LAHARANDOTA - The Artists' Cottage, an old stone farmhouse recently owned by retired American painter Frank Russell, now fully renovated to include slate floors, old beams and stone walls. Set in over an acre of land and surrounded by fields with extensive views over the sea and the Mizen Head. Ideal for those looking for a relaxing holiday or weekend retreat, for walkers/cyclists or families, with its large garden, spring, pond and small outdoor pool (solar heated). Located 4 miles west of local village Kilcrohane, and a scenic half-hour drive from the busy market town of Bantry with its great restaurants and pubs. Stroll down the lane from the cottage directly on to The Sheep's Head Way, one of Ireland's 31 Waymarked Ways (marked trails). The peninsula's natural wild beauty makes its 55 mile trail stand out from others and offers an exciting challenge for all keen walkers. We have recently renovated the old barn adjacent to the Cottage to form the Studio, additional self-contained accommodation for up to 4 extra guests. The Studio includes the following features: - Small, fully-equipped kitchen (open plan to living area) - Living area with vintage wood burning stove & sea view - Studio/sun room with windows on two sides and patio doors leading to pool area - Twin iron guest/daybed with ensuite shower room (studio/sun room) - Double bedroom with king bed, sea views and ensuite shower room (1st floor).

Laharandota is located on the southern side of the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, about 4 miles south west of the village of Kilcrohane and 15 miles from the bustling market town of Bantry, West Cork. The propoerty is ideally located for touring the West Cork area, for walking, cycling or sailing with it's many walking routes, scenic drives, coves and bays. West Cork attractions include Garinish Island and Glengariff, the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head, as well as the town of Bantry, with its many shops, great restaurants, bars and cinema. The area is also well known for its raw natural beauty, attracting walkers, artists and anyone with a love for the outdoors to the area. Within a short drive from the property is the village of Kilcrohane, with its quay and coves for bathing, two pubs, shop and local church as well as the Sheep's Head Lighthouse and Way, which passes directly behind and in front of the cottage's gardens.

  • Prices include use of shared outdoor pool from April to October, for use by Cottage and Studio guests. Rental fees also include VAT, energy (oil, electricity and small supply of logs for the open fire/stoves), bed linen and towels.

Notes: The Studio has electric storage heaters throughout, as well as a vintage stove with open fire facility in the lounge area. A washing machine, dryer and freezer are located in the garage, shared between cottage and studio guests. The outdoor pool is located in the garden area in front of the studio, which also includes a stream and pond to the side of the Sun Room. Access to the pool is open to both Cottage and Studio guests from April to October, with partial heating provided by solar panels (subject to sunny weather!).

Pleasure in Paradise: Sheeps Head

We had a fantastic time, relaxing and unwinding on what has to be one of Ireland’s most beautiful locations, The Sheep's Head. The Artists’ Studio where we stayed was beautifully and tastefully furnished, and went beyond the comforts and taste of the typical holiday rental. We just visited in September, and were lucky to have sensational weather every day, sunsets were enjoyed most nights overlooking the Mizen Head. The peninsula itself is easy to get around with lots of walks, hidden beaches and piers, and great pubs, in addition our new favourite restaurant ever close to the cottage 'The Good Things Café' (something no-one should miss, if you’re lucky enough to catch it in season!). We definitely will go back to the cottage; it’s nice to leave the bustle of London and revisit a part of Ireland that is relatively untouched, a simple, relaxing way of life, which we were privileged to enjoy for a week (and who knew that Cork now has a great airport, so it’s simple to catch a flight from London and be there in no time).
