels like a secluded hideaway. Everything was in great shape and the basket of goodies left by the owners was a nice surprise. If we come back to the area, we would definitely love to stay here again and for a longer period of time, so we can really settle in and enjoy everything this home has to offer. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!
This is a wonderfully located home in the hills about equidistant from Carmel and Monterey, about 10 minutes either way. Although the 5 bedrooms are not equal, each has its own advantages and quirks, which kept everyone happy. The kitchen was well stocked; dining room easily accommodated 10; books were plentiful; heaters on the back deck gave us another living space so that everyone really could spread out. We loved hearing the owls at night and watching the deer in the mornings. If we can get our schedules to coincide once again we will be back.
We used this for a family to stay while attending a wedding in the Carmel area. All enjoyed the home and found it to be quiet in a lovely, wooded setting. The back deck allowed for quiet conversations while appreciate nature's beauty. The home is a bit dated but comfortable. Instructions left by the owners seemed a bit excessive yet it is a home (theirs) so to each their own. Otherwise, easy rental with very good communications!
We planned our reunion a year in advance and could hardly wait to go to Jack's Peak Retreat. We actually called David when my husband and I came down to Carmel for my birthday weekend in May of this year and he was nice enough to show us around the home so we could see the layout and how it would work for ourselves, our 4 adult children, spouses and our 5 grandchildren, ages 3 months to 12 years. We asked many questions and David patiently answered them all, as he did when I would email him about items that I couldn't remember if the house included. Our famiy ate all our breakfasts and dinners at home and we enjoyed the very well equipped kitchen and BBQ when we cooked each day. Sometimes we ate on the deck outside the dining room and sometimes we all ate in the diningroom by being able to bring a table in from outside. Never lacked enough room for us all! Thee 4 teens slept in the livingroom on airbeds and each morning before we left the house we stacked them on top of each other, ready to put down again in the evenings. The adults all had their own rooms and baths and we really enjoyed the spacious master suite which looked out to the spacious front yard and hot tub. The preteens played badmitton daily and almost everyone used the hot tubs at some point of the visit. There was a package of ground coffee, some cheese and some crackers waiting for us in the kitchen and some pretty flowers on the dining room table. David told us in advance that he wouldn't be able to be at the house to meet us, but all the keys were on the dining room table as he said and a nice binder which gave us all the information we needed about the house, where the hospital was located and where local restaurants were located. Jacks Peak is very close to Monterey and Carmel and it didn't take us long to get to the Aquarium on Saturday morning, to Carmel forr shopping on Sunday afternoon or to Tarpy's Roadhouse for our lunch reservation and our tour of Lula's Chocolate factory On Monday. On Tuesday morning we were all delighted to see the family of deer that other guests had seen on their stays, too. Jacks Peak was everything it said it would be and gave our family the opportunity to live under one roof with plenty of room for all.
Thank you David and Patti.
We appreciated the warm, homey atmosphere this place provided for our extended family getaway. Our daughter loved the flower garden out back and the open, quiet space was a nice area for the grandparents to walk around.
The kids got to see deer in the morning, which is a treat for them, and the kitchen was well organized which made it easy to cook when we wanted to.
The stone hot tub was relaxing and roomy, and there were plenty of games (eg. ping pong, croquet, board games) that made it convenient to just hang around.
All in all, a comfy, relaxing place to be. We were all quite happy with it!
Our family of 8 adults and 5 children had a wonderful time at this house. It was spacious, nicely furnished and well kept. The kitchen was well equipped. There was plenty of space for visiting around the dining room table, in the living room and on the deck. The older children and adults enjoyed playing badminton, croquet, and bocce ball on the lawn.
The landscaping is pretty and we enjoyed seeing quail come up to the driveway and hearing owls at night. There are lots of Redwoods in the area and there is a walking trail. Also it is pleasant to walk or jog on the roads. Even though you feel that you are secluded, it is just a short drive to Monterrey or to Carmel by the Sea.
The owner was very helpful and willing to answer any questions.
