Northwest Iceland House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 1 full bathrooms, sleeps 6

The charming house was built in 1952 and is about 145m2, where easily can stay up to 6 persons. The place Stykkishólmur is about 2 hour drive from the city Reykjavik, in the south-west. Close to the highlights of Iceland. Stykkishólmur is renowned for its stunning beauty with the perfect frame of mountains, high and low, highlighting the scenery. The most famous of these mountains is the majestic and mystical Snæfellsnes Glacier, towering at the coastal edge. Fantastic variety of bird life. There is a choice of restaurants. The locality also offers a range of exciting recreational activities, swimming, museums, golf, historic buildings and, last but not least, breath-taking scenery. Enjoy the 24 hours of daylight in the summertime. The winter is also fantastic, it´s not bad to relax in the hot tub and watch the northern lights and stars. Stykkishólmur was named EDEN-quality destination in Europe 2011.

Healing Hot Tubs.

The swimming pool in Stykkishólmur is quite recent and contains a lot of options, especially for the kids. There is both an indoor and an outdoor swimming pools, various options of hot tubs and last but not least, one of the biggest water slides in Iceland. In addition, the hot tubs have certificated pure water that comes straight from the borehole.

The water is famed for its healing powers, as it is full of minerals and works well for all sorts of skin problems. The inhabitants of Stykkishólmur, or “hólmarar” like they are called in Icelandic, had always suspected that there was something magical about both their cold and hot water, which was proven to be the case when a German water organization examined the water.

Whether you seek activities, culture, relaxation or even geological enlightenment, you will find it in Stykkishólmur. This picturesque town by the bay has a lot to offer, not only all the services you will need, but also a comfortable location in an interesting region of Iceland.

Why Jóhanna Esjarsdóttir chose Northwest Iceland

We came to Stykkishólm in August 2010 for our first visit. We immediately fell for this beautiful place and we were surprised that we had not been there before, because it is only a two hours drive from Reykjavík, where we live. We had been looking for a summer cottage for a quite time, but after seeing Stykkishólmur we were sure that we wanted to by our a cottages there. There are many reasons why we picked this house. The view from the house over the fjord, and the mountains in the distance is just beautiful. Everything you need is in a 2-7 min. walking distance, like restaurantes, museums, supermarked and swimming pool. We have been renewed the building exterior and the reconstruction will be complete in april 2014.

What makes this house unique

Cosy and quiet. Brief of all services. A lot of beautiful places around Stykkishólm to see. The view from our balcony over Breiðafjörður is amazing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It is very nice and everything we needed was in the house and easy to find. We had 4 days of sunshine and + 8 weather! In April!

Spent lots of time hiking and skiing in the mountains. The house is beautifully decorated.

Stykkisholmur Paradise

This beautiful home in Stykkisholmur was a wonderful place for our Iceland get away. The location was perfect with a view of the fjord, in a quiet neighborhood and was convenient for our tour around Snaefellsnes Pennisula. The house was spotless and exceedingly well cared for. There are personal touches throughout that make it feel like home. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen was fully stocked with whatever dishes that might be needed. We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to return someday soon!

Stykkishólmur is a small town located on the north coast of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Stykkishólmur is renowned for its remarkable nature and has become one of the most popular destinations in Iceland. The diversity of nature is something nature lovers should not miss seeing, its spectacular surroundings, green valleys and rugged lava fields to name a few. In summer, daily sightseeing trips go out in the fjord on the Sæferðir boats, while the ferry Baldur connects Snæfellsnes with the West Fjords with daily sailings to Brjánslækur.

Old houses that have been well preserved have a great influence on the appearance of downtown Stykkishólmur. Snæfellsness Folk Museum is located downtown and is the oldest building in Stykkishólmur, there you can buy souvenirs and handicrafts made by craftspeople from Stykkishólmur or even attend exhibitions put on by Museum or artists.

Library of Water is an interesting museum situated at a place with spectacular view. The museum is a constellation of 24 glass columns containing water collected from ice from some of the major glaciers around Iceland. Snæfellsnes Glacier is located in Breiðafjörður Bay, and is only in 45 min drive away from Stykkishólmur.

The Volcano museum just opened last year and is still expanding its activity. It is open from 11-17 during the summertime and you can get an introductory talk daily from one of Iceland’s finest volcanologist, Haraldur Sigurðsson.

Right now a new exhibition has just opened in the Volcano museum, which obviously has the theme: Eyjafjallajökull. There are many photographs of both the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull and its consequences as well as of the minor eruption on Fimmvörðuháls. In this exhibition you can see photos from one of Iceland’s most renown photographer RAX, or Ragnar Axelsson, who has dedicated his career as a photographer to the nature of Iceland.
