Nestled in scenic Madison County, Virginia this charming 1939 farmhouse is surrounded by woods and lovely pastoral views. There is a fully stocked pond for fishing as well as a dock for swimming and an outdoor shower. You can have your first cup of coffee sitting in the porch rockers watching the sunrise or end a perfect day in a lovely shaded barbeque area overlooking the pond.
The house has 4 bedrooms and one bath with a spacious living and dining room, full kitchen with dishwasher and breakfast area. One bedroom with a daybed has a library including an extensive video movie collection and a delightful children's corner with games, books, and teddy bears. Two bedrooms have queen beds and another has twin beds. The living room sofa is also a sleeper.
Everything was so comfortable, and the landscape was truly beautiful. We had a great time eating outside and roasting s'mores. The kids had a terrific time romping around outside, and swinging on the tire swing. We will certainly be back
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rockwood. Before even entering the home, we were greeted by the beautiful landscape, including tire swing and pond and acres of lush green land. Upon entering, we were greeted by a nice welcome note from Ann, farm fresh eggs, wine and fresh baked cookies. As we settled in and unpacked, we discovered the comfortable rooms, great library and most surprising, kids play room stocked with toys and a baby gate.
We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful setting to relax and unwind. The kids enjoyed the property and took full advantage of the lake and the swings. Us adults enjoyed relaxing in the homey living room watching movies that were provided. We missed cable initially, but quickly adjusted and just enjoyed each other. From top to bottom, it more than met our expectations and needs.
Ann was a joy to work with and we're looking forward to our next stay!
This house offers a comfortable and relaxed setting in the mountains. We were close to necessities and yet had plenty of privacy to play and enjoy each other. This is a great vacation for families who love the outdoors and a sound sleep at night!
We were looking for a quick escape from DC for the long Memorial Day weekend and we found it at Rockwood Farm. Ann was a very welcoming host and gave us plenty of tips on how to make the most of our stay. The kids loved the fresh baked cookies and we were happy with the farm fresh eggs and wine. We spent 2 relaxing days with a visit to Monticello, s'mores at the fire pit, lounging on the grass reading, fishing in the pond (both kids caught 2 fish each), watching a family friendly movie, and hours on the tire swing. It is a lovely home which is well stocked. We share a bathroom at home so only one bath was not a problem. Beds were so comfortable we slept for 11 hours one night. Easy drive to Montpelier and to Monticello if you want to soak up some colonial history and also easy access to Skyline Drive for hiking and beautiful vistas. We will definitely be back.
This home was exactly what we were looking for...a clean, comfortable home in a beautiful country setting. We were delighted with our warm welcome of cookies, fresh eggs and summer vegetables from the owner's nearby farm. The kids (ages 9,7 and 3) had so much fun fishing, catching fireflies and just running around outside. There was a lot of room for them to wander and explore.
The owners were very helpful with our questions and really thought of everything that guests could possibly need. Linens felt new and clean. We were there during a heat wave (temps >100) but the house was always comfortable and cool. TV reception was poor but there were a lot of DVDs and we never even missed it.
We were really surprised at how much there was to do in the area. We went hiking in Shenandoah, saw beautiful caverns, visited wineries and even stayed an extra day to visit Monticello.
We have stayed at a lot of rental homes but this was definitely a favorite.
The house is charming, nicely decorated, and homey. The grounds are really nice, especially the pond and the view of the pond from the porch. The beds are comfortable. The air is fresh and you can't help but feel relaxed and removed from all the usual distractions.
We stayed here for New Year's Eve weekend and had a wonderful time. Ann had fresh eggs, a bottle of wine and chocolate chip cookies for us upon arrival. The home is lovely, well-maintained and very cozy, with a well-stocked kitchen. The night sky is amazing with very little light pollution. I haven't seen a sky like that in years-what a treat!
Near the Shenandoah National Park; Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison's Montpelier; Civil War Trails and Battle Grounds.
