Photos and Description of the Kapoho vacation house rental
Studio with queenbed and full bath sleeps 2

This unique paradise retreat for 2 is located in Vacationland on the Hilo side of the Big Island. Located only a few minutes’ walk to the Wai Opae tide pools, this romantic property features a private pond with its own 10 foot high waterfall. The average lot in Vacationland is a little over 8000sq ft. but this property is on 3 lots and backs up to 300 acres of undeveloped land offering a peaceful, quiet and private surroundings. Set in a secluded tropical garden setting you may pick apple bananas, mangoes, papaya and coconuts when in season.

This pristine and charming house has been decorated with vintage Hawaiian pieces that have been collected over many years. The house has a complete kitchen that was remodeled in 2011. There is a full bathroom upstairs and an outdoor shower downstairs. The studio opens on to a private lanai that was newly redecorated earlier this year. There is satellite TV and a phone for on island calls. This is a 2 story house but the downstairs is used for storage and is not connected with the upstairs.

This area has many beautiful warm ponds. Depending on the tides the water level will vary in all of these ponds including the pond on the property. There is a very large warm public pond at Ahalanui Park approximately 1 mile down the Red Road (HWY 137) that you can swim in at all tide levels.

We had such a wonderful experience in the waterfall cottage. The decoration inside and the landscaping are so artistic and thoughtful. You can find anything in there and some things are really beyound your imagination. This place is not ocean front but the ocean is steps away. The sound of the ocean during the night sometimes can be deafening, especially to new commers. I had some problem with it but it is all OK. Til, who lives next door (mitzi's friend) helped us get off a giant coconut from the tree in the yard and opened it. The juice was super sweet. We love this place so much and it gave us the best memory in our trip.

A delightful place we'll return to

A delightful place we'll return to

We have been coming to the Big Island for 11 years, and we like to stay near windward-side snorkeling pools 35 minutes south of Hilo. We have rented at least half a dozen houses in this area, but this is one of our two all-time favorite Hawaiian rentals for several reasons:
1. This house is just a short walk to the water with its excellent snorkeling.
2. The house itself is very clean and beautifully decorated with super cool Hawaiiana, not the kitsch stuff you see in many other places. There are also at least six-to-ten permanent gecko residents inside and out, which is considered good luck.
3. It has all the kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom accoutrements you would want, including a large and very comfortable firm bed.
4. The large, nicely landscaped yard has numerous palms of many kinds as well as its own pool with small fish if you don’t feel like walking the two-hundred yards to the ocean. Consequently, it is great to just sit on the lanai or by the pool and be surrounded by beauty.
5. The outside, private shower is very useful for post-swimming/snorkeling.
6. The property manager lives next door (the owners live on the mainland) and is charming and helpful.
The only minor reservation (and it does not diminish our 5-star rating one bit) is that you need to sit in the patio at the house next door (owned by the same family) to get WiFi. This house is on a waiting list to get it installed.

So, we highly recommend this house to any couple looking for a delightful respite from crowded, noisy (well, there are coqui frogs at night), urban "civilization" or from other Hawaiian locations too dense with malihini (tourists) and ABC stores.

Loved, loved, loved the Waterfall Cottage!

We just returned from our (too short) stay at the Waterfall Cottage. The pictures do not do the cottage or the grounds justice. The house was very clean and included everything we needed for a quiet, relaxing few days. We stayed on the Kona side of the island for 10 days before arriving in Kapoho, and wished we would have had more time to spend in this beautiful place. We absolutely loved the outdoor shower - what a treat! I have already recommended the place to many family and friends. The property manager next door is very accessible, but not intrusive - the cottage is very private.

Simply put, we arrived to a beautiful home with tea and coffee samples displayed for us and frosted glasses in the freezer. I loved the grounds, the pool and the vintage items in the house. The lanai is outstanding and comfortable.

I would recommend this to all my friends!

Week in Pahoa

We came to de-stress and unwind. Perfect for us in every way. The house is very inviting, appointed with everything you could possibly need, decorated with very nice personal touches and immaculately clean. Located in a great location just a quick 2 minute stroll to a rocky cove that is one of the best places we have ever snorkeled at. The grounds are wonderfully private and quiet, just beautiful. Nice quiet neighborhood where everyone seems happy to wave out for a walk. There is minimal traffic and no noise beside the serenade of frogs, the breeze through the palms and the distant ocean waves. Crazy rain nearly the entire week we were there but such a wonderful place to stay made it all ok.
The funky little town of Pahoa was just a 10 minute drive. Quiet and low key. We enjoyed the Farmers Market just north of Pahoa that was on Sunday. Stocked up on lots of local fruits, veggies, and yummies. Great natural foods grocery store in town and good coffee at Sirrus. Visited the Volcano park and loved the 10 mile drive from the property that goes south towards Kalapani. A lot to take in along that stretch, beaches and stops. Walked way out toward the lava flow along the coast. Beautiful. Went for runs through the quiet neighborhood every day and explored out by the lighthouse. Some neat burial sites close by that are unmarked. We have snorkeled quite a few places and truly the cove just a block away was wonderful. Coral, tons of fish, a big old turtle that hangs out. The water is calm and a little warmer than the open ocean.
If there would be any suggestion for improvement ? Perhaps a more comfortable futon couch would be our only suggestion. Otherwise just can't be improved upon.
